It was very difficult to go past the non-existent service. We had to ask for someone every single time we needed anything at all. We had to ask to order drinks, we had to ask where they were, we had to ask to order another drink, we had to ask to have the table cleared, we had to ask for the dessert menu, we didn't have to wait to ask to order dessert because we gave up at that stage but we did have to ask for the bill. We didn't bother asking to pay, we went to the front counter but we did ask to have the "discretionary" service fee of 12.5% removed. They weren't that busy as not all tables were filled, seemed to have plenty of staff and really weren't turning tables over. The staff were just buzzing around doing goodness knows what. There were three people at the front counter busily looking at the screen but not doing much else. The maître d' commented that they were inexperienced but then where was the restaurant manager guiding them? Why couldn't he have been doing that rather than standing doing next to nothing? I will say that they were all very friendly and pleasant, every time we had waited too long and had to call them over. No, we were not impatient at all, we were there for about 1.5 hours for just 4 dishes and a drink each. Funny moment, the table was set for four but despite us having booked for two, they did not take two table sets away. Between wine and water glasses and with the drinks we ordered, we had twelve glasses on the table! The waiter had trouble putting food on the table but it didn't occur to him to ask someone to clear it first. The food was reasonably tasty, not amazing but not too bad. It was the little things that prevented it from being much better. Incidentally, the Lobster ravioli in lobster bisque was not a bisque it was a thick sauce. We have been to this resturant twice now and the first time was good but the second time was terrible. We were lost in the shuffle and the quality of food was bad. Tagliatelle with Bolognese was basically tomato sauce out of a can - awful! Don't bother coming here. They must have a deal with all the hotels because there are a ton of Americans here. A relative of one of my favourite Italian restaurant, Fumo did not disappoint. The food was overall solid, served in its unique tapas style portions but tasty nonetheless. Our starters of scallops, mussels and octopus were all mouth watering, and my main of spaghetti vongole was also very good. My friend also enjoyed all of his dishes. Service was overall great. The servers were helpful and prompt, though it did get quite busy at times. Ambience was similar to its relative restaurant. Modern and simple, yet sophisticated, it was just my type of place. We needed a spot to eat on our first night in London with jet lagged kids and went here on the advice of our concierge. I am glad we did. I would rate this place 3.5 stars. It has a cool atmosphere. Definitely an "adult" vibe (i think we had the only kids in the place) but not in a snooty way - we were made to feel right at home. The waitstaff proactively offered to put in the kids' order right away as I'm sure our waiter could see they were tired. The noise level is suitably "buzzy" that no one would notice if kids get to talking a little loud or get a tiny bit squirmy, but i wouldn't recommend it for very young kids who may be more unpredictable. The food was good but not great. The staff was gracious and accommodating, with one or two oversights (we never got our water, despite asking prob 5 times). Would give a solid 4 stars if not for the water issue. read more

My husband and I just spent the evening at Fumo and this was our best meal since we arrived in London. The service was spectacular (I cannot say enough), and the food and wine were scrumptious! We could not have had a better meal for sure. What a way to spend our last evening in London...such a beautiful city. We didn't book a table but we just had to wait for 5min to get one. We are French but we love Italian food and so London ! We felt like home in this lovely place where you just order several plates for sharing with others. It was absolutely delicious, with good wine, multiples choices and good prices ! The best food I've ever had in London!!!!! I loved Fumo so much I ate there two nights in a row. Beautiful decor with an amazing staff, it's great for large groups & solo diners. Their specialty is small plates and they have extensive choices in every category. The first night I started with Bruschetta for an appetizer & chose Tagliolino Venezia alle Vongole (baby clams in a white wine & garlic sauce) then added Gamberoni (grilled Sicilian prawns in picante sauce). The Chardonnay my waiter Vito suggested complimented my dinner perfectly!!! I was too full to have dessert soooo i had to go a second night lol. I started night 2 with olives & tapenade served with some lovely homemade cheese crisps, for my main course I had the short ribs I had seen on my first visit & they were cooked to perfection, served on a bed of steamed spinach paired with a nice cabernet. Dessert was classic tiramisu & bombardino espresso. There's about 5 more dishes I can't wait to try on my next visit to London read more

