My family is a regular customer here for more than 10yrs now. I recently got my bicycle here. Long story short,, I had one type of bicycle in mind and it was a hybrid between road and street bike. I knew what I wanted and I wouldn't think such bikes existed. When I mentioned to the guys at this store, I guess I asked at the right time because they started carrying the exact bicycle I wanted. We come here for flat tires, replacing bicycle accessories, and even just drooling over expensive toys but these guys have always have always been courteous and attentive. The price is comparable to other bicycle shops. The only difference is they have better customer service. read more

Hands down the best experience I've ever had purchasing a bike. Henry was the salesman who assisted me, and he was very knowledgeable and honest when it came to answering my questions. I was trying to choose between a Trek mountain bike and a Giant mountain bike. Henry explained the differences between them, and even went as far as showing me different color combinations on the computer that I could choose from. The bike fit, by Henry, at Fun Sport Bikes is superb! He is very knowledgeable. I sprung for the all inclusive package and it's well worth every cent. Once you enter the fit room, you can expect to complete a form that has questions relevant to the fit-some questions Henry will tie together for you during the modifications. There are so many levels to this fit, you'll be sure to be impressed. The way he works is like a magician. Also, he has the perfect demeanor for the job. After I filled out the form and turned around, the back wheel of my bike was removed and the bike hooked up to the trainer. Then he brought out a nifty devise, explained the purpose and took measurements, then swiftly put the devise away, and before I knew it, like magic, some other intriguing item appeared! This goes on and on...Another part of the process is riding your bike, while he carefully observes your body position(s) on a computer, and adds geometric overlays to examine for a precise fit. After doing this, he swiftly made adjustments to my bike, and then showed me photos of before/after, which was astonishing, in my case, and explained how the changes will impact my riding. I have not been out on my bike, since the fit, however, I can tell you, I feel much more comfortable on it now and am eager to go for a ride on my properly fit bike! read more

I like TREK. I have bought two TREK Mountain bikes from Fun Sport in the last 10 years, since the first one was stolen. We lived in Delhi for three years, and Delhi is full of about five different thorny weeds that are vicious, blood drawing, and tire popping! So, my husband installed solid inner tubes into my bike, making it heavy, awkward, and ride-able. Now we live near downtown Modesto, and living in the country, my dear bike took a beating. I finally went in a couple weeks ago to get it fixed. I was quoted a price for new chains(mine were orange with rust), new cables(also rusted), and new tires and tubes. The price seemed high(we are cheap), but worth it. I challenged the shop with asking to pay half at the time of drop off and the rest at pick up, and they weren't sure they could do it, but took extra time to find out for me.....excellent, kind customer service. I may have been the first ever, and I doubt they want to make it policy, but they found a way(God bless them!). It was finished in about a week(lots of repairs already in line), and without test driving her, I took her to Lake Tahoe to camp with my kids and some friends with kids who all had bikes with them too. I have to tell you, my bike positively feels like NEW to ride again! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy!!!!!!!! She rides so nicely, and feels like such a good fit again. I just can't say enough about how well they treated me, and how great my old bike works again!!! Hurray!!!!! What I like, is a business that treats you like a friend(they do), takes all the time you need like you are important(they do), tells you what they are going to do and what it will cost to do it before they do it(Fun Sport passes with flying colors!). Walked into the sister store (World of Wheels) and service was excellent !!! Service was a "10" !!! I was help by a young but very knowledgeable guy by the name of Adam. This guy knows mountain bikes!!! I was was close to buying but wanted to look at more bikes before I closed the deal. Adam called their other store (Fun Sports Bikes) to let them know I was on my. There I was met by Nick who was awesome!!! Nick has more than 10 years experience and it shows. He listen to what I was looking for and helped me find a bike that was better suited for my back pain. What's even better is that this bike was cheaper yet had all equal or better parts than the first bike, just a different brand and style. I have to agree with Carl Skaggs and other customers who gave them one or two stars cause that is actually what they are worth especially the manager. I bought a SE bike for my son and it's not even been a month yet, the bike has already gotten 3 flats. Everytime, I take it to get it fixed, they suggest to fix it certain way but it ends up being flat again. Today when I took the bike they wanted me to put a deposit down but I asked them to waive the deposit and I will pay when I pick up the bike. The guy asked the manager ( who refused to give his name, I bet his name is Brian from reading Carl's review) who said that he cannot change the company policy for me. I got little upset and told him that you have seen me here so many times since we bought this bike, it's not that I am gonna run away. I will pay when I pick up the bike. He tried to intimidate me by saying either pay the deposit or take your bike back, we won't work on it if I don't pay the deposit. First, I paid them but then thinking of the manager's attitude I changed my mind. I told them to refund my money that I will take my business someplace where they take care of their customer. This place is a rip off. I would give them zero stars if possible. They are all sweet and friendly to you and that is how they get ur money. I had the feeling the first day when I went in to their store that them being over sweet to their customers is kind of fishy. Please spend your money elsewhere. Be careful of these rip-offs. read more

