Sometimes 5 stars just is NOT enough…read more If you ever find yourself on the south side, you have to check this place out. I have heard friends rave about Yokohama for years, but it always seemed so far and out of the way. Now I am kicking myself for waiting so long to go and it has ruined me for a lot of other 'sushi' places closer to home. Not convinced yet? Read on. The owner only uses the freshest fish that she used to drive hours to get almost daily to ensure it is the best cut and quality - and this shines through in the taste of her offerings. The downstairs space is cozy and intimate - but they do have the coolest 'party space' upstairs that you can rent/reserve complete with in-ground tables for an authentic experience. They will also set up karaoke up there if you ask! Back to the food. Our group ordered about 10 items - all of which were so good that I was super mad that I had waited so long to try Yokohama. We were fortunate to go with a friend that has been frequenting this gem for about 20 years - so he ordered for us - and this is the way to go! We had the Volcano, BMW, Fat House (SO unique), Indiana, Speedway, and Debbie rolls, Sake smoked salmon and super white Nigiri, the Gyoza app, and another seared tuna app that I cannot remember the name of - all DELISH! Of note, your GPS might take you to what appears to be an alley - don't worry - you're close! Yokohama is in a converted house space and the vibe is so comfy. If you get the back corner table near the fireplace, check for a hidden drawer under the table where you will find years worth of love notes tucked inside. Request 'the lover's table' to sit here! Pro tip: if it is not busy, ask if Debbie is available to tell you a joke or to show you a magic trick. You won't be disappointed.

I throw three stars because I wouldn't come back again; personally I didn't enjoy the quality of the fish and rice. I found frozen ice bits in my sushi rolls and the size of the rolls are considerably large. On the plus side, the staff is welcoming and the place is clean and cozy. The appetizer Shumai was the tastiest. It was good to give this shop a try.

This is the first time visiting Kumo and it did not disappoint. We called a few days ahead to place…read morereservations for 7 of us for the hibachi side. If you are not wanting to participate in the live hibachi you can order from a menu at a regular table. Upon arriving we were promptly seated and asked if there was a birthday which it was mine and they went above and behind to make my day special. We did have 2 people join our table after we ordered our drinks and they were the perfect addition to our table. So be prepared to sit with people you don't know like other hibachi places however just embrace the newness it's not too bad especially once the hibachi show begins. Our server was outgoing and friendly. He kept up on our drinks both regular and alcoholic including shots after dinner. I personally shared the flaming volcano drink(I think was the name) menu said it was for 2 people honestly with the ice in it we both agreed it would be just fine for one person. The drink was well balanced and didn't taste like alcohol and could sneak up on you for sure The other drinks that were ordered were all great and tasted exactly as expected. The pink shot is a little strong but so good and definitely worth a shot . We ordered 3 different sushi options all were good and exactly as you would expect however the million dollar roll stood out the most. Even a non sushi eater enjoyed it. Spicy. Lobster tempura, topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, spicy mayo and eel sauce. That as copied directly from their website and let me tell you that lobster was huge for being inside of a sushi roll. Give it a try you won't be disappointed it's worth the 20$ for that one roll. From the regular appetizer side we ordered crab ragoon which was creamy and fresh one of the best I've ever had. We also tried yellow tail an it had fresh jalapeno on it you tell the fish was very fresh Each hibachi meal is served with salad with a wonderful ginger flavored dressing. You also receive a soup and it was bland and not as good as others we've had. For hibachi the hibachi for 2 is the way to go if there's 2 people in your party that are wanting a variety. You don't share a plate or anything the chef just gives you your own full portion of everything on your own plate. The hibachi for 2 comes with shrimp and 2 additional shrimp that they give everyone, steak, chicken, lobster and scallops as well as rice and veggies. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection and was tender and juicy. 2 sets of 2 ordered this and we all took leftovers home which were amazing the next day as well. The only other hibachi that our group tried that I haven't already mentioned was the salmon and it was flaky and not too dry had a great seasoning on it. So for the hibachi show we were a little concerned at first as our chef didn't seem as upbeat and outgoing as others we had heard at other tables. However once he got started he was great. He also asked about birthdays and he immediately grabbed his squirt bottle and had me grab a napkin and was yelling Saki Saki and from behind the grill he squirted saki in my mouth and he didn't stop until my mouth was completely full now that was a shot and surprisingly it didn't taste too bad at all. Everyone at the table thought it was just water but they all quickly found out it wasn't as he went around the whole table and gave everyone a shot of it and then had a baby bottle with juice in for the minors to not feel left out. Then he took veggies and went around the table trying to get them in each persons mouth and he doesn't give up until you catch it. He also had the table sing happy birthday to me while he done a part of the show. Overall it was so much fun and we all laughed so hard. To finish the evening off they brought out chocolate ice cream and a candle and yet again had everyone sing to me. I highly recommend giving them a try for your next birthday celebration. Can't wait to return for another visit.

