This place is absolutely one of the best places to get a sour or saison. Their beer the Ode Bruin is probably the best sour beer out there and is worth the $20 for a bomber and then some. They have soo many wonderful beers, you can't not find something if you're a beer fan. read more

Funkwerks - One of everything on that menu - Breweries Near Me - Fort Collins, Colorado

Dark Prophet. If you can get it..get it! I really like Funkwerks unique beer selections. They are also very generous on their taster pours. Pretty much every brewery in Ft Co does a great job at being unique. Do a brewery crawl.. its a great time! (Just make sure to have a DD). Its a smaller taproom, but still nice. They also have a outdoor patio and yard. Fun spot to play with other peoples dog's or one of the yard games. read more

The beer has gotten better The staff has gotten better The food exists a bit, which is better This place has gotten better. I have always liked Funkwerks, and I have really liked what they were trying to do. I am not going to lie, there have been some rough beers along the way in the growing process, but I really like what they are doing now. Their Oud Bruin is pretty #(*$& good. I have had a barrel aged quad I feel the same about. In a world of great breweries, this is one that you should check out. Keep on improving!!!! read more

Go Belgian Brews! What an awesome addition to a microbrewery town like Fort Collins, CO. I almost took one star away due to a cold experience we had with the female server but the beers are so good here that I decided to give it back. This place is known for their incredible Saisons but all of their beers are smooth and extremely drinkable. I highly recommend their flight of 5 beers. Then venture over to some others that are not on the flight and try them next. They are all really outstanding! Funkwerks provides take home beers for nearly their whole line in one-pint capped bottles. This place is a must try but good parking is limited and this smaller square footage building gets busy quick with locals. read more

Funkwerks - Front door to small tap room. - Breweries Near Me - Fort Collins, Colorado

If everyone were exactly the same, the world would be a boring place to live. The same principles apply to the breweries in Fort Collins. We have so many of them, that if they were all the same, Fort Collins wouldn't be the beer mecca that it is. Each brewery adds a different flavor and zing to our community palette in their very own unique ways. Funkwerks is no different, or rather, the most different - depending on how you look at it. Funkwerks is one of the newer breweries to join the cluster that we have in the beermuda triangle. Owners Gordon Schuck and Brad Lincoln moved into the old Fort Collins Brewery location on Lincoln Avenue in December of 2010, brewing in a specialized niche of organic Saisons - which are lighter Belgian-style ales. In a time where we see most breweries going in the direction of super hoppy and bitter flavors, catering to more of an IPA-loving trend, Funkwerks saisons are spicy and a bit sour. Typically, saison beers are light to medium bodied with notes of citrus or spice. Lighter in alcohol (but not always), they have refreshing characteristics that make them a fantastic drinking option in the summer. If I had all of the free time in the world, I'd be at Funkwerks on the reg drinking the Wild Apricot ale on their patio. It is completely different and delicious (sadly, it's only a seasonal!). I'm thrilled that while living in beer-friendly Fort Collins, not every brewery is the same, and we have incredible niche breweries like Funkwerks serving us up some fun and funky brews. read more

I love Funkwerks beer whenever I can get it here in Denver, so this was my mecca when we did our bike tour of breweries in Fort Collins. If you're on a bike, start here, because it's pretty much the furthest one out on Lincoln Avenue, then you can lurch back toward town hitting other, bigger ones, like Fort Collins Brewery, Odells, and New Belgium. I had the Saison, The Man had some single-yeast Saison which was clear and bright and lovely. The set-up is nice, outdoor seating under trees, although we didn't want to go too far from where the beer came out of the wall. *hiccup* They also had a cool "infusion" system for their saison, two flavors; I had the lemon basil/pink peppercorn one. Now, the herbs are not used in the brewing process, but the beer is sort of pushed through them between the keg and the tap. So the flavors are very light and fresh. It's the only time I've seen this done and I think it is brilliant. As an aside, we were there on Saturday August 2, and the food cart outside was some young cool cat. At first I thought, "oh it's just burgers, but I'm super hungry so, whateves." Then I read the menu. If you ever see this kid and he's rocking the three-pork sandwich (pulled pork, ham, bacon jam on a brioche bun with smoked gouda, I think?) you really REALLY need to get one. Best thing I ate the whole time we were in F.C. The buffalo corned beef rueben was pretty spot on too. But that bacon jam.. WTF? So good!!!! read more

