I love the fact they carry toys, games, and books across many genres so there's weird and unusual items to browse and buy. They have frequent events and sales, plus they move items out through a clearance bin that always has something interesting. What I love most about the place is how outgoing it is. Customers talking fandom with the staff, sharing experiences and opinions (sometimes they have a "NO SPOILERS" sign up when a big movie comes out) makes this more than a shop. It's like a community center for the region's nerd herd.

As it turned out, the name actually comes from "second-hand" (as in buybacks and trade-ins), and the first name of its founder, Charles Anderson. The chain has 40 locations across 18 states and is owned by its parent company, Book-A-Million, which was founded by Charles father, Clyde. It's bitter sweet that it moved from the now-dismantled Harrisburg East Mall to its current location. The business survived, but I like the old setting better, where it was part of a shopping mall and you could just stroll into the store during a general window-shopping trip. The new location is standalone, right across from the county courthouse (are the prisons still there?), where Toys "R" Us used to be. It has to be a dedicated trip. The new store is much larger, however. It has all kinds of books, including rare titles and collectibles. There are also gifts, CDs, musical instruments, and even LEGO bricks sold by weight. Heck, they even buy back old LEGO sets! Jumping on the "blind box" bandwagon, they now sell "Mystery Boxes" as well. It's a fantastic spot to treasure-hunt and/or sell items from your weekend clean-outs. It's great to see a unique business like this continue to thrive.

A huge store located in the former Toys R Us, with a tremendous selection of kids' books, records, and toys across all categories. There's even a free Mother's Day card creation event this Saturday for children. Plenty of staff around to answer questions. I need to bring in my husband's barely used hardcover books for reselling. Living in this digital age, it's great to see 2nd & Charles thriving. If you want new or get a great value with slightly used books, try the 2nd & Charles bookstore for a curated book experience. It's been in Highspire for a couple of years, but I did have a chance to stop in. The familiar logo and green paint stand out on Main Street. The decorative windows are the brightest part of that block of older buildings. The interior is well-organized on two floors and packed with collectibles, toys, comics, and related merchandise. Most of the current and recent backlist comics and books are priced, but you may have to ask for a market price on some unticketed items. But the staff is helpful. The store is easy to reach from Middletown, Harrisburg, and just off the Harrisburg junction of 283 and the Harrisburg East exit of the PA Turnpike

Honestly, I am not sure how this place is still around after so many years, but it is still there and I still love dropping in when I am back in town. The shop specializes in monthly subscriptions so you can easily add yourself to a list to get the next drop each month or you can browse for something new. He carries some back issues for popular titles and if you can't find what you are looking for, he will try and order it for you. I stop in for the expertise and recommendations though. When I am looking for something new, the owner can give me a good deal of titles to try. His last recommendation for me was Y The Last Man and I loved it! If you are heading to the coffee shop across the street, stop in, pick up something new or the latest release of your favorites and enjoy with your favorite coffee drink. It's locals and guests to the area that will keep this place alive against the big box stores!

Excellent selection of new pull comics, which at some shops these days is hard to find. Back of the store is mostly comprised of longboxes on tables, with a large selection. Better longboxes are on the tables with some budget longboxes located on the floor. The good selection of toys and collectables just makes Comics World even more well-rounded. This might be the best kept secret in the southern Pennsylvania comic book shop scene and I would absolutely return here.

This is one of the nicest comic/action figure/misc stores I have ever seen. Layouts were clear and grouped by interest. Displays were carefully designed with the collector in mind. The amount of stock is great, especially back issues. I saw something I've never seen before - ECs from the 50s!! One area that I am still collecting. Most stores only carry the later reprints. Nice, but none that I need at the time. There are separate displays for comics, magazines, action figures, sals items, suggested reading, and a nice area just for kids with a great selection. The manager was helpful,and very knowledgeable, and we had great conversations. There are multiple areas marked for sales prices, including several boxes of low priced comics and magazines. And especially of note: I read recently of the difficulty of finding new packs of Pokemon cards. Some dealers were charging $9 to $13 for the new packs, due to shortages. Comic Store West has them for $6, with a limited amount you can buy. That alone tells me a lot about caring and watching out for the consumer. If you are in the York area looking for comics, this should definitely be your first stop! Highly recommended.

There are lots of comics to browse through, but mostly 1980s and up. There are some older stock, several with certified grade and encapsulated in archival plastic cases. Laid out fairly well so browsing through the shop is easy. There is a lot to see in a small shop. If you are into collectibles, check it out.