Just had a great experience at Fun Sport Bikes. Went in to look for a bike rack for our SUV, being from out of town we had some bikes to get home and not enough room to take them. James was incredibly helpful and walked us through the pros and cons of each system. We ended up needing a hitch mount, unfortunately we didn't have a hitch. James suggesting getting one from Uhaul and then getting the hitch mount rack. Within an hour we were back and ready for the rack. James helped us get the rack on our SUV and walked us through how to use it. He seriously went above and beyond to make sure we got what we needed and couldn't have been nicer and more efficient. Wow. Such a great group at Fun Sport Bikes (FSB). I moved to Modesto in April and was overweight and out of shape. I went into the shop to get some tubes, and inquire about a tune-up. I met James, explained to him I was new, looking to lose some weight, and he gave me some info on their group rides. Took into consideration and moved on. Went in a few weeks later after my bike was almost inoperable and in bad need of a tune up. James was there again, said hi asked me why he hadn't seen me at the group ride, totally calling me out, lol. Tune up on the bike was a couple day turn around for a tune up and at a great price. Fast forward a few days later and I joined in the group ride. It was AMAZING!!!! It is a no drop ride with plenty of regroups. Such a fun experience, and a great way to meet new people, including the rest of the shop team from FSB (Nick and Brian) and some of the World of Wheels (WOW) staff. Everyone from the shop, and the fellow riders were just great and so welcoming to a newbie to the group. I have been back to work with everyone at the shop. Brian helped me out with a cleat fitting fixing some toe numbness I was getting. Nick helped me out with some food/endurance and James has sold me some awesome tires! Here is the icing on the cake. I was on the Saturday group ride on Saturday, 10/29, and had a pretty nasty crash. One in which I fell so hard it cracked my helmet in 4 different places. James and Nick were sweeping the ride and stopped to help me out. I was fine, no blood, some bruises but all in all in ok shape. I rode back to the shop with Eric (from WOW bike shop) and Natalie (FSB Employee) they made sure I got back safe. So nice of them given that we were 8 miles from the shop, and they are ruining their ride on account of me. Stopped into FSB the next day to buy a helmet, as mine cracked, and it was getting shipped to the store in a few days. Went in a few days later to pick it up and pay and the store decided to pay for the helmet for me!!!!! They said they felt bad that I broke it on a group ride and thanks for being a customer. I was/am blown away!!! Not everyday you find this level of customer service. You guys have earned my business for ANYTHING bike related, tubes, food, gels, bikes, anything. The staff allows a person to ride around in parking lot to get a feel for the bike make adjustments to the bike to fit the rider. I was in the market for a new bike and originally I called Cycle Masters in Turlock, but they let me know that they were closing early that day. So I go online and I get Fun Sports Bikes number, call them up and ask a guy named Nick if they have a certain Trek I was in the market for, they do. So I ask them what time they are closing and let them know I will be heading there from Merced. So I take the 30 minute drive to Modesto, I get there at exactly 5 (It's Saturday), which is an hour before they close. But they closed early, after I told them I was going to head up there and even confirmed the time they close. When I get to the door, there is someone inside, but they don't even have the common courtesy to try and communicate with me, so I don't even get a chance to tell them I'm the guy that called just an hour before. After that, I sit around in my car for maybe 10 -15 minutes and I see about 7 other potential customers try and get into the store. Everyone has the same distraught look on their face when they see it says on their window Saturday 10am-6pm. Fun Sports Bikes, and "Nick" showed a complete lack of respect towards myself and other potential customers that weekend. So it looks like I will have to take my hard earned money elsewhere. I advise everyone else to do the same. read more

If you have something directly in mind and know what you want, then go here. If you need help or advice in making a purchase, stay away. I never liked going here but would anyways because the options for quality biking parts are limited in Modesto. They would always act like smarmy know-it-alls and try to make me feel inferior, even if I knew what I was talking about. It would take an hour to do a simple operation like changing a chain or replacing a tube. Its still far better then World of Wheels but that's not exactly a compliment. read more

