Dr. Cunningham and her staff are stellar. The intimate setting of her practice was exactly what I needed to safely deliver my 2 babies. She spent the time with me and my husband answering questions and during delivery and labor I truly felt I was in good hands. I've read some of the negative reviews and it makes me sad. Nona is really a special person, she made me feel so comfortable and yet has so much medical knowledge. I always felt I was in good hands and that her recommendations were made to deliver a safe and healthy baby. Dr. Cunningham was the doctor who oversaw my pregnancy and delivered my son at Marin General Hospital. My weekly appointments at the end of my pregnancy were on Thursdays and during my last two she stripped my membranes without asking me, the first time unsuccessfully and the second time successfully beginning my labor. I had the feeling she was trying to get the baby delivered before the weekend. Stripping membranes is not only painful and invasive but it is absolutely something that should only be done with the patient's explicit consent. Unfortunately after reading some of the other reviews here it does not seem like my experience was unique. I should also say I had really positive experiences with her staff and was sad to end my care with them. It's too bad that my experience with Dr. Cunningham overshadowed my experience with the rest of her staff by so much. read more

I had the same experience as other reviewers. I called to make an appt. for my regular exam. The Office person scolded me why I waited so long and I will have to wait a year. Meaning if you waited this long, we don't want to see you. Completely unacceptable behavior and zero professionalism by her staff. I have been going to Dr. Cunningham for many years and she is great, but, if this is their policy and how they treat patients -- it is unfortunate. This could have been handled so much better, e.g., can I put you on a cancellation list, instead I was treated like a five year old who did not turn in their homework on time and I am being punished. read more

I received an email from Dr. Cunningham's office to remind me to come in for a well woman visit. I thought this was strange as I have not seen her for several years. I only saw her once at that. I never went back because this woman is wholly inappropriate. The email made me flashback to that day in her exam room. During my pap exam, I was very tense and nervous, Dr. Cunningham stated "you need to relax...that is why rape hurts". Its taken me a lot of time to admit to myself this happened. I still think about it here and there but I have truly shoved it in the back of my mind. For reference about me...I work in healthcare as a critical care RN of 12 years. I have no reason to lie about this. Do not go to this person for care. read more

The level of care and compassion you receive as a patient from Dr. Cunningham's office is exceptional. I fight to get my other doctors on the phone whereas I get a near immediate call back from this office. I had some health issues that were met with true kindness and care. They always followed up, in fact multiple times, to see how I was doing. They aren't turning around clients in rapid succession like in other offices. They care and know each person individually. Dr. Cunningham is no nonsense and no frills and I appreciate that from her and her office. She tells you her exact medical opinion while also being a human being. She will always stay longer in your room answering each and every one of your questions - I have never felt rushed from her and have always been heard. I must give a huge shout out to Courtney and Deborah. They are so lovely that I would consider them my friends, not just staff that works at my doctors office. If you don't want to just be a number in the medical system, do yourself a favor and go to this practice. I've been there for nearly two years and will never go anywhere else. read more

There is something so special about seeing the same provider for each doctor visit and at delivery. Dr. Cunningham is an expert in her field. Dr. Cunningham is AMAZING. Her bed side manners, experience, and skills are unparrlled. However, unfortunately, her practice is extremely impacted and if you need care outside of your "normal" pap smear schuelde you will have a hard time getting care. Annual appointments are booking out more than a year out. Finally, where the office staff is nice enough, they clearly also overworked and unable to follow through on tasks. Over the course of a month, I was given the run around with trying to get seen. I was told to call back in a week, I did that and was told that they would talk to Dr. Cunningham about my situation and call me back. I never received a call back. The good news is that I am my own advocate and was able to get care form my primary doctor. I will be changing my ob to make sure that I can be seen when I need to be seen. I recommend that the office staff do their jobs, follow-up with patients, at a minimum, consistently so that people can make informed decisions about next steps. Don't waste your time trying to get into this practice. She is probably not taking new patients and the waiting list is probably a joke. This is probably why the office staff didn't care to close the loop in my instance or even make a note in my file about my calls. read more