Awesome little tap room, its small intimate and the best part, you can buy Funkwerks beer here, for WAY less than you'll find them in liquor stores. Wile this brewery is a bit 'off the beaten path' it's worth going out of your way to find it. This brewery mainly focuses on creating Belgian sasion beers, which are beers from the french speaking (eastern half) of Belgium. I did a beer tour of Belgium, especially in the french half of the country and the beers here are really quite authentic. Sasions feature a really unique texture and slightly sour profile. The texture i would most liken to champagne, its very light a bubbly. I'm a bit of a craft beer nut this place is awesome. I did a flight and i'll be back to try the few i didn't have. For the most part every beer i had from them is awesome, and can easily fit any mood your in. The sasion variations are great, nice and light. They have a trippel also called 'alchemy' which i haven't had yet, but I'm a major fan of strong ales so i'm sure its great. The beer you MUST TRY when you come here is the 'Dark Prophet', its a dark mahogany saison. The end result is a beer with a almost bourbon like flavor and saison lightness. The Bourbon flavor however lacks the harshness of whiskey, but has the rich oak barrel flavor. Its like high end scotch where you only really taste the wood, only you get beery fizz and lightness with the rich wood flavor. It's really just fantastic. read more

Beer: Excellent, crisp, fruity. Reasonably priced 4.50 a glass and 3.00 for a 1/2 glass. Start with the delicious flight! Very unique considering the tons of breweries around. No food, small snacks for sale. Location: Small but quaint tasting room fits about 20 people packed, cozy, cute art and bright colors with about 4 pub tables and 6-8 bar stools by the tap. Vibe: Gal pouring beer was super nice, and explained the beers. Few folks at tables chatting, but very laid back. Overall: DO IT! We left with 2 growlers one of Maori King and a White, and will be back soon. It is worth the drive from Westminster. And really who's not up to try a key lime pie rye on a hot summer day? read more

GREAT drinks! GREAT service; friendly, right there when your drink gets low! Easy going atmosphere. AND it's so close to home! I just found my new fave brewery!! I almost don't want to post this review for fear too many people will check it out and then fall in love with it and it will become packed and won't have a seat avail for me lol! BUT...they absolutely deserve an awesome review for being so awesome on every level! read more

Glad I finally got to visit this place and they make some wonderfully, and the secret is in he name, funky beers. I wouldn't say the wait person there was especially friendly but she was professional and their beer samplings come in full size tulip glasses so you can experience their Saisons at their best. You can also get a side of cheese and crackers and the cheeses, at least the one we had, is from a local cheesemaker in the area, and I think the crackers were also probably locally made. As a home brewer I like seeing people pushing the envelope in he beer styles and the place sort of reminds me of Crooked Stave, down in Denver, that did (and I assume still does) a lot of wild beer styles. read more

Funkwerks - The taps! - Breweries Near Me - Fort Collins, Colorado

This is not your typical brewery. And it's not named funkwerks for no reason either. The choices are eclectic and they have one of the best sour beer collection I have seen. If you have never tried sour beer, you must! If you are a fan of fruity beers and tart flavors in general, you will love sour beer. I got the funkwerks flight which comes with 5 different beers which includes the raspberry beer. It's one of the best sour beers I have ever had and I would have bought another full size of it if I hadn't already been drinking all day. There isn't much seating in the front of the brewery but there are more communal bench seating in the back past the bathrooms. That area is also more quiet if you want to just talk in a peaceful seating. Funkwerks also sells T-shirts which are very soft and have some cool designs. I will definitely come back if I am in the FoCo region. read more

Funkwerks - Flight! - Breweries Near Me - Fort Collins, Colorado

I am a hugeeee sour beer fan, and Funkwerks reigns SUPREME for fruity, sour beers. It really is kind of off the beaten path, but I am so glad we stumbled across this place! My favorite was the pineapple, but there were so many other great beers to choose from that you really can't go wrong. If you are in the area, Funkwerks can not be missed! read more