This is a long overdue review of Fun Sport that has been a few months in the making. Quick review: great bike shop, great mechanics, amazing staff and a supportive group of people for cyclists of all training levels. Long review: After repeated terrible experiences with another local bike shop (World of Wheels) I was ready to take all of my business online and to the East Bay. But I was lucky that Brian, one of the owners, reached out to me, and he has made it his mission to keep local cyclists buying local. He's doing everything right. ((For the sake of full disclosure, and one of the reasons I was hesitant to take my business to Fun Sport, the owners of World of Wheels are also part owners of Fun Sport. Luckily, the terrible business practices and personalities that have ruined World of Wheels, have stayed there and have not infiltrated the atmosphere at Fun Sport - all thanks to Brian's strong leadership there.)) I went to Fun Sport to have my pedals removed and left with (1) an appointment for a full fitting to my still relatively new Trek and (2) a fully tuned bike that FINALLY shifted smoothly. I spent a long time chatting with Brian and quickly realized I was dealing with a person who knew his business, knew his clientele, and would not make the mistakes that WoW had made. Uncertain whether this great experience was a fluke, I returned for my fitting. I had also experienced huge problems switching to cleats and was preparing for a big ride that I was considering doing in street shoes, for fear of falling. Brian was the first person to give me a good reason to switch to cleats: prevention of further knee injuries. He was the first person to adjust my cleats so that I could actually get in and out of the pedals without pain or difficulty. And yet, he was also the first person who did not judge me for (and actually seemed to understand...) my ultimate decision to stick with street shoes for my first big ride - despite having spent hours fitting me to my bike for cleats. When I made my decision, he wrote down the measurements, switched out the pedals, and began fitting me again, this time for street shoes. Then he wrote down those measurements, and gave me all the numbers so my bike could be adjusted anywhere. (I like the show of confidence, giving me the freedom to go to a different shop, even after he put in all that effort - no worries, though, I will only be returning to Fun Sport). Another hour later, I was re-fitted in my street shoes. Then, Brian double-checked the bike and tuned it up *again* to make sure it was ready for the ride on the upcoming weekend. After all this, I was charged for parts only. At this point, I knew I had found my local bike shop. So, when a friend joined me from out of town, two days before the ride, and needed parts to reassemble her bike after her flight, I immediately went to Fun Sport. I called and explained that we needed parts and a safety check. Initially I was told the cost of both, and that we wouldn't get the bike back until Saturday (it was Thursday). I explained we needed the bike the same evening (it was also 3 p.m.) because of the planned ride on Saturday, and was told by Toby, the mechanic, to bring it in and he would see what he could do. We went in and he not only had the part we needed, but he installed it, checked the bike assembly, and did the complete safety check right then and there. And then he charged us only half of what he had quoted me over the phone. As if three fantastic experiences in a row weren't enough, the Monday after the ride I received a phone call from Brian - asking how the bike fit had worked out, how the ride went, and making sure I was happy with everything. Now THAT is amazing service. Finally, the icing on the cake, I own a Trek - this is the local Trek dealer. So every time my bike is serviced or needs parts, I know they'll have the parts made for my bike. It doesn't get any better. In sum: I could not be more impressed with this store, the owner, Brian, and the staff. I walk in knowing I will be well-advised, well taken care of, and not taken for a ride (no pun intended). I still need to switch to cleats for the summer training season, and once I've mustered the courage for cleats, I will definitely be going back to Fun Sport and Brian for the big switch. read more

Typical Modesto business model. The reviews below are correct. Updating this one. My floor pump head decided not to work anymore. So I headed down for a replacement. These are generic types of heads, adaptable between all floor pumps with some ingenuity and mechanical know how. First thing the 'help' asks is "oh what brand is it", I told him does not matter what have you got. He retorts, well we need to know the brand, we don't stock stuff like that we have to order it", I said good bye and went home and ordered it from JensonUSA and had it next day for my trip. Again, why do you you have 500 bicycles on the floor and not one inflation head for a floor pump? Thats why these bums get none of my business! Avoid like the plague go out of town and learn to work on your own bikes! read more

I've frequented this Modesto LBS a half dozen times over 2010 while visiting family here. Being from So-Cal, I recognize that Modesto isn't nearly as bike-centric as in larger markets, but I must say that FSB represents the roadie scene very well. The people there are obviously passionate about what they do, and the product mix definitely suits my taste. Also, the fact that they're a BG Fit location is a plus, so when you roll out of the shop with your new $2000 machine, it'll fit you perfectly. The only negative I can point out is that they were out of parts cleaner which no shop should allow to happen, but that's a minor detail. If you're looking for "cheap" and general, this is not your place, but if you take road cycling as serious as a bible thumper does church, then you've found your home; FSB is my new home away from home. read more