Nona is an amazing Doctor & Woman. She has provided me excellent care 35 years; straight out of her training. I look up to her as a professional and a human. I know we had varying beliefs on abortion. I was saddened & offended to walk in for my appt. and from registration see a big white board reading "you must vote. Protect women's rights to abortion". This is not acceptable to force a political agenda to murder in the office of a Doctor bringing precious life into the world. Politics and medicine must not mix in the health care work place. This is no more acceptable then a sign that read vote to keep America free of illegals. Neither belong in a medical office. read more

I switched practices, and am updating my review to 1-star because the differences between a modern practice with current technology, competent staff, and extremely responsive nurses and doctors is mind blowing. I will NEVER trust my care to a single-physician practice ever again. Having any issues during pregnancy is scary enough, so it was a huge relief to find a new doctor when I did because the response to my questions was immediate the first time I reached out through the patient portal and my doctor followed up with me a few days later with an in-person appointment and an action plan. Given that I couldn't reach Dr. Cunningham on multiple occasions, I doubt she would have provided the level of care I just received. read more

Dr. Cunningham is a rare breed of doctor that is virtually impossible to find these days. I go to her for OB. She, personally, sees me for every single appointment and is the one who delivered my first child and will be delivering my second soon. She never scares or shames pregnant moms. She only ever focuses on helpful advice and encouraging words. On top of having a personalized experience with her as a provider her office staff is INCREDIBLE! When you call the office a person answers the phone, not a recording. Lori, Deborah and Courtney are fantastic and know the practice inside and out. They are wonderful and friendly and always happy to see you. I cannot recommend this office enough if you are looking for obstetric care that is above and beyond and more personalized than going to a big medical group! read more

I would like it to be noted that one star of this review is for Courtney. She is a tech at the office and is just wonderfully kind and a lovely person. Every experience we had with her was upbeat, helpful, felt customer service oriented, and she was a shining light there. The rest of the experience at this office was unfortunately 1 star. When we first visited... we had some initial reservations. On the first visit we came into the office and it felt a little surprised about the presentation. The waiting room is dark, old, feels dirty and a bit messy. All of the exam rooms are also very tiny.. feel the size of a broom closet. The office has very dated decor, old facilities and in general seems disorganized/scattered and not super clean. This isn't very relevant in terms of being able to receive awesome care so we didn't make it a big issue but there is something about the way we felt while there that wasn't great. After being a patient and pregnant for nearly 6mos, we found ourselves exploring all of options and decided that we wanted to consider home birth. My partner and I had different frame of reference on hospital vs home births and so after talking about it, we decided that to cover every base, we wanted to continue our obgyn care simultaneous to receiving care from a midwife, so that whichever route the birth took, whether home birth or hospital birth, we would have someone who has followed through the pregnancy and knew us and our history etc. We felt that sounded reasonable and we continued moving forward with our obgyn appts. When our midwife requested the records, Nona's office then asked if we were planning to have the birth at home. We told them yes, we were hoping for that. We were then told that couldn't help us anymore because "they really don't make enough money on the routine appts. Most of their money is made for the delivery." We were so shocked! While we understand the concept of having to run a business ... that phrasing was really surprising. I felt like I was just a check to be cashed, rather than a person, receiving healthCARE. I expressed that I didn't feel cared for and was told "Sorry about that. We would love to help you get the PROPER CARE but without knowing for sure we will be doing the delivery there's just not enough money to continue." I could go on and on about all that this represents to me the antithesis of how healthcare should work, but I'll leave that to you to think about. On top of this final closing on the worst note... there were two other circumstances in which I felt very confronted/uncomfortable in their office: One was when I shared my hesitations about hospital care and birth and about the environmental differences between hospitals and home births, and was told "Well, who is is the most important here? You, or the baby?" which to me felt like low rent manipulation and really violating. BOTH the mother and the baby are EQUALLY important. Every woman should feel safe and safely held during this incredible transition and life changing moment. I often felt patronized during my discussions with Nona. The second was when expressing that I wanted an unmedicated birth, being pushed toward a medicated birth and being told that it needs to be left on the table as an option, even if it was against what I wanted for myself and the child. In any case, she has wonderful reviews from many others so I'm sure they are a great match for some people... but for us.. not ideal. Sharing this review for those who may find it helpful. read more

