I can't believe I just spent $95 on a 45 minute massage. False advertising! Do not advertise one…read morehour for $79.95 (yes, I stupidly left a $15 tip) when YOU ONLY GIVE 45 MINUTE MASSAGES! That was the worst massage I've ever had. And she is the "lead" therapist?! Wow! Had the service went the full hour, and the massage been decent, you would've easily had my husband and I for your $79.95/month membership. Too bad I can't give zero stars or I would. FALSE ADVERTISING!! They only give 45 minute massages as they start you 10 min late and end 5 min early. DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER. Update: I emailed you at mgr.draper@handandstone.com and never received a response :( UPDATE: I called and spoke with Slater (as he never responded to my email or called me) who said if I removed my bad review, that they would give me half my money back from the crappy massage I had. I told him NO - this is my honest review and will let them keep the $40 as I'm sure they probably need it with their terrible massage therapists. And the one he told me I was being assigned to was "the best and the lead massage therapist." I would hate to see what the non-lead massage therapists do. This was THE WORST MASSAGE EVER and I'll never return to any Hand and Stone based on the way Slater handled this. He should have comped me a free massage or facial because you know what? I would have been a membership/ repeat customer. All over a measly $40. That was a bad business decision! Not my problem though.

Over the past couple months I had two separate alarming experiences with Elements Massage, one here…read moreat Sandy, and one in Cottonwood Heights. Here I will describe only the experience I had with Sandy location. I was greeted by a young male therapist whose name I can't remember. I will edit this to add his name when I find that out because I feel the need to warn you not to go to him, especially if you are a woman. I requested a deep tissue massage and for the first 20 minutes my therapist used only one hand, extremely light pressure, and barely moved at all. He was touching my body lightly with one hand and I could hear him shuffling his other hand doing something else. It sounded like he was shaking his hand around or something and it was really disconcerting. I felt confused and unsafe with him. I asked him if he was ok and the shuffling sound immediately stopped. I asked him to increase pressure and he went from a level one pressure to a level beyond what I would consider deep tissue. It was painful in a way that felt it was going against the grain of my muscles as if he were not trained in how to open up the muscles through deep tissue, instead making my body tense up against his movements. Although I was in pain I could see that he was not going to be able to find a balanced approach so I decided I would rather endure the extreme pressure rather than hardly any pressure at all. So I encouraged him by saying "this feels better". Then he said "I'm enjoying myself too". I felt horrified when he said he was enjoying himself and I froze, not knowing what to say or do since I have PTSD due to a history of being sexually assaulted. All of this being said, I am very concerned with the two people Elements has hired who have mistreated me. Whoever this male therapist was who made this sexual comment to me needs to be reprimanded and I don't think he should be allowed to practice.

For starters, I am also a massage therapist, and have been getting massages my entire life and it's really hard to make me feel unsettled during them. I usually love coming to places like this, and came in last night because my hamstrings were incredibly tight. The room was dead silent and had no music which wasn't the end of the world but made it feel a little awkward. The guy massaging me was mostly just pushing lotion around and I asked 3-4 times for more pressure, he said ok, and then didn't go any deeper. To make matters worse, I'm nearly positive he was texting through most of it. His phone would vibrate right by my head, and then suddenly he'd only have one hand kinda absently thumbing at my neck for a minute or two. He had the sheet draped almost off my butt it was so low but despite this, didn't ever work into my glutes at all. My feet were also never worked. I got him to go a bit deeper on my legs which is what I mostly needed, but again, just palm kneading. He then left, I assumed he went to get something but after ten minutes (of only an hour long massage) passed, I started to wonder if it was supposed to be over but when I lifted my head the door was wide open for anyone to walk by. Eventually, a woman came back in, grabbed the sheet so suddenly and almost pulled it entirely off of me, until it was once again, draped along the bottom of my butt. She then undraped both of my legs so the fabric was sorta just piled up between my thighs (this is an illegal drape by the way) , and used a hot towel to clean me off. Despite no one having worked my glutes, she came up under the little bit of covering, separating with her hands as she moved. I don't think it was intentional or anything of course, but the hot towel was fully touching my genitals. I've been to a lot of traditional massage places and I'm fine being entirely nude with nothing but a towel covering my butt if I feel like I can anticipate the flow of the massage and the session goes smoothly and allows me to relax and trust the therapist but this wasn't that. I'm used to the tapotement moves to wake up the body but she was fully just smacking my spine hard. She flipped me over them and I finally got some really good pressure on my head and arms but it was 5 minutes or less at that point, compressed the front of my legs but didn't uncover them. The massage ended and when I paid she reminded me that it was 70 by pointing to the sign, I said yes that's fine, she said it was also 3 dollars for using a credit card, again that's fine, and then she handed me a receipt where she ran the card for 83, ten dollars extra. I was kinda jarred at this point and just wanted to leave so didn't say anything. I was already going to tip and still did on top of that. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I still got some relief and I always tip, it was mostly habitual but feel like it was an uncomfortable, interrupted massage that I got charged extra for.
