I ordered the vegetable ramen with an egg and a side of vegetable dumplings. They offer them steamed or fried, and I decided on fried. They are probably better steamed, but they weren't bad, I actually ended up dumping them into my ramen. The ramen itself is topped with a heaping handful of spinach, I love that they went heavy on the vegetables. I shut the door, scream "BABE". I hear man and woman employee voices talking to each other. I cannot understand. I then scream my boyfriend's name. He didn't know what was going on because he was so preoccupied with this woman employee trying to rush him to order. My boyfriend then knocks on the door and I make sure he tells before I open it this time. He says they sent him to check on me. As he's there comforting me, I'm STILL sitting in the bathroom with no toilet paper. That's when I yell again, this time at the employees, "WHERES MY F- TOILET PAPER". My boyfriend then gets handed not toilet paper ... napkins. After cleaning myself to the best of my ability with what they gave me ... thinking where is the toilet paper the man shouldve had had it went .... I storm out, my boyfriend behind me. The ramens broth was a bit simple but the noodles and the pork belly were great. I have a shellfish allergy and felt safe with all the food which is a big deal to me. Today we both had the Fun Bowl Ramen - Homemade noodle, pork broth, green onion, bamboo shoot, woodear mushroom, egg, seaweed. We both ordered an extra half egg. It's my favorite part of the soup - a soft boiled egg with a silky center. The eggs are marinated in soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar, in which gives the eggs a sweet and savory flavor. First thing to know about this place is that they make their noodles fresh in house so their noodles alone are unlike most places. Being a Jersey native where there are several ramen restaurants, who recently moved to Wilmington, I was excited to see there was a ramen spot with good reviews. It's a small place with a few tables but we came around 7:30 PM and were seated right away. The servers are super friendly, though there may be a little bit of a language barrier. Our party of 4 ordered all different bowls of ramen and it truly hit the spot for each of us. The broth has so much flavor & isn't overly salted. I love wood ear mushrooms & they definitely give you a lot! It's also not often that ramen will automatically come with a soft boiled egg but their bowls all come with 1/2. Tried Fun Bowl on both its ribbon day and official opening day. Fun Bowl is owned by the same Chinese owners as Nikki Sushi. There are indoor 5 medium-large wooden bench tables, 2 small tables that fit 2 people, and some seating by the kitchen. There is no outdoor seating. You place your order at the cashier. On ribbon day they provided samples of the Tonkotsu Ramen and Ahi tuna poke bowl. The Ahi tuna poke bowl was good-the ahi tuna was fresh and the homemade poke dressing sauce was addicting. On their opening day, I tried the Spicy Kimchi Ramen ($11.95). All of the ramen use the same meat-based broth of chicken, pork, as well as vegetables. So the Spicy Kimchi Ramen is basically the same as the Tonkotsu Ramen, except it has kimchi instead of chili paste. There are extra toppings for an additional price you can add to your ramen. You have an option to choose your meat as either chashu pork belly or Berkshire pork belly. I chose chashu-it had a nice salty flavor and was tender. They make their noodles from scratch using a machine to cut the noodles. You can see it in action in the front of the restaurant. They were cooked well- tender and chewy. The ramen is supposed to have bok choy, woodear mushrooms, kimchi, bamboo shoots, and a piece of seaweed. There were barely any bok choy. Boiled egg wasn't advertised but I found half of a soft boiled egg on the bottom of my bowl. The addition of boiled egg was probably a mistake. It would have been nice to have the egg on top of the soup instead of it continuing to cook in the hot soup and to avoid the precious egg yolk sliding into the soup. The soft boiled egg was marinated and had a good soy sauce and mirin flavor. The spicy kimchi ramen is really not that spicy (unless you're really sensitive). The broth does have a good umami flavor, but I have tasted better. It just doesn't taste as rich and creamy. That being said, with the lack of good Asian food in Wilmington, this is pretty good ramen. Probably will visit again the next time I have a ramen craving. The to-go container for the ramen was cute looking but flimsy. The top came off pretty easily while transporting it home and some of the broth spilled out. So be careful if you're getting it to-go. read more
