Dr. Lam is an outstanding physician. He is worldly and humble, and exudes calmness while being very positive and upbeat. I often have an array of questions to ask Dr. Lam and some can be very personal; he answers them all with tact and understanding, sharing his expertise, advice, and knowledge of medicine as a balanced and well-practiced OB/GYN. Dr. Lam has many years of experience with complicated deliveries that were successful because he applied traditional techniques to the delivery that are highly effective, but not used by many doctors today. He gives thoughtful answers that are just the right balance of technical and simple. Dr. Lam approaches all matters methodically to find the best treatment step for the patient, then clearly communicates it. Dr. Lam was so sweet and visited two of my friends after they gave birth; it was exciting to see him meet the little ones :-) The patient-doctor connection and genuine care from Dr. Lam was palpable and was so warming. All of his patients I know and those who work with him in the hospital hold Dr. Lam in very high esteem - he is truly among the best! Thank read more

Wow. I'm not usually tongue-tied when it comes to writing reviews, but words can't really express how fortunate I am to have Dr. Lam as my OB. I came to Dr. Lam 3/4 through a complex pregnancy, of all the doctors (and there were several) that saw me during this time, Dr. Lam was heads and shoulders the best in technical skill, bedside manner and genuine caring. He also handled my scary delivery complications in a way that made me know my baby and me were going to be OK. I wouldn't have wanted any other doctor in the world at that moment. Also, I had never had a male OBGYN before Dr. Lam, but I am completely comfortable with him and plan to be his patient until the day he retires! read more

I had a bad experience with Dr. Lam. When I went to see him, I told him my concerns and he said that the would run some tests for me and call me in a few days with the results. I didn't hear back from him after a week, so I called and left a message (you can never talk to anyone live) explaining that I was approaching the end of my plan year and was anxious to complete any follow-up appointments and fill any prescriptions in the next three weeks so they would be under this year's plan - I had already fulfilled my out of pocket and my insurance was paying for 100% of everything! I received a call back from the doctor, but he seemed puzzled as to why I had asked him to call me. When I explained that I hadn't heard back from my test results (at least a week overdue) he began giving my test results back to me. One of my hormone levels, he said, was almost zero and also my cholesterol was high. After reading the results, silence. So, I asked "What are the next steps?" Dr. Lam was completely confused by this question. When I pointed out that he had just told me that two of my results were abnormal, he sputtered around I finally had to help him out by discussing the proposal for the low hormone levels that we had discussed in his office. I gave up on the cholesterol and decided to modify my diet for a year to see if it helped. I may not be a doctor on tv, but I play one in real life! I'm not really sure why this guy was such a dud with me. I know some people push the patient empowerment thing too far, but I swear I'm not one of those people! On the other hand, I'm not one of those people who blindly do whatever their doctor asks without even asking why. If my hormone levels are low and he doesn't think I need treatment, a two minute explanation would probably suffice. is that too much to ask?? Beyond Dr. Lam's weirdness, also annoying is that this office lacks communication and operational efficiency. The last time I was there, there were 8 women in line waiting to sign in with the receptionist and the line wasn't moving fast. I had to wait in line for 10 minutes just to hand them a form that they forgot to give me when I checked in.. Maybe they should have spent less on the fancy office and hired a few extra people instead. The other issue is that I have never got a live person on the phone and voicemails are not returned in the specified time or ever. I have a certain prescription that I cannot get refilled via my mail-order pharmacy because this office can't manage to call them back and give them the information they need. I have to go to a local pharmacy and pay a higher co-insurance. Thanks. read more

