Here I attended a genealogy presentation. It cost me nothing, it started on time, and I learned a lot from the knowledgeable presenter. I feel interested in learning more about the Genealogy Center's international collection of physical and digital resources and free access to databases.

I was challenged to confirm that an ancestor was the granddaughter of a Rev. War veteran. After weeks of searching, I wasn't having any luck to find acceptable docs and my mentor in the DAR is fantastic but this stumped her too. Census rolls and marriage licenses weren't enough. I met with Jeff Garver, a genealogist at the Allen County Public Library. Before my arrival, he had already done some research and he provided much help, but we still needed definitive proof of the lineage. Then he suggested checking an 1800s "Deed Book" from Monroe County, where my ancestors primarily lived. In the book, Jeff found a deed written by the parents of my 3rd Great-grandmother where they sold property to their daughter. The deed document is witnessed and signed by the magistrate of the time and clearly identifies the parents of my ancestor (of whom both respective fathers fought in the Rev. War) as their daughter. It was like bells went off, and hopefully the final piece of the puzzle for my DAR application. I never would have thought of looking at deeds and now know why the Allen County Public Library and its Genealogy Dept. are so highly regarded. Am so appreciative to have such an excellent research source in Indiana with equally excellent professionals. Everyone in the genealogy section was highly trained and helpful - special kudos to Jeff Garner.

They have a large book & CD collection, a big genealogy section (even includes some ref's on my home state of NJ), and LOTS of kid areas and activity. The books are relatively new and current. I was originally thinking it'd be mostly a means of getting inter-library loan books, but turns out it's amazing! They even have a "food" area up front so you can bring lunch or celebrate a birthday. The library in Logansport is part of the Cass County Public Library system. The building is…read morerelatively modern. The staff is remarkably helpful. I came to the library to learn details about the local courthouse. Scott, in the Reference section of the library, spent a great deal of time helping look up information in files and older local history books. He found most of the information that I needed. We also talked about the history of the library. He pointed me to a timeline on their Web site. Logansport has had a library since 1890. They've had several structures, including a limestone Carnegie funded structure. After a fire destroyed that structure in 1941, a newer structure was built. Renovations and additions over the years have led to the current library. The library has a nice reading room with a fireplace and lovely paintings by Hoosier artists. On the first floor is a children's area with a reading room that was filled with kids. There was a very small play area, but for the most part, books are the primary stars in this library. Lots of natural light enters the building. The reference area, pubic computers, and study areas are upstairs. The staff is friendly, helpful and dedicated. I left with maps and I formation and old photographs. There is dedicated parking lot on the east side on the building.

A drive up up book drop off is offered on the parking lot side. The library floor plan is on the smaller side, but still has many volumes including a Children's area. The building was renovated 25 years ago and still looks great! I would recommend a visit.

I stumbled upon the Carnegie Library while walking around downtown Muncie. I love visiting…read morelibraries when I'm in a new area, so I popped in with alacrity. First: It's oh-so quiet in this library. This is a nice place to just exist in silence. That said, this isn't your regular public library, with story times and such. This is a specialty library, and it's more like a repository for old things: old books, archives, vintage catalogues, genealogy information, local history and things like that. But they also have computers that you can use for free, and free wifi, and printers if you need to print something. I'm not from Indiana, so the ancestry records have nothing to do with me. But I think that's cool that if you grew up in Indiana, or have relatives from this state, that you might be able to find out some interesting information about yourself here. The people who work here look ready to help, but ultimately, they leave you the eff alone, which is nice. I got zero greetings, which is the exact number of greetings I wanted from a small, quiet library.

You can email to the printer and as long as you pick up your document within two hours it will be there for you to get. The librarians Are so very helpful I have never been disappointed when I have ask a question. Neither have I been embarrassed to ask something that I probably should've already known. The very best part of this library is that once you get a card you can go online and download an app called Hoopla. With that you can do video streaming you can get e-books you can get audiobooks the only limit or is it's only 10 items a calendar month. And oh by the way if you happen to be home bound they will come to you and assist with access to their resources.
