Good for a buffet, when you compare it to others; but don't expect greatness. Buffet des Continents…read moreis ideal for families or groups who wishes to have a access to large quantity of food for a budget price. The food itself is not fantastic and the large amount of seats and customers makes the place loud and hard to navigate. However, it does what it promises, tons of different cuisine under a same room for a small price. The food is often soggy, salty and sometimes overcooked, the drinks are nothing to rave about and the dessert station is often a mess. You get what you pay for. Compared to other restaurant of the same type, Buffet des continents is somewhat at the top, with a large number of staff, multiple counters where they serve pasta, pizza, sushi and breakfast food, lots of activities for children (face paint) and special events (ex. Mexican fiesta = nacho table). Perfect for kids and people not too picky about food and just want eat a lot. Otherwise pick another restaurant.

This chain is pretty popular with the masses and when I was invited to an event on a Saturday night…read moreI wasn't surprised to see this place was rocking with hundreds of people WAITING to get seats. I haven't been to this chain in nearly a decade and my visit was to the one in Trois-Rivieres... so I kind-of knew what to expect but this place was PURE MADNESS. But over what??? I REALLY don't get it. The food is buffet style. The name fits. If you've been to something like "Le Mandarin" or "Fu Lam" you've already been here. There's a bigger selection of course but more things I wouldn't touch. Buffet style sushi? No thanks. Under-cooked roast beef? Not going to play the gastro lotto tonight. Canteen-style poutine? Is this really a thing? Am I some kind of savage? I ended up trying about 20 plates.... mostly taking a bite here and there after a decent-sized first plate. Most of the things I tried came well short of my expectation. Many plates were bland and were clearly prepped in huge batches to slop out to the massages elbowing each other for the scraps. Some sweet dishes weren't sweet but salty? Salty is a key thing. I was parched after I left. The experience, at least for me was one I don't plan to repeat any time soon. The pricing was $23 per person to which I feel is robbery. A few dollars more and I could have eaten at a number of other AYCE restos with considerably better food and without the busy hustling and bustling. The service? Overwhelmed and after quickly inquiring if I'd be ordering any extras (soda/beer) to which I said no became quite disinterested in our table. I had to remind her the 3rd time she passed by to refill our glasses. She was FAR more focused on letting us know, every 15 minutes like clock-work (with no water pitcher in hand), we had to leave by 7 PM. Not her fault of course but this place runs their clients on the clock and more clients sitting down and paying is more important than delivering a proper eating experience. Don't blame them. There were well over 100 people waiting for a table when I left. What is going on....... Hard pass going forward for me for this chain.

Service was great! Can't complain. The BYOW is still in effect so they come and open the bottle of wine you bring for you and bring out glasses. I just really am mixed .. the soups were cold as hell .. my miso soup was still cold. My food was bland and just mediocre .. sushi rice was a lil stale I was trying to revitalize it by dunking the crap out of it in Spicy mayo and soya sauce Lolol The kimchi was awful. But then they had delicious tender grilled chicken and delicious crispy shrimps so the food was mixed .. it felt weird because not everything was consistent. It was alright decent ish but what you expect for an AYCE .. I guess I was hoping it would live up or exceed to their old name. Changing owners definitely didn't serve this place justice. Not sure I'll be back maybe who knows lol Cheers

I said I wasn't going to do it on this last visit, but I broke down. I'm talking about going to…read morethe buffet at Saveurs des Continents, the apparent new name for Buffet des Continents. The newer name means "flavors of the continents" when translated into English and that probably has a better ring to it than the previous name. The dishes here go all the way from 2 to 5 stars, so that averages out to 3.5 stars, which isn't so bad considering how much choice they offer. Mostly I take from the Canadian-North American, Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern food. They also have a staffed grill where they can cut you a nice little slab of meat. They have a section with Asian food and I also noticed a sushi area, the latter of which is beyond my line of demarcation. This is why, as I've said on the previous review, you will be breaking bread with people from 5 continents. (Should there be a token Australian in attendance, that would take it up to 6 continents.) The service at Saveurs des Continents is fine. Be sure to engage the server in such a way that they don't forget you and won't clean off your table while you are going up to the buffet line to get another plate of food. (I've had that happen up at St. Jerome once, and the place was far from full.) In this case, the server and I spoke Spanish and he didn't mind at all because, after all, this is Montreal and it subscribes to the concept of a "cultural mosaic." Bring it on. There is also a person who will come around to take a drink order, but I go with the included coffee or tea. With all that said, the pricing scheme is fair. It is slightly different depending on the time of the day and day of the week. The pricing includes a gratuity to the tune of about 12.5%, if I recall correctly, that they distribute to the employees. You are free to give your server a little bit more if you choose to. So, in revisiting Saveurs des Continents, I'm going to go with 4 stars. They offer a lot of food choices across a broad spectrum, fair pricing, decent service, and a unique brand of quirkiness and diversity that you don't easily forget. Also, with REM joining the Metro system and Exo commuter trains, this newer light rail system can take you from the city to the south shore. Your stop will be the Panama station and, from there, there is a pedestrian underpass and path that goes to the shopping center with this buffet. One thing is that it will be easier to get back home with the light rail and not think of having to adjust your tilt steering wheel upward. Finally, if this American manages to come in here once on each visit to Montreal area, then this Saveurs des Continents is more realistically a 4 star sort of place.
