As a first-time visitor of this library, the librarian at the checkout desk was super friendly and helpful. She gave me a rundown of the library and let me know where the rooms were that I could use for studying. She greeted me before I greeted her, as well as the few of the other employees there. This library is huge, and beautiful. there is even a fireplace area where you can sit and read. And a teen area specifically for teens to study or check out books. as well as a children's area and several meeting rooms. The best feature for me was the semi-private, individual study rooms. These are first come first serve and can seat up to four people. I will be back again!

I have spent many an hour in the Pendleton Library doing family genealogy research and borrowing…read moretheir computers to print labels and make copies of pertinent information. I am not able to check anything out because I don't live in the area . For such a small library they have quite a few books in the room that caters to genealogy and lots of old newspapers on file so I found a lot of interesting information about the area and more specifically about my relatives. I was able to trace my family back five generations and found ancestors buried in several cemeteries in the area. I look forward to coming back to the library when I travel back to Indiana again. Note: Unless it's changed, they charged $3 to use their computers compared to the Anderson Library which was free. My only disappointment with them is that in 2007 when my mother passed away I decided to make $100 donation to the library in her name because she was always such an avid reader and probably taught me my love of reading and this was her hometown. When I sent the check I specifically asked them to send me an acknowledgement that they had received it but I never received anything. When I was there in person I asked them if they had any way of checking that they received the money which would have been about a year earlier and they were able to check that and verify that it was received. I had found a thank you letter in my mother's papers for a check she had sent to them after my uncle, her brother, passed away and that was what gave me the idea of making the donation in her name. It just would have been nice to have that acknowledgement.

As someone who has traveled all over the state by wheelchair, I have a special fondness for these…read moretowns and cities reviews. While I'm not a huge fan of actually "rating" a city or town, it's a great opportunity to talk about the many wonderful places in Indiana. I've been to Anderson a few times during my wheeling. I've also been for church and work events. Anderson is the seat of Madison County and has a population just under 55,000. As most know, Anderson was once an industrial hotbed and has at various times hosted the manufacturing of 17 different vehicles. While auto manufacturing really gave the city its fame, as that industry has declined in the area so has Anderson economically. Thomas Broderick Jr. has been the Anderson mayor since 2016. Major attractions include the lovely Paramount Theatre, Mounds State Park, Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, concerts at Reardon Auditorium (Anderson University), and a few other museums and such. The Church of God is based here in Anderson. I have friends who live here, however, I'll admit that I don't really find Anderson to be a true "destination" city. While I'd easily do a day trip here, I'd be hard-pressed to make it a weekend getaway. The city is fairly accessible, though it's worth noting that downtown is a historic landmark. There are hotels/motels here, the curb cuts are decent, and I've generally found the people friendly here. I recently visited the Paramount again and it's definitely a downtown highlight with its historic marquee and incredible auditorium that was looking even better than remembered the last time I was in Anderson. Overall, I'd call Anderson a bit of a hidden gem. It has a few fun touristy spots, lots of nature, the remnants of its industrial past, some cool museums, and a growing restaurant scene. While I wouldn't necessarily call it a destination spot, a trip to Anderson, Elwood, and other small towns in Madison County could easily be worth a weekend.

From a…read moresmall park in the downtown area, I saw a mural, lovely fountain with backdrops of amazing and historic architecture. An iconic theater is alone Jackson Street. The area appears to be a host to downtown festivities. Unfortunately, the Historical Society was not opened during my Thursday morning visit. I would have liked to have learned more about the city and see if there is a walking tour. I was also disappointed that no restaurants were opened in the downtown area around noon time. There's plenty of free street parking but limited restroom options. I will return to learn more and report back.

This is the oldest Civil War monument in the entire state of Indiana! It is second in height only to its namesake in Indy. I also like that there are plaques about how the monument was funded and who the artist was that contributed the bronze work. Lorado Taft was a famous sculptor from Illinois who completed these numerous bronzes in 1892. There are four corner figures including Artillery, Navy, Cavalry, and Infantry. There is a flag bearer positioned on the top. There also is an encircling bronze ring above the base that is an action diorama. The monument was designed by Indy architect A A McKain. The courts of Delaware County have moved around quit a bit over the years to accommodate the 15th…read moreJudicial District's growing caseload. This new center opened in 2020 and houses clerks, five courtrooms and even a prison that can hold around 500 inmates. Prosecutors and the Sheriff's offices are also located in the sprawling campus. This complex is the sixth location to house the Delaware County Courts since 1829. I was told by a deputy, that the current building was originally a school that was converted to courts, rehab center and more. RQAW Corporation of Indianapolis designed the brick center. The location is quite different from most Indiana courthouses, which prominently stand on a square centrally located in a town. This 2020 Delaware structure sits a couple miles southeast of Muncie surrounded by cornfields. I did not go inside as it was raining and the building didn't fulfill my need as inspiring, historical architecture. In retrospect, I wish I had entered to seek historical provenance and engage with staff. There is parking in front of the facility.