Wow. The bar has been raised. This brewery has a narrow focus on Belgian-style brews, but when it comes to Belgian's they hit the ball out of the park. They demonstrate the richness and variety to the Belgian style. Tropic King and Saison are both fantastic. Dark Prophet is unique and warm. I wasn't excited about their selection on the flight, but it was a great tour through some different styles. I enjoyed trying every one. The 2013 Fort Collins Collaboration was a real pleasure. As with a number of the Front Range breweries, there is no food, but at least they are open a little later than some of the other breweries in the area. read more

Located in the former location of Fort Collins Brewery and right down the street from both Fort Collins' new location and Odell, this place has become one of my favorite Fort Collins breweries. It helps that I'm a fan of their Belgian-style saison and wit-heavy lineup. As it's the same location, the setup of the tasting room is similar to Fort Collins when it was there, but the decor is a little more earthy and organic, less industrial and it certainly fits the beer style. Funkwerks brews saisons, so you get a collection of fruitier, spicier beers that most likely will be popular with any fans of New Belgium, also not far away. Our bartender/server was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable of the types of beers served, what goes into them, and even just what it is "Funkwerks" means. I tend to go on weekdays, so I avoid the giant crowds that the weekends undoubtedly get. Either way, the tap room is a nice place to relax with its high tables and natural lighting. The outside patio is great, with plenty of space to spread out and even a few lawn games. It's all less built up than some other breweries in town, and I think that's a major part of its charm. read more

Funkwerks is, in a lot of ways, exactly what my own brewery/tap room would be like if I ever get to open one. I've had their brews before, but for some reason never visited their home in FoCo until I was up for a weekend. We got there right at opening, noon on a Saturday. The tap room itself is very cozy-basic, but still roomy, with great music playing. They have menus that are very thorough about the beers on the tap, and the very friendly bartender also let us know to ask her any questions we had. We ordered their flight sampler, and decided to take it outside since it was a beautiful sunny afternoon. Just outside is a great porch, with high tables, and some big shady trees if you wanna take a break from the sun. Just beyond that is a really nice lawn, with some beer garden-style picnic benches and some corn hole boards. It also looked like the "backyard" is pooch friendly, though I can't be sure. The beers were the icing on the cake-they were very unique, and very, very tasty. One of them was made with some jasmine teas, which gave it a smooth finish that was also super refreshing. I loved every beer on the flight-which is usually a rarity for me! Excellently done all around Funkwerks! I can't wait to visit again! read more

Recently went here for the first time very very good beer cool atmosphere. The free pretzels at the bar was a nice touch and the staff was extremely friendly. . . They also allow behaved dogs on a leash. It's kinda small I could see it filling up quick if it's a popular time of week. I suggest getting there early and staying late. Or filling up a growler to go so theres room for other people to sit at tables Thanks for a great experience Funkwerks. Cheers!! read more

I often times find myself drawn to these specialty breweries like Funkwerks. As if beer alone isn't good enough, Funkwerks makes is better. I really enjoyed everything I tried but the King, the Citrus Polaris and Deceit stood out to me. King because of its fruit undertone and high ABV, not a combination I'm use to seeing. The Citrus Polaris has a clean and easy to drink feel to it. A slightly different take on the single hop Polaris. Deceit, well because of the name. It drinks like water but is 9.4% ... it will sneak up on you if you're not paying attention. Actually I think it will sneak up on you even if you're paying attention, it's that deceitful. The prices are pretty reasonable too, especially considering the ABV on some of them is pretty high. The $9 flight is a good bang for your buck and gives you a good idea of the variety of beers they produce. Check this place out if you're in the Fort Collins area and in need of some good beer. read more

Funkwerks is so damn funky and now they are some of my favorite beers in Colorado, a nice tasting room and cool people. If you like beers more on the funky side, this is a necessary destination. Lots of Belgian/sour/funk here. My favorite was the Oud Bruin and the Tropic King. read more