Dr. Cunningham is the GOAT. She comes HIGHLY recommended by some of the best midwives and doulas in the Bay Area. The hospital staff speaks very highly of her and she has a phenomenal reputation in the community.  I will be forever indebted to her for allowing me to deliver my second child vaginally even though she was breech. She helped me avoid an unnecessary C-Section (the only delivery option offered by my other Dr. for a breech baby). From my first consultation with her through my entire hospital stay Dr. Cunningham was wonderful. She answered all of my questions, explained the risks and benefits and what I could expect throughout the entire process. I felt very comfortable and confident with her. The 15 minute delivery itself was a piece of cake thanks to Dr. Cunningham's skills and specialized knowledge.  Her office staff and nurses were all very nice and professional as well. Her office staff went above and beyond to help me get my records and transfer my care very quickly. Plus they are genuinely a nice group of women to chat with. I truly enjoyed my experience at this office. read more

Dr Cunningham delivered our 3 children. We felt beyond fortunate to have her as our obstetrician for each delivery! With each delivery, she was encouraging, confident and fantastic. My review is in regards poor medical care, disorganized office and disappointing bedside manners. As a woman trying to conceive - your obgyn- should be your closet physician for care. In my last pregnancy - the doctor never saw me, always passed me to a np, when I was going through a miscarriage over the weekend their emergency line was not working - when I told them Monday, they challenged me as they had received some calls. In one of my most scary moments of my life - they weren't there and they had the audacity to tell me it must have been me despite that my husband and I called them nearly 20 times during our miscarriage. In terms of disappointing care - I was having some Pain and I asked if it could have been an early chemical pregnancy and she pretty much told me people make things up when they want to be pregnant. I know my body and this was an insult to what I know and feel. As a patient for nearly 3 years - I never saw the doctor once and honestly they are just out of touch. This is our bodies - and caring for it and helping is their job and they don't do that. This office is so small - and if you have an emergency they will not and cannot help you. I found a new practice that treats its patients far better. Do not come here. read more

Dr. Cunningham attempted (unsuccessfully+painfully) to strip my membranes during an in-office cervical exam without asking for consent or informing me that she was going to try. She pushed an induction on me without offering alternatives. I was extremely pressured to give birth on her schedule. She opted for a Cook's Catheter procedure and Pitocin. I expressed my desire to avoid induction, and she said she doesn't understand why people don't like Pitocin because it's "just oxytocin." She doesn't believe that Pitocin can drastically increase contraction pain. Dr. Cunningham proceeded with a non-emergency cervical examination, while I was in the hospital to give birth, in spite of me repeatedly and emphatically saying "NO" during the examination. She told me that I was "only making it worse" for myself as I was trying extremely hard to back away from her on the hospital bed. In my attempts to get away, I ended up with my feet on her shoulders, unsuccessfully trying to push her hand out of me. She made me feel violated and unsafe. She took away my feeling of control over what happens to my body. She didn't explain why she did this, what she was trying to accomplish, or what the procedure was for. The next day, while I hid in the shower afraid of where I was and what had happened, my husband communicated to Dr. Cunningham that in order to proceed she needed to mend the trust that she had broken. When she eventually showed up, she tried to talk to me in the middle of a contraction. The nurse told her to come back after. When she came back some time later, she said: "I hear you think I've been a bad girl. That I violated you." How in the world did she think that was an appropriate way to start? My doula and husband worked with the wonderful hospital staff to switch to the midwives and doctors who worked at the hospital, and so that I would not have to see or speak to Dr. Cunningham again. The hospital provided exemplary care, and I felt safe and secure. The doctor who delivered my baby was fantastic. I would absolutely not recommend Dr. Cunningham to anyone. read more

