I came to the library to learn details about the local courthouse. Scott, in the Reference section of the library, spent a great deal of time helping look up information in files and older local history books. He found most of the information that I needed. We also talked about the history of the library. He pointed me to a timeline on their Web site. Logansport has had a library since 1890. They've had several structures, including a limestone Carnegie funded structure. After a fire destroyed that structure in 1941, a newer structure was built. Renovations and additions over the years have led to the current library. The library has a nice reading room with a fireplace and lovely paintings by Hoosier artists. On the first floor is a children's area with a reading room that was filled with kids. There was a very small play area, but for the most part, books are the primary stars in this library. Lots of natural light enters the building. The reference area, pubic computers, and study areas are upstairs. The staff is friendly, helpful and dedicated. I left with maps and I formation and old photographs. There is dedicated parking lot on the east side on the building.

Asked one of the ladies who worked there to assist with a series I was interested in and the final season was unavailable. I asked if there was a way to possibly request the item from another local library "because in the town I came from we had 3 libraries and they worked collectively together." She began to argue with me on whether or not the season was complete or not! Once I reported her attitude to the front desk lady she giggled as if this was acceptable. Very displeased with the customer service and how making a new member feel ignorant for asking a simple question is acceptable. On a positive note however if you are looking for impeccable customer service ask any of the gentleman or the one young lady with glasses up front! They are absolutely pleasant and always helpful with trying to help you locate what items your looking for.

I come here nearly every weekend. I've only been on Saturday and Sunday so I can't comment about…read morethe weekdays, but if you're looking for an easy place to park without a lot of traffic I suggest visiting on Sunday. Just be careful in the parking lot, it's small and no one really seems to pay close attention to their surroundings-I've had a few near misses. Also be aware that on the weekends there's typically one or two homeless people out front. They've never been a problem but if you're uncomfortable about that sort of thing consider this your warning. The main branch is where I typically go. I usually request a few books to pick up and then browse while I'm there. I've never had a problem checking out or waiting in line etc. The staff is friendly enough, not very outgoing in my experience, but friendly and knowledgeable whenever I've interacted with the staff.

Everyone that knows me knows that I am a nerd. I've always loved reading and I will always love…read morereading. Something about cracking open a good book gives me the same kind of high that others get from running or smoking crack. I might be biased because the Kouts Public Library is where I really learned to develop my love for reading but I think it is one of the best libraries that I have ever been inside. Granted, it will never be as awe-striking as the San Francisco Public Library (where City of Angels was filmed) or the Los Angeles Public Library which is story after story (no pun intended) of wonderment. It is, however, exactly what a library should be. It's filled with areas to sit and read. It's full of light. And it's a beautiful structure. Oh, and it has books. It has book after glorious book. It even has the Real Food Daily (see review) Cookbook which is amazing. Support your public library. Trust me. You never know what you have until it's gone. And when I lived in San Luis Obispo, California, I realized that not everyone in the world is blessed with a bountiful library.
