I have two young children and a ragdoll cat seemed like the perfect fit for our family. Knowing that a reputable breeder is key when it comes to that desired ragdoll personality, I spent several days researching reputable breeders in the Northern California area. I contacted TICA and CFA directly asking for their recommendations. Mary Riddell's name came up consistently as one of the best breeders in the area. I contacted Mary in late August 2020 asking for more information. I knew there was going to be a long waiting list as all reputable breeders are swamped. Mary was very nice on the phone, not snobbish or rude at all, and answered all my questions. I was so lucky with my timing as Mary told me she actually had two kittens available, a boy and a girl! She sent me photos of the most adorable kittens ever. It was so hard to pick, but we decided on the little girl. We had to wait a month before picking up our baby as she was only 8-9 weeks old at the time I contacted Mary. During that waiting period, Mary answered all my emails about what kind of foods, supplies, and grooming brushes to get. It was so hard to wait, but we knew it was best for kittens to be with their mommas and siblings until 12-14 weeks. All reputable breeders do not send home their kittens until at least 12 weeks. We finally got to pick up our little girl last Saturday and she is absolutely adorable. The most incredible blue eyes and softest fur imaginable. There was a few days of adjustment (as is expected with any kittens), but she adjusted pretty quickly. We got her to a vet on Monday and she is very healthy. She is such a wonderful addition to our family. She is super playful, running around the house, exploring things, but then she is also very cuddly and loves to curl up next to us in the sofa and be petted for hours on end. I brought home a pair of kittens in November/December 2019. Mary was the first breeder I contacted, and will be the first breeder I talk to in the future. She was extremely friendly and easy to talk to, and goes above and beyond for all her kittens. If you want to work with a reputable breeder, then look no further than Fur Real Ragdolls! I have two beautiful mitted seal point ragdolls. I do not understand why Private P has such a negative review. First of all, I had a Himalayan for 20 years prior to getting my Fur Real Ragdoll cats and she had an obsession with anything plastic, including scotch tape; however, she was nowhere near special needs. It is called baby proofing your home, yes even for a cat. Kittens/cats are like toddlers, if they are left alone they will get into everything. I had a playpen for my little darling to play in just so I would know where she was and what she was playing with at all times. Mary is a wonderful breeder to work with. She has knowledge galore with these precious animals and loves them dearly. Mary NEVER asks for payment in full prior to getting the kitten and/or retired cat. You are given a contract, everything is laid out in plain language and it clearly states that you put a deposit down and balance is due when you pick-up your fur baby. Also in the contract was a provision that you have 7 days to take your cat or kitten to your veterinarian to be checked, and if there is a problem then you could return the cat for a refund or another cat. If anyone has a question or a concern about a kitten or cat they have gotten from Mary, all they have to do is reach out to her and she is more than happy to answer any questions and give suggestions. I had a problem with my little one gobbling her food and Mary give me suggestions on how to break her of this habit. I have called when I have a question or concern about what brand of food to feed my girls, Mary always gets back to me with great suggestions. I too had to wait a little longer for my little girl, but it was for the kitten's own safety because she could not be spayed until she weighed over 2 pounds. Now that my little girl is 3 years old she is very socialized and greets everyone when they enter the home. A little while after getting my little girl, I also got her mother as Mary had retired her and she was up for adoption. Both of these beautiful ladies are the most pleasant loveable cats I have ever seen. They have times (just like humans) when they do not like to be held and want their own space, but this is normal. The procedure for them to get their cats was the same as it was for me... contract and only payment in full when the cat was picked up. I've never purchased a kitten from a breeder before, but after loosing my 15-year-old kitty to heart disease and not being able to find a local long-haired kitten to adopt, I called Mary at Furreal Ragdolls. I got my girl from these guys around 2016. While she is the sweetest thing, it turns out she had a broken hip sometime when she was a young kitten, likely before I got her. They say this can happen when you spay kittens when they are too young. Indeed, knowing they spay so early was one thing I was not okay with before getting her, but it was part of the package. Sure enough, at 4 years old she was already having severe hip trouble on one side, and doctors found that she had old fractures that improperly healed and damaged her hip.. she had to have a hugely expensive surgical procedure called a femoral head osectomy. Thankfully amazing doctors helped her, but I am in debt because of it. I don't think they should be neutering their kittens so young, nor should they lie about the health of the kittens to make a sale. My girl also has joint laxity issues that hopefully don't affect her later in life. Only giving two stars because my girl's temperament is perfect and she's smart. After getting my hopes up about a darling kitten, the owner texted me saying that she could not sell me the kitten because they are "indoor cats." I understand that these cats are costly, docile, and susceptible to kidnaping if left to roam outside. I did my research. I was going to get the cat a gps collar, get a tracker inserted by a vet, and train it from the time it was very little to walk on a leash. I have owned cats my entire life. I treat them like royalty, but if I own a cat, I will not keep it cooped up in a house for its entire life like a prisoner! Walking it on a leash is