Sunday. A day when all sane people have at least one of their meals made for them. (Bloody hell. I just realized; I'm middle class!) A day when it's apparently against the law for pubs to serve food in the evening. Well, how else to explain the difficulties we had in finding somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening?
Fortunately, we stumbled upon The Full Moon pub and were very happy to have done so. While many of their menu items were sold out by the time we arrived (around 6pm; they stop serving food at 8pm), everything we ordered was delicious. I had sausages and mash with gravy, which was exactly what my body craved; others had gammon, eggs, and chips, a creamy pasta dish, half of a roasted chicken, and the kids enjoyed fish fingers. While these all sound pretty standard fare, The Full Moon's chef gave each of them a little twist that made a huge difference. The sausages and mash, for example, were massively well served by a gravy that wasn't just an after-thought. It was deeply delicious, especially when paired with a tremendous pint of bitter.
Desserts were equally delicious (although we encountered some unexpected nuts in the brownies; be sure to check on this if it might concern you), and just as thoughtfully done.
If we lived in this area, we'd be here every other week. The Full Moon is a delightful pub, with a great atmosphere, broad menu, and great staff. read more
