Croxley Green

I've just come home from a wonderful Christmas brunch at The Artichoke and it is the most beautiful…read morepub. The food was amazing and the staff are so lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely morning!

Been coming to the 'Arty' forever it seems and seen it change hands/clientele many times. Luckily…read morefor Croxley patrons and beyond, it's change of hands to the same chain as The Feathers/Bodegas seems to have stuck... alas it's now more of a restaurant. Gone are the heady days of having a pint of snakes b out front on the actual Green. No, now we sit surrounded by hanging baskets of glorious flowers and upon decking, on posh furniture, under huge canvas umbrellas. The drink prices of course reflect these happy changes and it can feel a tad too pricey at times but hey, the location is great on a balmy Summer's day or indoors by the open fires on a gloomy Winter's one. Came here for the beginnings of my 30th celebrations and hired the side section. Great service, lovely vibe for a pre louder bar venue. Not sure the other diners were impressed with my party poppers or cake sparklers but no one complained. A few of my friends grumbled at bar prices and they come from London, so it is expensive! Food prices are reasonable and everything I've had here has been gorg. I tried the kedgeree last week and it was bliss. Perfect. Staff are really nice and genuinely helpful. Also they now do a variety of puds rather than just waffles which left me and friend/family a bit cold. Been for a few roasts and always good. Book though, gets busy. So yea, it's great, prob better for dins or a quiet drink these days...I came here New Years quite a few years back (pre poshness) and had a dance off with a snooker cue as a prop...can't do that anymore! I'm a lot older now and also it's far too classy in here to be playing Britney and have a snooker table. Thankfully.

Went here for lunch on a lovely summer's day with a friend. It does look a bit run down on the…read moreoutside, but don't let that put you off, I think they are going for vintage working chic! We were greeted by a couple of really happy and smiley waitresses at the bar to take our order. Straight away on a chalk board clear to see was the free WiFi and the password, which was pretty cool I thought, rather than having to mooch around or ask for it! We opened a tab, no problem as we were going to be having something to eat. On the first round of drinks, my friend asked for a Tia Maria and coke, but they didn't have any Tia Maria in stock - but I can understand this - and offered her a Kaluha instead, which was just fine. We went and sat in the garden with the menu, but we were told that they were waiting on a delivery and therefore there was no salmon or chicken or something else...... It was no great dramas as actually what we wanted was something totally different, so I guess we were lucky. I could see you being a bit miffed if you were hell bent on having one of the other 3 things that were out of stock. Having said that, the charm and smiles made it so that you would be hard pushed to have the hump about anything really. I had a sausage and onion sandwich and asked them to out cheese in it - which they happily did - and my friend had a halloumi burger, both served with chips. Mine was lovely, served on granary bread, and had decent "posh" sausages and not the bulk purchase type you can get and had loads of flavour and my friend said hers was probably the best halloumi burger that she has ever had, quote "coming from a Turk that lives on this stuff, that is saying a lot!". Liked the fact you had sauce bottles and not sachets! + point :) Service was great, some scatty moments, decent pub lunch food, so all in all I will be going back here :) I looks like in the winter you would be fighting over the comfy sofas by the fire place that I spotted when I walked in!