Funkwerks is nothing short of amazing. What looks like a simple little brewery on the side of the road might be one of the best beer experiences in the entire United States. With an array of beers that might not be fair to categorize as anything other than "experimental," they will truly give your taste buds a ride. Known for their funkier-flavored beers, they have mastered the art of farmhouse-style ales like few have been able to do. Their implementation of gin-barreling and wort-cooling methods are down to a science, which creates a beer that is unbelievably memorable yet leaves you craving more. Their quaint little tasting room is coupled by a simple outdoor area with decor as funky as their beers. The constant traffic of regulars coming through for "6ers" and growlers gives off the feeling that they are not hurting for business but still offers an aura of homelike comfort. But, if for nothing else, come for the beer. Their beer tells a story, and it's one that everyone should hear. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to check out Funkwerks on a whim while taking a drive to look at fall foliage. We had tried their beer at the Gnarly Barley festival and both really loved it (in fact, we voted for them as our favorite!). They are located in the old Fort Collins Brewery location, so its in a nice location and easy to get to. The beer was excellent. I particularly liked the Motif, which I was told was a pro-am concoction which means when its gone, its gone! That gave me a sad face. The service was uber-friendly and they were all excited because they had just found out they won a medal at GABF - a HUGE accomplishment for such a young brewing company. Not much else to say - great beer, friendly faces, good location. Check it out! read more

Small funky brewery with a backyard like patio. Corn hole with saison flight, uh-huh!

Super fun stop on the Ft. Fun Brewery tour. Really unique Sauvin Reserve makes you ask "is this white wine or beer?" Also enjoyed the Raspberry Provincial! Cool people at the bar and behind the bar, but it's Fort Collins so you should expect Drove up from Denver again to fill 3 growlers from our favorite Ft Collins Brewery and well they don't full growlers‍. Only time I've ever encountered this, total bummer, knocked a star off, wasted trip! read more

This is a nice, funky little taproom. It's off the beaten path, small, but has a great patio. They serve snacks and all the beers are Saisons. This is why the place gets 3 stars because I'm not a fan of Saisons, although the Dark Prophet wasn't bad. You can order a full or half glass and they also have large bottles that you can split with someone. I also heard the bartender mention they no longer fill growlers, but they do offer their bottles for sale if you need something on the go. read more

Funkwerks is a great brewery to visit if you are a fan of Belgians. While I did taste with my husband, I am in no way a beer drinker. I really liked the environment of the brewery. It was small and colorful. The pours for their tasters are very generous and they are reasonably priced. My husband really enjoyed a couple of their beers. We both thought the raspberry louven was tasty and ended up taking a bottle of it home. The guy running the bar was friendly and fast. He was good at explaining the flight when we had questions beyond the written descriptions. We even got an extra taster of the Dark Prophet. As I have said before the flight pours were very generous. The one complaint we both had about (and therefore the loss of a star) this brewery was that they do not fill growlers. While it is great that we were able to buy bottles of the stuff we liked, one of the main reasons we stopped in was to fill a growler. The reasoning behind this, the gentlemen running the bar said, was due to the quality control factor. While we understood this, we were very surprised as this is the first brewery that does not allow growler fills. Funkwerks is a great place to stop in and try some Belgians and get friendly, good service. They have great glasses for pouring the Belgians as well! read more

On a recent and pretty all-inclusive Fort Collins brewery tour, Funkwerks was my favorite!!! They craft delicious, mostly saison-style Belgian beers, with many layers of flavor! I am just kicking myself for not buying several bottles and slipping them into my suicase to bring back to Austin. Their flights are giant!! Whereas most breweries give you large shot-glass type samples, Funkwerks serves theirs in the same glasses you get otherwise, just a little less full. As tempted as I was, I wanted to pace myself because we still had many breweries on our list... So instead I got a glass of their special keg, which was pink peppercorn and Mexican all-spice Polaris... and then a King Saison. Both were amazing... I had a hard time deciding on my second one, and the bartender let me try as many as I wanted, which ended up being about four others. (Some breweries would call that a flight right there!) We also got a bottle of Deceipt to take with us-- and that might have ben my favorite one of all! Can't wait to return to Fort Collins so I can visit again-- and maybe even attend one of these awesome (and well priced!) pairings they participate in too... read more

