Wow what am amazing little ramen spot! You get a great amount of food for the price and everything came out piping hot (as in everything seemed to be cooked right then and fresh)! Our server was super attentive and accommodated to every need we had! I ordered the kimchi, edamame and a soup broth (I'm on a diet so I couldn't really get a bowl) but they were all huge portions than what I expected so that was nice. The place is new so I can see they've got some kinks to work out. The service is a little weird. The hostess kinda just walks around the store and gives instructions as you walk in. You're handed a big, floppy menu and told all about their seating and ordering as customers and servers with food are breezing past you. They encourage family style eating, but the two largest tables only seat 6. We sat at the last table available, which sat 4, but when we started eating, a group of 4 asked us politely if we could move to an open table that seated 2. We watched as people came and went and it does all seem a bit chaotic. The drink station is in a corner next to the line to order, get some claustrophobia goin there. I did like the atmosphere/decor/seats and I did enjoy my bowl of ramen, despite not being the biggest fan of this style of food. Food came out real fast. This is my go to Uber eats order!! Real authentic or good ramen can be really hard to find unless you're in a big city. However, fun bowl has become my go-to ramen spot. It's always consistent and it's not over priced like most ramen has become after it became "trendy". The pork is cooked to perfection and so flavorful.. but THE EGG! uh the egg. It is the best part of the whole bowl. It comes with half an egg but I always get a whole egg (try this you won't be disappointed). The corn is sweet, there's plenty of mushrooms, and there's always a good amount of noodles. I get nervous about to-go orders because I feel like restaurants try to give you less BUT that's not the case here. I'm always full and super satisfied after a meal here! 10/10 recommend! Pretty happy Wilmington finally got a ramen place. They definitely had some kinks to work out, but pretty good. The broth with the spicy chili was great and had chicken instead of the pork. The noodles were ok and their portions are good. They received a 4 star because they ended up messing up my friends order and gave her salad instead of rice for her poke bowl and also they mixed up my broth and my friends broth, but was able just to add the chili sauce to it. We were in town for the annual brewfest and had eaten at Fun Bowl last year. The food was so good that we wanted to make sure we returned again this year. However, it was a disappointment this trip. The noodle bowls were all noodles and broth with minimal other ingredients (chicken, vegetables, etc.). Also, when we arrived the restaurant smelled like burnt oil making eating much less palatable. Legit. Started with the Best calamari I've ever had. We also got steamed dumplings and spring rolls. Hot, perfectly done, and the dipping sauces were on point. With 3 of us sharing we asked if they could cut the spring rolls for us and they happily did so. I got the Tuna poke bowl. Holy cow it was incredibly flavorful! The wife and kids got Ramen and I think they tried to lick the bottom of the bowl. I didn't see them since I was doing the same with my poke bowl. Wife had an egg allergy, but the gluten-free noodles don't have egg, and she was able to customize her soup with no egg. The customer service was great. But the Service sucks I dislike the fact that the times that I went there to place my order the waitress taking the order doesn't understand or speak any English for me it would help if someone there spoke English I would use my translator app but don't know what language they speak. My son got the fun bowl, I got the spicy kimchi with chicken and shrimp and my husband got the miso bowl with pork belly. The ramen was to die for. Me and my sister were visiting wilmington from out of town and we found Fun Bowl. We both had poke bowls and my sister had the combination salmon and tuna and they were both delicious, generous proportions. The fish was sushi grade and very fresh and all the ingredients were impeccable abs yummy. Plus we got to try two great sauces to accompany our bowls. We met the owner Johnny and he is a Master Chef. This is my second experience with Fun Bowl. First was just after they opened. I was soooo excited to have a ramen restaurant open. It is not a large dining room , but the staff is friendly and they adjust very quickly to the variable numbers. Food the first time was pretty good. Waaaay too oily for my taste though so I wasn't the biggest fan. Fast forward to tonight. It is cold and rainy (I haven't been warm for two days) and my 1 year old has had a fever all day. Sadly had to cancel my dinner plans with the hubs and his family to stay home and take care of the little one (was super bummed but I wouldn't have changed a thing about my decision). Update: In the 5 times I have been to Fun Bowl, each time has been different. The time before last was the best. It was so good. My most recent visit was the worst. I never send food back or complain but I should have said something. There was a half inch of rendered fat floating on top of my bowl. My first spoonful was almost all fat and oil. I also noticed there were garnishes missing from my bowl compared to previous visits. I ended up skimming off as much fat as I could to get to the broth, and finally just gave up. This is the first time I left without finishing my bowl. I felt like I had eaten pure fat (not a good feeling). I don't know if the manager wasn't working tonight or what but the quality has gone way down. I hope I can convince my wife that Fun Bowl is worth another try. Original Review: I was so excited when I heard a noodle shop was opening in Wilmington. My favorite thing about traveling to big cities is hitting all the ramen bowls and dumpling houses. I have been eating ramen for quite a while now so I consider myself an expert taster! When you first walk into Fun Bowl you pass by a worker diligently making noodles from scratch. It is mesmerizing, but I was there for the food! First thing you do is walk to the counter and get a menu, and you are told to pick out a table, then come back up and order. This was a bit strange to me, but I went with it. I find a table and sit for like 1 minute and decide to get the Spicy Tonkosu Ramen. Then I walk back to the counter (hoping no one would take my table) and order, pay, get my drink, and sit back down. A few minutes later my bowl comes out. It's piled high with bamboo shoots, mushrooms, some kind of thin red garnish, a soft boiled egg and some other ramen staples. Best of all the broth is milky white and piping hot. My only minor complaint is the amount of chili oil in my bowl. It was like a layer of oil on the broth. I would have preferred the oil on the side. So I sat and happily ate my bowl of ramen. It was so spicy and yummy!!! I don't know if it was truly amazing or I was just excited to eat a real bowl of ramen with out having to get on a plane, but I left very very happy. Overall I would give FunBowl 4.5 stars. Only minus .5 stars for the strange service and a bit to much oil, but i'm rounding up to 5 for being the first noodle shop in town!! If you are looking for traditional ramen, fun bowl is the place! The atmosphere was fun, the staff is friendly, and the food was great. I tried the poke bowl and ramen. I am a huge traditional Hawaiian poke bowl fan, and fun bowl put a bit of a different spin on it. I would recommend the ramen over the poke, but I would not rule out trying both.