How terribly disappointing. I came here because it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the world, about two years ago. Used to have great food and great service, and I would come here to eat 3/4 nights of my business trip. Today was utter garbage. I sat at the bar to a cold welcome, questioning me if "everything was ok," which was weird because I am staying at a hotel next door and just wanted to get some dinner, so not exactly welcoming. Ordered some steak medium rare that took a very long time to arrive (everyone who ordered after me got their food first) and when it came they delivered it as "steak medallion, medium rare". It was overcooked, however -- well done. Sent it back without a hassle and the waiter came back to the bar, with no mention of what was happening with it. Insincere apology. No idea of how much longer I should be waiting so I canceled it and paid and got the hell out. They still got my £30 for the wine and small pasta dish. I even called and spoke with the manager and they didn't care enough to do anything. Never again will I visit Fumo. This place really sucks. Too much unnecessary attitude. What happened in two years' time?!? read more

The concierge at Zumo was very disdainful and disrespected us. We were sent there by the concierge from our hotel the Trafalgar..we will not eat there if they treated us to a free dinner. Nobody should have to be offended in a restaurant or any other place. We are going there because we want and we can afford it..when employees pass judgement on customer without enough information , that is prejudice and is arrogant. I give them 0 points for hospitality and good will.. nobody really has to eat there.. instead we went to Allegra across the street on the opposite end of the street. This was our best meal in London so far. It serves smaller dishes, so we ordered bread, pizza, sea bass, broccoli, and fish stew for the two of us plus pasta for our kids. The food here is underwhelming to say the least. Lacks flavor, seafood is not fresh, lamb is rubbery and over cooked. But what was worst that the food was the SERVICE. our server was inattentive and didn't even bring out water or all of the items we ordered! Do not recommend. I went in attracted by the ambiance, but very soon after we settled in got surprised by the very high noise that made even difficult to have a conversation. The service was less than desirable with our hostess was not very welcoming to questions and looked annoyed when we asked. It took a long time to even get water. Eventually we selected items from the menu, she explained that some of the menu items were tapas. After more than 40 minutes wait for our dishes, i realized my tapas was too small, so I was going to be left hungry but did not want to wait another 20 minutes for the waiter plus 30 minutes for the dish. Where do I start, the worst service ever, so disorganised. The people on the next table had most of their dishes before ours, and they arrived half an hour after us. The food was cold and average, and we had to wait over an hour for the last 2 dishes. And we were also given someone else's order! There was no apology for the wait and they also had the nerve to keep all the money given, thinking it was a tip! Here's a tip.... train your staff!! NO I do not recommend this place. We went here for dinner tonight and I would not recommend this place to an enemy. We gave our names and were told to return in 40 minutes. We took a walk and returned 35 minutes later. A very nice young woman started to seat us and was stopped by the arrogant hostess. She was so rude to the young woman, reprimanding her in front of us and everyone nearby. What a rude person and she made us feel very uncomfortable. When we were finally seated, I asked the waiter to please bring me a glass of water as I needed to take some medication asap. That was it. Nearly 20 minutes went by and no water, no waiter, nothing. I stared at the employees to get someone's attention and finally the waiter came by. I asked for the water again and we ordered several "Tapas" style small plates to taste different things. They got our order wrong but I was getting disgusted and didnt want to bother. The food was not good at all. The eggplant dish was so tough that I couldnt even cut it with a knife. The bruschetta bread was soggy and the one had mushrooms that were so tough that they kept lodging into my teeth. After the food came, we never saw a waiter again, just completely ignored. We visited London just for four days. We had lunch there two times. Their pasta was freshly made. Each dish we ordered was expertly prepared, perfectly cooked and simply delicious. After leaving the theater, we found this restaurant and thought it looked really good. Didnt find out until we were sitting down that it was tapas but with Italian food (which goes against everything you know about italian food). The server that we had wasnt very nice, he didnt really have a personality, just very monotone. We first asked for the fried calamari. It was like the oil wasnt hot enough because the breading was greasy and soggy, rather than light and crispy. We asked our server if we could have some marinara to dip it in and he had no idea what marinara was.... granted, i know traditionally you dont dip calamari in marinara, but they should at least know what it is. We asked for the fillet medallions, cooked medium, and when it came, it was just one small mediocre piece of meat that was so raw, it was almost still moving. We had a couple more plates, but those two really put the cherry on top. After that, we just really wanted to pay and go find another restaurant before they all closed. read more
