I loved Mike Ball Irrigation's response time, follow up and care they took with my landscape project. I spoke with approx. 4 other landscape services/designers in the Richmond area. This company was professional, answered all my questions and even suggested a few things to considered. They incorporated my vision of what I had in mind with their many years of experience in the landscape business/design. The lead foreman assured me "we are going to make it look really nice", and that is exactly what they did and more. The final transformation was amazing. They did a great job rerouting a few underground sprinkler lines in order for plants to get efficient watering levels. The crew was polite, cleaned up afterwards and worked very hard throughout the day to get their work done on schedule. I highly recommend using this company. I live in Del Webb in Richmond and I have noticed their company trucks many times since my project was complete. I also chked out their BBB rating and Google reviews before hiring them. I plan on having them back out before summer to freshen up mulch before the heat arrived again. BTW- My landscape was completed around the Christmas holidays and not a plant died! Thanks Mike Ball Irrigation and crew!! read more

They showed up when they said they would which is a victory. They fixed the cracked pipe in one day and the job is done.

I now have a beautiful backyard. He listened and he delivered! Large patio, sprinkler system and beautiful beds. He knows what he's doing and his pricing was more than fair. He and his crew have skills! read more

Mike put pavers and a fountain in our backyard. His team was really amazing. They kept the job site clean and Super respectful..

It's unfortunate that I have to leave this review because they actually did a good job on my backyard. I hired him to install artificial turf. He was more expensive than the three other quotes that I got but I went with him because he said his method was better than what the other guys offer. It was right before the freezes started. He told me that they had left my sprinkler system winter ready (draining and purging my sprinkler lines) so I took his word for it and didn't bother to drain my sprinkler lines myself as I do every year. When the freeze came some of my lines snapped as they were not properly drained. Once Mike (the owner) found out about it he refused to answer my calls. I emailed, texted, called and left several msgs and he never once called back. I had to hire a plumber to come replace the broken brass and replace some pvc pipes. This should have been warrantied but obviously it was not. Extremely poor customer service and definitely will not back up any of his work. Watch out with this guy, once he gets your money he's gone. read more

We used Mike Ball Irrigation to clean up the landscaping at our home and to fix a drainage issue in the front yard. The quote was in line with other quotes we received. Once they were able to start our project the work was done quickly. We deferred to Mike on picking low maintenance plants and it looks great! read more

I used Mike Ball Irrigation in the past with good results and I thought they were fair with their prices. But a recent experience I had was not what I expected. I had MBI perform some minor repairs and thinking I was getting competitive prices I requested a quote for more repairs and I was given a quote for $814. I thought that was too high so I sent the serviceman an email asking why the quote was so high but received no response. So I chose another reputable sprinkler service and the charge for essentially the same work was $538. That's $275 cheaper than Mike Ball Irrigation. The sprinkler parts would basically be the same so MBI's labor cost is much higher. That's a major difference, one I'm not willing to pay. read more

Mike Ball and his team once again did a great job on our outdoor kitchen, landscape lighting/additional stones and fire place wall. Everything went great from the beginning of the process of the design layout, meeting up to pick out material, and through out the project. Mike always provided great service and communication from start to finish. His crew and office also are top notch as well and went the extra mile to make certain that every step through the installation was meeting my expectations. Wife and I are very pleased and satisfied!!! FIVE STARS!!! We will continue working with Mike Ball and team on future projects. read more

Part way through this whole mess of a pandemic, I was walking through my yard and realized that a whole section of my grass was dying. I ran through the zones and found that one of them had just up and quit. I messaged Mike Ball Irrigation through Yelp, and they were quick to respond and set up a time for Angel to come out and take a look. I mentioned to him that we had some COVID concerns and I'd be wearing a mask, and he also masked up to keep our family safe! He was kind, responsive, and crazy efficient. In less than an hour he had replaced a valve and a tweaked a few other options to keep our yard as good as new! Will definitely call them again - thanks again for everything. read more

I messed up my front sprinklers on Sunday night with some amateur self-gardening. Luckily Mike Ball and Angel came to the rescue quickly and promptly Monday morning and fixed my issue. Angel was helpful and answered all my questions. Would call these guys again for any future needs! read more

During thee aftermath of the freeze, they provided quick response to my freeze damage.

I chose MBI because of their high rating on Yelp, but did not have a 5 star experience myself during our fair sized landscaping project with them this spring. Pros: The team did a great job with hardscaping. The used a subcontractor to install a beautiful cedar fence around our property and used their own crew to install a nice pergola in our back garden. They did a great job powerwashing all of the concrete and stone - looks like new. Cons: Much of their approved drainage, irrigation repairs/alterations, and landscaping had to be redone by a second vendor shortly after MBI completed their work. MBI left us with rotted sod - twice - that had to be removed along with 6" of soil underneath. The drainage system MBI left us with had to be dug out and a new system installed to properly clear rainwater from our back yard to the street. Irrigation installed by MBI added to our problem by putting even more water into the back yard and had to be removed and redone. Finally, topiary trees we'd had for 12 years were left misshapen by an MBI crew and had to be removed and replanted by another vendor. Overall, some parts of the job were great, but many things were not and required another vendor to fix. read more