I had a bad experience with Dr. Lam. He never talk to me about the risk of having preclampsia, even tough during my last two months of the pregnancy I developped 2 simptoms of the 3 you need to be diagnosed preclampsia. Those are, 1.swollen (edema), 2.put on heigh fast, 3. protein in my urine. The swollen was extreme, the last month and concerning the weight I was 120 pounds when I got pregnant and 185 pounds the week 39 of the preganancy. I can't believe he never talk about the risk that me and my baby could have, even tough I was HUGE and SWOLLEN. I called the ofice on the 2nd january 2014 (my due date was Jan 6) to explain how swollen I was and that I didnt feel well (week 40 of my pregnancy)..."put your legs up and wait"... that was the answer.... I was not happy about that answer and I decided to go to the hospital after calling the office and let them know that I was going to the hospital.... when I get the hospital I was *3 protein in my urine...and they diagnosed preclampsia. I was so swollen that I couldnt have a vaginal delivery and I had a HIGH RISK DELIVERY with C-Section. The baby was 4.8 pounds....very small, and I was HUGE¡¡¡¡. The doctor that was on call that night was great and help me a lot. Two days after the delivery Dr. Lam came (at last) to my hospital-room and said..."Hi, I just came to say hello. I am glad you went to the hospital".... ...............Really??????? I expected more communication and information from my OB. read more

I was interest to see review by Fran posted 2015. Dr Lam did the same to me. He carried out a D&C in his office When I changed doctor I too was told that should not have happened. He had no other staff with him & despite me passing out several times just let me walk out of office alone( which I was just about able to do) despite numerous attempts by phone & mail to office I could not get copies of my notes to establish how he document this. I could not safely recommend him to anyone read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Lam. He is the kindest, most engaged doctor I've found. He helped deliver both my children, and though both presented some challenges (what birth doesn't?), he did it with panache. Honestly, you can't go wrong with him. The best part? He always gives you a hug when you leave. read more

In addition to seeing my regular OB/GYN, I ended up seeing Dr. Lam several times throughout my pregnancy as well. He is very nice, patient, and always is in a great mood. He spent time answering all my questions and I would highly recommend him! read more

Recently saw Dr Lam for a prenatal visit. He seemed fine, although he didn't wash his hands prior to "examining" me (if you get my drift). Eww. He also starts to open the door, then knocks, which wasn't so nice when I was getting dressed. Clinically he seems fine, he answered my questions appropriately and in a knowledgable manner. read more

Dr Lam may be a male OB/GYN. He makes you feel very comfortable and you are able to ask any questions that seem uncomfortable but makes you feel all questions are open. The office staff is amazing. His assistant, Veronica who helps him with surgery and all the paperwork was wonderful and very patient. My paperwork was unclear and she helped without any hesitation. I'm so lucky to have found him. read more

Dr. Lam is one of the most compassionate kind physicians I have met and had as my personal doctor. He held my hand through the D&C's after yukko moments. I had all three of my babies at CPMC He held my hand and massaged my head when I was moaning through natural child birth (child #1) I can't say anything negative about this wonderful physician. He has a love for the 49'ers plus he has pics of Joe in his office. One of the wonderful moments of kindness was when I was 25 wks pregnant with my 2nd child and he asked permission from my daughter (2 yrs at the time with blazing pink eye) to take my blood pressure. I was fortunate to have the same loving kind OB nurse, Christine, at each delivery, (per my request upon eminent arrival) and Dr Lam commented upon that. He was quick to note how responsive each baby was, as well as appreciate each person I invited into the DR . (spouse and best friend) Dr Lam delivered my nieces and nephews as well, with the same great respect and love for baby and mamma. read more

This doctor performed a D&C on me while I was on the exam table in his office, without first telling me that he would be doing this procedure and without anesthesia. Anesthesia is customary for this procedure. My new Gyn told me she would never perform a D&C without it. The experience was horrific. I am posting this review 5 years after the fact because I have not recovered from the trauma. read more

It is Friday afternoon, and although my procedure was just this past Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Lam, in his usual fashion knew I was anxious about my results and called me ..in the 15 plus years I have been his patient..I have found him to be highly skilled, very professional, competent and kind...he returns phone calls...answers questions, listens with both ears, and tries to insure that the patient's needs are met..be it in the hospital, in his office or in the come and go procedure area..when the office moved downtown a few years ago..I never thought I would follow..it was so inconvenient..after trying a few other physicians,I am convinced(and I am a RN by profession) that I cannot do better...please consider the one star yelpers here..consider the source and read the source of their displeasure..he has never let me down,..he is a "physician's physician"...many of the women physicians go to him! read more

