My only problem with this library was that it really didn't have the historical records, etc…read moreorganized or easily available. Nor was someone able to help me that day. I was sent to their Historical Society which was fun but didn't have a very good resource for historical buildings in the area. SO they sent me to Central Library in Indpls. which was where I came from to begin with. They sent me back to Indpls and the Historical Society there opened my world up with Sanborn maps. They in turn sent me to the State Library and then found the name of the company I was looking for through addresses from the maps. After that Google had what I needed. I basically bought the state wide library card for no reason that year....

The library in Logansport is part of the Cass County Public Library system. The building is…read morerelatively modern. The staff is remarkably helpful. I came to the library to learn details about the local courthouse. Scott, in the Reference section of the library, spent a great deal of time helping look up information in files and older local history books. He found most of the information that I needed. We also talked about the history of the library. He pointed me to a timeline on their Web site. Logansport has had a library since 1890. They've had several structures, including a limestone Carnegie funded structure. After a fire destroyed that structure in 1941, a newer structure was built. Renovations and additions over the years have led to the current library. The library has a nice reading room with a fireplace and lovely paintings by Hoosier artists. On the first floor is a children's area with a reading room that was filled with kids. There was a very small play area, but for the most part, books are the primary stars in this library. Lots of natural light enters the building. The reference area, pubic computers, and study areas are upstairs. The staff is friendly, helpful and dedicated. I left with maps and I formation and old photographs. There is dedicated parking lot on the east side on the building.

They have a bit more selection here than some of the other TCPL locations. The furniture and atmosphere is a bit dated and could use some updating to make it appear more modern. Overall, a library exactly as you would expect.

This library was such a hidden gem! I drove here expecting a small library with a limited…read morechildren's section, but I left completely amazed. The children's department was incredible--so many books for little readers, fun activity stations, and the friendliest staff. It was such a welcoming space, and my girls had the best time exploring. It was my first time visiting this town, and I definitely wasn't expecting a library this impressive. Safe to say we'll be making the drive back!

And of course, lots of books for adults, children and teens with quiet places to sit and read. The facility got its start from a Carnegie grant totally $22,500. The original limestone building opened in 1906. Today, some of the original Carnegie stairway, scrollwork and leaded glass windows can be seen in the Children's area. In 1988, a significant expansion added square feet, improved accessibility and modernized the former library. Each section of the library is named for a benefactor that provided funding. There's a sense of community pride throughout the facility. I took my granddaughter and she spent an hour playing and exploring in the children's area. The staff even provided take home project kits for her. She also bought a book in their resale shop. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. There is free street parking in front of the building. Worth a visit if you like libraries and architecture.

The building is new and modern, but from the height of it, I assumed there was a second floor. No, it's just a vaulted ceiling which I find a waste of space, especially for a library where I want every space filled and brimming with books. Inside, it's airy and sectioned well. There is a computer area with printers that cost per page to print. The wifi is free. The librarians are older women who are not comfortable or familar with computers because it took me over half an hour to get a library card. It's not enough to have an out-of-state drivers license and your week old, closing documents for your new house in Monticello to speed-up the process of getting a library card. The librarians are also not personable, have no sense of humor, and do not appreciate other's time constraints. I thought I was at the DMV. What is the point of leaving a review for an institution geared towards public service? The hope that someone reads it who can improve the public service.
