I went into Red Door to pick up a pair of gloves for my mom for Christmas. She has Raynaud's…read moredisease, and her fingertips turn white when they get cold. I figured the best place to check out gloves would be a ski shop. The store is set up in a way that makes it fairly easy to navigate. I didn't have to search hard to find what I wanted. While I was looking at the children's gloves (my mom has small hands), Kaley asked if I needed any help. I told her I was buying gloves for my elderly mother who has Raynaud's disease, and that I thought the Gortex ones I found in the children's department would be great, but that I would also like to see a balaclava for Mom. Kaley explained that the Gortex gloves I chose were a nice and warm choice, but wondered if I'd like to consider another glove that she said was popular with a lot of others with Raynaud's disease. She said the Size Small in ladies was pretty small, so maybe it would suitable for my mom. I was impressed she knew what Raynaud's disease was and could point me toward a glove others with the problem were purchasing. I took her up on her suggestion, as she explained that after Christmas, Mom could exchange it for something else if this one didn't fit the bill. She also showed me a balaclava that would be great for my mom. The store was clean, the customer service fantastic, and the exit area kept very warm thanks to a portable heater they keep there as a service to customers. I'm not someone who skis or snowboards, but when it comes to warm winter wear, I will be going back to make further purchases.

I've also dealt with Alyssa previously and she was wonderful to deal with. They're the only spot really to get your skis in Buffalo. Their prices are cheaper than online, which is kind of hard to do. I just had both of our pairs of skis, sharpen and waxed and they were great on the slopes. You're looking yfor ski equipment. This is a place to go.

Once I did track down one employee to help me find a ski helmet, he just ditched me in the midst of me trying the recommended product on! I ended up going with another helmet that I eventually found on my own. The Ski Company is lucky that I was in absolute need of purchasing a helmet that day, otherwise I would've left the store as quickly as that employee retreated to sitting on his phone! Unsurprisingly, this in-person customer service translates to over the phone, too. I had asked to speak with a specific employee who was tuning my skis, and was met with a "uh I don't think he's here today," only to find out later that he was indeed there after I called back and was placed on hold AGAIN. I've worked retail jobs and this is a huge no no and quite frankly just lazy! They do seem to have a large selection of discounted skis, though. Anyone who plays knows the comment on skate sharpening is ridiculous, but in case hockey isn't your thing and that review sours you to the store: everywhere does overnight skate sharpening. Usually someone comes in in the evening and sharpens all the skates collected for the day, and not necessarily the person who's working the store. I've never had my skates sharpened anywhere but a dedicated hockey store that will do it while you wait, it's standard.

Normally, I'd just order what I need and have it shipped. Today was something different. Loaded up the family and drove 90 minutes to go to the store in Ithaca. I was surprised that they had a tiny selection of paddling gear. The staff was unfriendly and inattentive at best, and the gentleman at the register had the personality of a wet fart. They expended zero you know whats to even acknowledge a customer. There's plenty of room for improvement. While I'm not done with REI, I'm good if I never go back to this location.

It has the same high quality products but seems very small and short in inventory compared to the REI stores I've been to elsewhere. What really blows my mind is this is in ITHACA whose signature activity is hiking AND SENECA LAKE and they have no kayaks or paddle boards or really anything related to water activities. I was absolutely shocked as I wanted to look at some of those items and there is nothing here. Dick's sporting goods in godforsaken Binghamton has more water activity items than REI. I truly hope this is a temporary issue they will rectify. Huge disappointment.

Lines weren't ridiculously long and felt well managed. We mostly hung out on the left side of the mountain where the more difficult greens and easier blues were and had a great time. The lodge had some good food that wasn't crazy expensive, and The Cannery over in the Sunset Lodge was perfect for some Apres Ski cocktails and beers. We will definitely come back to this mountain again!
