Catch of the day
Joy G.

Fuego was indeed fuego (sorry). I was craving a roasted whole fish and the version that they do here was flavorful and a substantial portion, stuffed with spinach and some sort of foam drizzled over veggies, with perfect crispy skin. I would've liked the actual meat of the fish to be more tender (it bordered on overcooked) but still I walked away plenty satisfied. It does have lots of tiny bones. Bread basket came with the most delicious roasted eggplant in oil, I could've eaten just that with the bread and been a happy camper. The roasted octopus was not bad but a touch too heavy on the sauces for me, I would've wanted more of the flavor of the octopus on its own. The potatoes under the octopus, however, were perhaps my favorite part of the whole meal. Everyone else seemed happy with their food - the catch of the day (with the fluffiest mashed potatoes) was a very popular choice. If you're sick of seafood, they have steak and braised brisket on their menu. Really cozy and romantic ambiance as well for if you want to dress up slightly. This place gets very popular for good reason; I liked the little bar counter they set up out front so you can watch the grilling in action.

Grilled Calamari

We enjoyed everything we ate! The grilled calamari was good but not for me due to the texture. The bread they give you with that eggplant spread is amazing! The pork belly Bahn mi was excellent, perfectly crisp. My lobster and risotto dish was cooked perfectly and came with a nice orange butter sauce. My companions grouper was also very well prepared. Service was amazing, constantly checking in on us and our drinks were always full. The ambiance is very nice with an upscale island feel. I would recommend this place and I see why others do as well.

Texturas de Chocolate/Textures of Chocolate

Really top notch place; we saw this place had great reviews, but we honestly did not expect to have such an incredible meal. Staff were so sweet and helpful, all from Argentina, and the ambience was wonderful, with all of the food grilled over an open fire in the center of the small, cozy, open air restaurant. We had the grilled octopus as an appetizer, which was charred and grilled to perfection, over patatas bravas and all smothered in some delicious sauces. We had the catch of the day (red snapper) prepared in an Argentinian fashion, over garlic mashed potatoes with molten feta cheese and dill; really delicious. The Textures of Chocolate dessert was to die for!

This is the Camarones and Fettuccini with a large swirl of Parmesan cheese which was scrumptious!

This restaurant is a MUST visit when you are here in Isla Mujeres!! It is our third time on the island and our first dinner here. The restaurant is cozy, with tasteful decor and the food is out of this world! We had the BEST Sangria that I have ever tasted. The gazpacho was incredible with the flavors bursting in your mouth! I ordered the Camarones with fettuccini . The shrimp were some of the best I've had anywhere! My husband ordered the Red Snapper on a bed of mashed potatoes with capers and feta cheese. The fish was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a little off the beaten path but no too hard to find.

Great cocktails. Full bar.

Not too far from Punta Del Sur on Isla Mujeres, this gem is worth a visit if you are on the island. We weren't too hungry when we arrived so we had cocktails and two entrees for our family of four. The catch of the day which was red snapper was delicious and served up with some tasty roasted vegetables while the lobster tail was cooked and served with a delicious butter sauce that they made in house. The cocktails were great and the service was friendly and good. You'll need a golf cart or taxi to get here if you're visiting Isla Mujeres. We were happy with our visit. 5 stars and two thumbs up!

I think all the restaurants in isla mujeres have wonderful service, including this one! Such great food. I got the roasted whole fish of the day which was hawk fish. It was delicious! The vegetables were very well seasoned as well! Definitely a must try if you want seafood while you're here.

Just excellent! Great service, location and food. The owners brother was our server and he was wonderful!

The service at Fuego de Mar was extraordinary! Our waiter, Elliot, along with the entire staff was world class. We especially enjoying the strong cocktails, grilled vegetables, and key lime dessert. You must also try the grilled octopus. Def worth the trip!

Catch of the Day special
Marcia S.

We've been on Isla Mujeres for a week, and our best meal to date has been here, at Fuego De Mar. our server, Elliot, who was fantastic, recommended their Catch of the Day special--black grouper in a chili and peanut crust, with sautéed vegetables and a sweet corn consume poured over it. It was so delicious--the sweetness of the corn playing so nicely with the spicy earthiness of the crust on the perfectly cooked grouper--that I asked for a spoon to get the last of the consume from the bowl! They also brought us extra of their delicious bread to soak up the liquid. My partner had a very good spinach gnocchi dish with asparagus in a cheesy sauce, and I had two, very tasty hibiscus margaritas. Service was wonderful, and prices were quite reasonable--on par with other restaurants on the island (and inexpensive by Portland standards). It was especially fun to watch the seamless working together by the cooks and servers, with three different people plating my dish at the same time. We'll be back, and you should go too!

Another phenomenal meal last night. Chef's special menu item. Catch of the day was Red Snapper. Peanut and chile crusted filet with roasted vegetables in a sweet corn consomé. It came to the table piping hot. It was delicious! Service was stellar as usual.

We really enjoyed this place. The catch of the day (grouper) was fantastic! We also had the octopus appetizer and brisket, both were great.

Wow! The biggest ripoff in the island. Overpriced and undervalued. The service started great but…read morethey were not busy, as soon as more guest came, the service became slow and forgetful. Missing items we requested and having to ask a few times. The place looks nice and open with two levels. They are supposedly a "market" but it's a restaurant and a pier stop. People with their boast can come in. They have showers as well. We order the grouper (fish) and 1 dozen of oysters on the half shell. The fish came with the choice of rice, pasta or steamed vegetables. We decided to do the whole fish and get one filet out. I'm originally from an island so eating a whole fish is normal so I wanted to experience it again because back home where we live we don't have it. The fish was ok. It needed more flavor. Rice was hard and cold and not really tasty. The oysters were harder than usual. We ordered two of their Marbella sunrise (drinks) and they were good. Overall the food was NOT good or fresh. It made me sick! I got food poisoning. At the end of our trip in the island I got so sick I was puking on the beach and then walking the streets like a drunk person puking my guts out and not even with a buzz?! No thanks! My final advice? AVOID at all cost because what you will be missing here is your money from your wallet. Nothing special. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Awful. Definitely not worth $221.00. The stone crab was so tuff you couldn't eat it. My husband…read moresent it back and they still charged him $21 for the 1 piece he tried to eat. The other 2 items we Ordered were sub-par fried rice and 6 shrimp. Not worth it at all! Very disappointed in this place.

She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. The bar area, facing the street, looked like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it next time!