We had an estimate for our irrigation system and decided we needed to update. I spoke to John at Mike Ball and they quickly set up a visit. They came this morning and Gave us a very reasonable bid for a new component. They installed the new system quickly and took the time to instruct my husband and myself on downloading the app as well as how to use the system. Anjel stayed while we tested out the system and made sure we were happy. He also told us that he would be happy to program the system for us. Thank you so much to everyone at Mike Ball irrigation! read more

Mike Ball irrigation was recommended by a friend. I called and spoke with John. John was careful to explain costs and policies so there'd be no surprises. Two days later, Angel came to repair our sprinkler system. He worked quickly, found the problem and promptly fixed it. I also asked for a general inspection of the system. That's the cue for most companies to start jacking up the price. Angel didn't bite. Made a few minor adjustments, replaced a drip head or two for better flow control and was gone in 1 1/2 hours. And there was some serious digging to get to my leaking pipe line. Very fair price. And I'm very satisfied with the work. I knocked off a star, because the appt was for 8:30-9am. Angel didn't arrive til after 10:45. Seems Mike decided to call a staff meeting. Hey, he's the boss. But knowing there was an appointment being delayed, someone should have called as a courtesy. read more

Great, timely service. No attempt to oversell what was needed, which I really appreciated. Very fairly priced as well.

Mike and his crew are top notch. They just landscaped our entire front and back yards, including adding sprinklers, pavers, fencing, and a retaining wall. Everything came out perfect, on budget, and on time. Mike is a straight shooter and a very responsive communicator. You won't be disappointed with these folks. A+. read more

These guys are amazing... Mike came out and made some fantastic suggestions during the bid process. he was about in the middle on price, but his reviews on Home Advisor were excellent. He was booked about 6 weeks out which is always good. they just finished the job today and I am amazed. the pavers look amazing. the french drains and sprinkler system are awesome. they even replaced sod that was slightly disturbed by the install. That amazed me as I have had many sprinkler systems installed and no one ever cared for my property like they did. The foreman, Angel, was awesome. He knows his stuff and they did an amazing clean-up to boot. I recommend them very highly!! They are on my permanent contractor list for all my rentals and my personal home. THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING!!! Hire them or be subject to second class work. these guys are the best! read more

Terrible communication! I used Mike Ball in 2015 and all was very satisfactory. I again recently used this business and I'm not sure what happened, but this business is the absolute worst at communication. Someone would tell me they were coming and they didn't show. I would request help on issues with the project itself and was ignored numerous times. I spent over $34,000 on this project and would not recommend Mike Ball irrigation and landscaping to anyone. read more

My front yard sprinkler broke down and was shooting water everywhere. It was a major waste of water on the street. I called Mike late at night and not only he called back, but he was able to squeeze me in next morning so my grass wouldn't continue to die from lack of water (I had to replace the grass earlier this summer bc it was all dead). The crew came by and fixed everything in a very short time. They were extremely professional. Thanks again for the awesome service and I definitely recommend them! read more

Requested lawn and sprinkler service. Someone took my request and promised that someone else would call back - never happened. Due to the good ratings, gave them another call 1-2 weeks later. Someone finally came to my house, inspected the area and gave me a quote. It was at least 2x more than 2 other quotes I got - a 5 digit number. Can't say anything about the job they do as I did not use them, but I can say that you need to shop around and be patient before you go with MBI. read more

I have used Mike and his crew twice now. They know their business and fix problems that leave me scratching my head. My system is 12 years old and installed with little rime or reason, they find the problems and repair them. Also I call my home the 2X home. When repair people pull up to my home, they take the normal charge and double it. Mike has always been fair with pricing. read more

Angel came out to repair a residential irrigation zone and diagnosed it and repaired it in about 10 minutes. Some companies might have indicated that it was more a more complicated repair and charged more, but he only charged the base inspection fee and fixed the problem on the spot. Highly recommended! Before we moved in to our current home, we had a company come in and sell us "their solution to our problems". After spending a lot of money with them, we still never used it -for almost 5 years. With two large dogs, poor drainage resulted in mud and dirt everywhere, we couldn't grow grass because of the dogs urine killing it (plus their scratching after doing their business). Due to a few large trees we couldn't even grow ground cover around the trees, resulting in more mud. For hardscapes, we had two different patio slabs and dated pavers. This spring I had three companies come look and quote a compete rework of the area. Mike came up with a useful design that looks gorgeous, is functional for both people and our dogs, completely solved the drainage issues! Beautiful pavers, artificial turf, limestone retaining walls for the trees and a garden area with landscape lighting and reworked sprinkler system! We LOVE our back yard now, and use it daily. Because his pricing was so good, I even had money left in the budget for his company to replace our old mailbox with a brick one with planting beds surrounding it. We get complements on both areas, and couldn't be happier with the quality of work his crews performed, and were happy to spend our money with a local business. read more

We recently purchased a home and inherited a rundown backyard that needed a complete overhaul. We called Mike to help us resolve a flooding problem where the yard was unleveled and also to create a yard that was functional and eye appealing. Mike was very friendly and knowledgeable about providing ideas that would fit into the layout we had in mind. In just a few days we were able to start seeing the amazing transformation. The crew was attentive to detail and it shows in the perfect stone patios we are now able to enjoy and the drainage basins now flush away excessive water that used to create sitting pools of water. Above all we enjoy the greenery from the sod and look forward to our son being able to play in the backyard now. We really appreciate the time and work that Mike and his crew put into this remodel. The end result is exceptional and we could not be happier. We have received many compliments since the completion and we look forward to working with Mike again in the future for our front patio. read more