The sushi is creative and fresh. Their Tom Yum soup is one of my favorites in the city. The spaghetti options are unctuous and unexpected. The orange chicken is bright and flavorful with fresh citrus notes. The mango chicken is a little less exciting in flavor, but still good. The restaurant isn't huge and it's dimly lit. I have concerns about the cleanliness due to the age, but surfaces appear clean. Maybe don't look at the carpet. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the service. Service is friendly, but it's a bit problematic. The second time I was here, I overheard a table discussing that they didn't get what they ordered. When the server came by, they asked about it and she confirmed that the meal they were served was not what they (thought) they ordered. The guest enjoyed the food they were served and continued to eat it. The third time I was here, it was my order that was wrong. The person in my party asked our server if they suggested the orange chicken or the mango chicken. The server suggested the orange chicken and that was ordered. I placed my order after two other people, ordering a Thai curry with chicken. Later, an order of Mango Chicken arrived at our table. After some confusion, the server said it was mine. She was going to correct it, but we had been waiting a while and everyone else was eating. I accepted, ate, and paid for it, but it was definitely not what I ordered. There are numbers on the menu and I will stick to those moving forward. Food doesn't come out together or in a sensible manner, but it's fine if you understand to expect that. It really is very good, aside from the service issues.

Well I finally tried this small 'Japanese' hibachi restaurant. It's clean inside with friendly…read morestaff. They were pretty quick at getting my order ready as I did a highly recommended order online for pickup. There is also a small indoor dining area if you'd like. So now to the food .... I'd say I agree they REALLY need to have some sauce or flavoring. The chicken and beef had more pepper than sauce if that says anything and that was minimal. The chicken and the beef hibachi were good but I could fire this up at home and it would taste better than this honestly plain chicken breast and steak. The steak was low quality but I expected that for the awesome price . Very, VERY minimal veggies. The zucchini is very thinly sliced and I'd say it had 4 pieces chopped in quarters max on my plate. The togo container is the typical size of 1 big (rice area) and 2 small side areas (meat and veggies) if that tells you what to expect. The pricing is good though for what you get. Now the Chinese dish (general tso's) was excellently done. Plenty of sauce and plenty of meat so that's confusing when comparing to Japanese dishes. Unfortunately I'm gonna make some people upset with my honest review but it's a heads up on what you're getting. I'm just gonna stick with making these at home unless I want Chinese food

We bro see the menu which is both displayed on boards behind the counter as well as in a paper option at the register. They have ample seating with the standard table and chairs as well as a fun space for photos and swinging chairs (think Insta photo). They have sushi, bowls, pho and a variety of other options as well as sharing space with a cake bakery. I'm not sure how that all fits in but as we were there for lunch we didn't try the sweet treats this time. I ordered a veggie bowl which had a variety of sauces, but was able to make it vegan which is always appreciated. They don't have any vegan pho or ma y other vegan options, but this is a good spot for a quick rice bowl meal if you are out and about. My friend got the Pho which she said was amazing and definitely worth returning to get again. I do wish someone would come up with a vegan based Pho as they are delicious! Overall the flavors were good and satisfying and the service was wonderful for such a casual spot. I would go back if I needed a quick meal and was in the mood for a rice bowl. I do think they should put on a few more veggies as it was mainly rice in my bowl, but the rice was delicious and with enough sauce it felt more of a meal. Definitely worth a try!