The boyfriend got a sampler, and I had a dollar tangerine soda that was actually pretty good. I was happy they had an option for the non-drinking folk that was a little different. The sampler is a big boy sampler. If you have a mildly lower tolerance, or you are experience some altitude sickness like he was, having a sampler might leave you in the deep need for a DD. The sampler is also very nicely prices for the quantity of beer you receive. I did watch in mild horror as a couple drank a sampler each and then got on their bikes. I have a hard time riding a bike sober. I guess that's colorado for ya. In my boyfriend, gave all the beers mega thumbs up. They went down with gentle ease, and leaving him in a relax, happy beer mood. The hardest/difficult part for my boyfriend was balancing it the whole tray out to the patio. We played rummy on the patio in the back. It was a relaxed environment with plenty of people with their dogs, lovers, or books. It was enjoyable night. They do close at 8 o'clock so you can't lull into a saison induced bliss until the wee hours of the night. That's the only downside. read more

I had a lovely experience with KIPP and TASHA today! ATTENTIVE, FRIENDLY, and WELCOMING. Highly recommend the "Peachy King." Delicate fruity notes on the nose with a funky, sour bite on the tongue. Finishes with a summery peach sweetness with the proper booze boost at the end. Learned a great recipe for chili and got great information about Brettanomyces from KIPP and laughed about the new Pokémon Go gym addition to the brewery with TASHA. Ugh Melissa C. posted an EXAGGERATED LIE of a review! Giving Fuckwerks and their WONDERFUL taproom staff a single star review is just rude and incorrect! IF YOU WANT A BEER DURING A BUSY RUSH, YOU SHOULD MAYBE WALK UP TO THE BAR RATHER THAN CHILDISHLY WAITING AT YOUR TABLE POUTING AND COMPLAINING. Read the damn room. People like that have clearly NEVER worked in the industry and need more empathy and respect for those who do. read more

funkwerks is one of our favorite breweries to visit, however a recent visit has been disheartening. We purchase kegs from them on occasion and bring back the old keg, apparently they lost our last receipt and wanted to charge us a full deposit while we had their cashed keg in hand. The owner was at the bar drinking a beer with his daughter. He got upset that I said a bad word regarding the issue in front of his daughter who I'm sure he will be drinking and driving home later in tote. I'll not be returning. Sad to see local businesses treat Colorado natives in this fashion who has supported them from the beginning. AFTER BRAD RESPONDED: I'm sorry I was so upset. We drove 200 miles specifically to come to your brewery because we like your beer so much. While I know you are a small local brewery, you are a destination for many. To cause such an inconvenience for those who come from far away was disheartening to say the least. Had I not expressed frustration, your policy would have remained the same and more people would have suffered the same frustration. Thank you! read more

Went twice while here on our annual vacation. Beer is excellent and they are very friendly and relaxed.

I love this place, and I always stop here during my trips to FoCo. There are so many good aspects to this place that I really don't know where to begin. I guess I'll start with the beer. This brewery specializes in saison styles, so some people might be a little afraid to order. Thankfully, the beertenders are very helpful and always explain what a saison is to those unfamiliar with the style. For the saison lovers, this is Heaven because they know how it do it right. They have anywhere from 12-15 taps I believe. The beers are listed on the chalkboard, and a paper menu is also included to give a description. Don't forget to read the pairings, because they are hilarious and offer good advice. For example, Peachy King pairs well with using too many emojis, while Mango King pairs well with falling out of hammocks. The bar itself seats about 8-12 people, and there are small tables as well as room to stand. Outdoor seating is nice, although I've actually only ever looked at it. The smaller size adds to the culture and atmosphere of the brewery. Everyone is more likely to talk about beer, and the beertenders are more than happy to chime in. Tourists come in all the time so it's always fun to strike up a conversation about different areas. Being from Phoenix, they think it's crazy I can survive 115 degree temperatures, and I make fun of them when they say 90 degrees is hot. There's always good conversation and people are always having a good time. A great beer selection and environment make this a great place to hang out. Check it out! read more