Nona has been my Gyno for almost 20 years now. From the first time I met her, I felt so comfortable with her welcoming personality. I was also impressed with the amount of time she spent with me. She really took the time to get to know me, listen to my questions and concerns, and give me sound advice. She was an absolute breath of fresh air from the Gyno I had previously seen for years. What continues to surprise me is that every year when I have my annual appointment, she acts like we just saw each other a couple of weeks ago. She remembers things about me and my life. She's gentle, considerate, knowledgeable, intuitive and kind. She and her staff are the best! read more

i have been Dr. CunninGham's patient for I would say 3 yrs now? When I got pregnant, I felt comfortable, confident and well cared fOr, whenever I have a concern I can always call them and one of her girls will always call me back, be it about pregnancy or billing, they were always there. She also makes sure that she will deliver your baby herself. I was scheduled for induction on 10/21 at 7pm but didn't get to push til midnight of 10/23, I gave birth at 2:55 am and early morning the next day she was there to check up on me. Not only that, the ff days, her girls, Courtney and one more visited me in tHe hosp and said they just wanna drop by to make sure everything is ok which i found so very sweet and thoughtful. During my labor and delivery, I had acquired pre eclampsia and was advised to take bp meds 2x a day, at that time there was this huge wildfire up North and being a resident of Rohnert Park, the pharmacy where my meds are was closed I called Dr Nona, (they were closed at this time bec of the fire, but she was in the office ) I asked her if she could ttransfer or order another prescription to the store that was open, in a matter of 15mins my meds were ready to pick up, not only that, she also asked her daughter to call me baCk to let me know that thE meds were ready, I mean... how thoughtful is that? On my post partum appt, she and staff (esp Courtney) gave me a hug and warm wishes since I won't be seEing them for a year! Her clinic is such a nice community where u will feel cared for and a priority! I am sure to stay with them til my next baby! read more

I wish I could give ten stars! It took me a long time and medical intervention to get pregnant. Dr. Cunningham made me feel so comfortable throughout my pregnancy. When it came to making decisions, she laid out all of my options and gave me her recommendations when I asked for them, but I always felt like the decisions were mine. Additionally, there was never any question as to whether she would be the doctor to deliver my baby, which I now understand is pretty rare after talking to friends who have had different experiences. I had a scheduled cesarean planned, it got moved up by a week and then I ended up delivering in the middle of the night because I went into labor unexpectedly. Dr. Cunningham was called by the hospital probably around midnight and was there within the hour. Not only did she show up for me then, but she was in the hospital every morning after that to check on me. Seeing a familiar face after going through surgery and feeling completely exhausted and clueless as a new parent was like having a warm blanket wrapped around me right when I needed it. I felt like a high priority to her throughout my pregnancy. To top it off, the team that works with her is wonderful - Lori, Deb, Courtney - they are so pleasant and warm, they make the whole experience so wonderful. Highly recommend this practice! read more

If you value your life, avoid this doctor's office. This may sound extreme, but in my case, the staff not only failed to tell me about critical test results, but also gave me completely incorrect information that could have been very detrimental to my health. I have never met Dr. Cunningham, only saw the nurse practitioner for many years, but she has not replied to two emails and a mailed letter I sent describing the chain of events and complete unprofessionalism of her office staff that lead me to change providers. I have zero trust in this office and as one of her employees explained, her "gunslinger approach to medicine". Run (literally) for your life! read more

I just want anyone considering Dr Cunningham as their female doctor. I don't have health insurance and I got a UTI...as unbelievable as it may be, this Dr doesn't treat Bladder Infections, No! I recieved a prescription for antibiotics, but the dosage was not written on the prescription. I now have to go to Urgent care to get this UTI treated properly When I called and said I have a UTI I was told "we don't treat bladder Infections ". Before I got this pesky infection I liked the office, I will now be looking for a new doctor. This is the truth. I am not angry I just wish I would have known before choosing Dr Cunningham as my Doctor. I think this is important for any woman looking for a gynaecologist. read more