nothing. In fact it would live a happier, more fulfilled life. She seemed very busy, and made it clear that she didn't have time for me. Not only that, but she texted me with horrible grammar, and a lot of the time they weren't even full sentences! She was very unprofessional, and responded late. I got my Ragdoll cat Bailey from Mary in May 2019. I had never owned a ragdoll cat before and I was VERY excited about finally owning one. From the beginning Mary was very helpful. She patiently answered ALL of my questions before and after owning Bailey. In June, we almost lost our sweet Bailey. One morning I noticed right away that something was no right so I took him to my local vet and he was diagnosed with abdominal obstruction, but no object was seen. His intestine had become tangled inside and needed surgery right away but the vet said since he was still a kitten he could not guarantee Bailey would make it through the surgery, plus, the surgery was WAY beyond what I could pay. I was devastated! While I was at the vet I called Mary and asked her for an advice if this had ever happened to anyone else and if it was true that my Bailey had chances of not making it through the surgery. She told me to ask what kind of anesthesia would be used by my vet, she told me "if they are using _____ (i forgot the name of the anesthesia) don't let him have surgery there! That anesthesia is not for kittens and CAN kill Bailey". I immediately asked the receptionist for the name of the anesthesia they would be using and turned out it WAS indeed the one that would most likely kill him! No wonder they told me he had a 50/50 chance of survival. When I told Mary she said "if you want to save him bring him to my vet, she will save him." Without thinking twice I drove over and hour and Bailey had surgery that same day. Plus, the estimate for the cost of the surgery was way lower than what my local vet had estimated. Mary was very kind and supportive the whole time. After Bailey had his surgery he had to stay in the hospital for a few days so I had to come back home. But Mary offered to check on Bailey during his stay at the vet. Bailey had a full recovery, thanks to Mary he is alive. Mary is an amazing person with LOTS of knowledge about these beautiful cats. What I got from Furreal Ragdolls were two "special needs" cats. I've never lived without a cat, and decided to buy a boy and girl Ragdoll, because of their reputation for sweet dispositions and of course their beauty. Furreal was the closest breeder to where I live and had good reviews, so I called Mary. She seemed very nice and told me that I "...could get the pick of the litter.." if I were to pay in full in advance, and that's what I did. I was later to find out that other clients were promised the same thing. Mary has her act down cold. I was impressed with Mary's awards, friendliness and seeming professionalism, but I was wrong. Soon she was trying to talk me into taking two males instead of a girl and a boy. This really irritated me. Much too much catosterone! I was later to find out when I came to pick out my girl kitten that Mary had also promised other clients they'd get "the pick of the litter" if they paid in advance. Not professional -- just crudely manipulative. Mary said that I couldn't get my cat(s) until they were 16 weeks old because that was when they should be spayed. That turned out not to be true -- the reason I had to give up the cutest time with my new kitties was because Mary had to be sure I wouldn't breed them, which I certainly didn't, because that costs more. I resent this most of all. Mary called me when it was time to pick out my boy kitten, and it was fun. There was a room full of the most gorgeous cats I'd ever seen. Finally I got my little boy, who is SO gorgeous, but runs under the bed if a strange car drives by, let alone if a new person comes into the house, and hates being held. Also, he has PICA, which means he eats non-food items. He craves plastic and I have to constantly be sure to put all plastic bags and wrappings in a secure place and can't trust anyone else to take care of him because he's sneaky and could die from this weird obsession. He also likes to chew leather shoes. But he loves me and has some adorable traits and I love him dearly. Still, I did NOT pay for special needs cats, and continue to resent the way this was handled. My little girl, Precious, was ready a few months later, and she is the most beautiful and sweetest animal ever. When Mary met me to give her to me, said that Precious "...has a little cold," and said to give her Doxycycline, which is NOT for "little colds." I soon found out that Precious has asthma, and it took $400 in tests to find out that she also has a rare and permanent upper-respiratory infection for which there is no cure, as the only antibiotic for it nearly killed her. So I wipe her beautiful blue eyes all the time and give her asthma treatments every day, and put my shoes on shelves my boy kitty can't reach, and wonder what life would have been like if I had chosen a different breeder. read more

Mary is amazing. We were looking for a ragdoll with a very sweet and cuddly temperament, and Mary matched us up with the perfect kitten. When we first talked to Mary and described the kind of personality we were looking for she very honestly said that her current litter was too young to call the personalities of the kittens yet. I really appreciated that. Mary kept an eye on the kittens and contacted us when they were a little bit older and said that one little kitten was super sweet and she thought she would be exactly what we were looking for. Our kitten is beyond amazing. The sweetest, most snuggly and affectionate cat I've ever met. She is gentle and calm, even with children running around the house. Mary was great through the entire process, sending us pictures of our kitten, giving us updates when the kitten was spayed, and even delivering our kitten to us because she happened to be coming to our area for a cat show. Also, our kitten is healthy. I've taken her to the vet and she's in perfect health. When talking to Mary it's obvious that she really cares about her kittens. She even sends them home with a little gift bag of toys they love and food they're currently eating. read more