Dr. Lam has top notch credentials and a wonderful staff. He can handle any ob or gyn complication with the utmost expertise while keeping a calm demeanor. What is most impressive about him is that he is a warm, kind, caring and humble human being. Before I met him, I was completely prejudiced against male doctors. I did not choose him as my OB for the birth of my son. Dr. Lam happened to be the doctor on call. Good thing, because my son was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice! I have stayed with Dr. Lam for 12 years and I LOVE having him as a my doctor! read more

AMAZING. He actually, really, really knows how to handle the most complex problems -- I know because my wife had some of those. He is not only very experienced, but also a good person that immediately makes you comfortable. He really helped us out and I am thankful/grateful we found him. read more

Dr Lam is wonderful! Not only is he a empathetic, respectful and a kind person he is also extremely competent, thorough, and knowledgeable. He diagnosed me with endometriosis about 5 years ago and has been closely working with me ever since (there is no cure only medication and surgery treatments). Prior to starting at Golden Gate OBGYN, I had gone through about 7 different practices around the Bay Area - not one doctor would even entertain the possibility that I had endometriosis (even though its a hereditary and runs in my family). Had it not been for Dr Lam I would probably be still looking for a cause to my symptoms. He has saved me from years of pain, misdiagnosis and permanent infertility. I can't say enough positive things about Dr Lam. He is the best! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Lam's for 15 years now or thereabouts. He's just the best - one of the finest doctors in SF. There's nothing much else to say - except, if you are fortunate enough to have him as your Oby/Gn - then you are in good hands! read more

Dr. Lam delivered my baby last week, and I am so gratefull. He was friendly, calm, and there's just niceness flowing out of him. I had a pretty quick and easy labor, but my baby had meconium in the womb, which was a bit scary. Dr. Lam handled everything cooly and was careful to deliver my son slowly, so as not to let him cry and breath the meconium further in. All of the meconium was suctioned out and everything was fine in the end. Dr. Lam stitched me up quickly, and didn't forget to offer my husband the honors of umbillical cord cutting. He even came to visit us the next day! Dr. Lam wasn't my doctor throughout pregnancy (I saw Dr.Gailaif who is wonderful too) but based on my delivery I highly recommend him. read more

Dr. Lam is absolutely wonderful. Have been going to him for over 5 years and totally trust and respect him. He is knowledgeable, and yet so humble. I've spoken with many staff members at CPMC and they all mention that he's their favorite, too. read more

Dr. Fung Lam is simply the best OB/GYN I have ever encountered! He is kind, considerate, knowledgeable, gentle, personable, and an all around superb individual and physician. His medical skills are beyond compare. At the end of November, Dr. Lam performed a complete Hysterectomy on me....the results were spectacular with only a day or two of slight discomfort....then, no pain pills, no sleeping pills......only breakfast in bed! I can not speak highly enough about all of my encounters with this fine, fine doctor! read more

I LOVE Dr. Lam. He has such a wonderful bedside manner and is extremely polite and attentive. I've always had female OB/GYN's in the past. However, once I had my first child I needed to look for an OB that would fit my needs. I feel so fortunate to have found him at Golden Gate OB. I visited many doctors from the same practice during my pregnancy and felt that he provided me with the best care. Moreover, once my little girl was born, he brought his professional camera to our suite to take a few photos of the family. They are by far my favorite hospital photos - so thoughtful of him to send them to us. read more

I highly recommend Dr Lam, he is kind, patIent and empathetic. He preformed a polypectamy surgery on me in May and called to check on me the day after. I trust Dr. Lam and I look forward to being his regular patient. read more

Absolutely the BEST OF THE BEST! Dr. LAm Facilitated the easiest, funnest , most fulfilling care throughout our 2nd pregnancy. We knew we needed a c-section and chose him based on his reputation as a great OB doc and one of the best surgeons in California. I must say, they were absolutely right. The surgery was impeccable (almost an untraceable scar). He is kind, patient, sweet and talented. Would recommend him to anyone. Top notch. We love him. Thanks read more