Nona is truly a one of a kind doctor. I absolutely adore her, and am so thankful to her and her staff for guiding me through my first pregnancy. We found out at our 9 week ultrasound that we were pregnant with twins, and of course with this news, I had so many questions and had to re-write my whole narrative about my pregnancy. There are so many myths out there about twin pregnancies and twin deliveries and I always felt like I got clear, direct and honest guidance from Nona. I ended up going into early labor at 35 weeks, and she was right there within 20 minutes of my arriving to the hospital. She rested throughout the night while I labored in the room next door and delivered my babies vaginally within 26 minutes of each other. It was all such a pleasant experience. Where most doctors would schedule a c-section right away when they heard "twins" I knew I was in good hands with someone who was incredibly experienced and wouldn't push an intervention on me unless she really thought it was in my best interest. I looked forward to going to her office for every visit throughout pregnancy, and it was so wonderful to see her face each morning after I delivered in the hospital to come check up on me. I miss going to weekly appointments at her office because Deb, Courtney and Lori are all so awesome as well. You will be in absolutely great hands with Nona and her team! read more

NEWSFLASH: Dr. Cunningham is back in practice! I just had an appointment with her today. She's as focused, vibrant and caring as ever. Lori, the office receptionist, is good natured and kind. So, despite the spartan decor, she makes the office vibe warm and welcoming. I appreciated the buttery soft fabric dressing gown and privacy sheet I was provided with for my annual pelvic exam. When I asked the doctor about them, she said that she had sewn and dyed them a soothing lavender color herself. They're made of a blend of cotton and bamboo that she felt would make her patients feel more comfortable during office visits. Yeah, no wonder she didn't fit into the corporate medical machine at Prima Medical Group. After a detailed exam, all of my one hundred and one questions answered and a prescription adjusted, I went on my way knowing that I'm all good for another year having been in Dr. Cunningham's care. read more

Dr. Cunningham is the best, most kind, patient, caring doctor I have ever been to. She delivered my son at Marin General and I could not have had a better experience. I had to be induced and I did not want a c-section. She went slowly to make sure I had the best chance for a vaginal delivery, and when my son finally decided to show up, the Nona was right there. My stitches were beautiful. I healed quickly. My son's circumcision was clean and perfect and healed in 5 days (he didn't even cry!). I cannot recommend Dr. Cunningham more. I would travel from great distance to keep her as my doctor. I've never had a medical practitioner take so much time with me, explain everything, and be so genuine and caring. She is the doctor that I wish everyone could have. read more

Nona saved my life! I've been her patient for many many years and during my routine breast exam in 2006 she discovered a tiny lump that turned out to be cancer. Thanks to her, it was caught early, at stage 1. Nona just delivered my first child 12 days ago. I received the best care from Nona and her staff all throughout my pregnancy. At each of my appointments I had a short list of questions that I would run through with Nona and she addressed each one as if she had all the time in the world for me. I experienced a minor urgency in my pregnancy in my 36th week, and Nona coached me through every step of the way, which ultimately led to a successful vaginal birth of my healthy son at 37 weeks. I first heard of Dr. Nona Cunningham while on a social media website for Marin locals. Everyone was talking about how she was the best OBGYN and now I know why. Last April, I became pregnant and lucked out by getting Dr. Cunningham as my OBGYN. Sadly, my pregnancy ended in miscarriage (my second miscarriage) and Dr. Cunningham and her staff were all so supportive. They connected me with resources for therapy and support groups which have helped me so much. Also, Dr. Cunningham has made it her mission to help me keep a pregnancy, and eventually get my rainbow baby. One of the biggest blessings was that Dr. Cunningham was the first Doctor to take my endometriosis seriously. I'm thrilled to say that she performed a perfect laparoscopic surgery on me to remove my endometriomas. Once I'm fully healed, my husband and I will move forward with trying to get pregnant again. Not matter what happens during our journey towards starting a family, I know I have the best OBGYN looking out for me. I'm so grateful to her, beyond words. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Cunningham for over 25 and I highly recommend her. She is extremely competent and kind, and has very high integrity. She always seems calm, unhurried and in a great mood, which puts me at ease. During your appointment, you will feel like you are almost the only one on her schedule for the day, as she will take whatever time is necessary to completely address your issues.
