The Whispering Shelf has become my go-to Indianapolis bookstore! They're in the cutest spot in…read moreLockerbie and have a little bit of everything in their inventory, with an excellent children's book section. They also have a great selection of gorgeous coffee table books, cookbooks, and various paper goods (notebooks, planners, etc). I love the written staff descriptions and recommendations throughout the shelves - they're happy to chat and give you a recommendation for whatever you're looking for as well. They also have a featured shelf with books that have upcoming book club discussions planned! I love the way The Whispering Shelf encourages community building and am so glad to have them in Indy. Happy reading!

Talk about the dreamiest bookstore. I'm embarrassed it took me so long to finally pop in. We were…read morehaving a fall neighborhood stroll in the Lockerbie Square district this rainy fall past weekend and popped in here to check things out. What a treasure chest! The Whispering Shelf features a fabulous assortment of stationery/ cards, gifts, books with handwritten recommendations (always a sucker for these little personal touches from a bookstore) and an expensive children's section. I was especially enamored by the children's section and display. There were several interactive elements to keep kids busy while you peruse the shelves (smart!). They offer a variety of events throughout the month for book clubs, storytime and more. Can't wait for more future visits and to do our Christmas shopping here!

As you meander through the maze of shelving, you find every genre you could want, from mystery and fantasy to travel and politics to children and YA. They even have a hidden Harry Potter room under the stairs and a Sherlock Holmes reading room in the back. What a great place. The owners are accommodating, friendly, and smart, and the books are always priced at a bargain. Must visit!

I was charmed by this bookstore and regret that I didn't have more time to spend here. But I plan…read moreto be back very soon and give myself at least an hour. The decor is old school and soothing and the different genres are marked on the outside of the shelves. I was disappointed to not see a dedicated area for horror/weird fiction. I enquired about Lovecraft and the very helpful male staff member told me nothing was in at the moment. He directed me to fantasy/science fiction and I did find a book to my liking. He also found me a small collection of Poe which I also secured for my library. I was also advised that I can let them know of books or authors that I'm seeking and they would let me know if anything comes in. The store is big so I know there is much more for me to explore next visit and they have several cozy sitting areas where you can just read, or have a cup of tea as well. I am looking forward to visiting again soon and updating.

My daughter sent me a second electronic gift card to spend on a book. So this trip was not my first…read morerodeo. I decided to go by the Noblesville, IN, location since I live nearby and browse the books. I found one that was really good. I take it to the front desk and walk to the first guy available. He rudely says I need to go to the other cashier who was already busy with another customer. I'm like OK. So when the other cashier was done and I told her that I wanted to purchase this book with a gift card; that's when I was forced into Barnes & Noble hell. The cashier apparently knew nothing about B&N policies, their gift card program, or even good customer service! Rather than go into specifics, this cashier tells me I could not use the gift card IN the store but had to use it ONLINE! I'm like what? You mean to tell me I have the book I want in my hand but I've got to go online to order it and pay shipping fees? She says yes and I thought she was absolutely nuts! It didn't make sense. So I press on telling this cashier I've done it before! She insists I couldn't use it in-store! I thought instantly my poor daughter who sent me the card was doing something nice for her dad and look at this stupidity! The cashier then consults the other rude cashier and he says thee same thing and I slam the book down and tell them I will NEVER shop at Barnes & Nobles again! The I call customer service for B&N and who do I get? Some Filipino 8000 miles away! I go home and do my research and nowhere on the B&N website does it say a customer can only use a gift card online. My experience at B&N changed my entire day! But while I'm on the subject of negative impressions of B&N, this new location is much smaller and there is a serious lack of place to sit and peruse the books! The chairs that are available are like those at the airport. Don't get up for a moment because someone is waiting and will take your seat since they are a hot commodity there! Also why is there a lack of technology magazines like the ones B&N used to carry? The magazine selection looks like the ones that used to be at CVS and other pharmacies! I will most certainly go ONLINE in the future to get my books. There are choices like Thriftbooks and Amazon available for my book buying rather than subject myself to the tyranny and very poor customer service of B&N.

Love the new look!! Easy to find what you are looking for and very accessible. The staff are…read moreknowledgeable and friendly. I really like that there is a focus on books instead of toys and drinks. Big improvement!!
