But practicing yoga at Danbury Bikram yoga has been an exception. I love it and I enjoy it. There is a feeling of a community. It's clean and cozy. They have plenty of classes and the instructors truly believe in progress vs perfection. And yes it's hot and very difficult but eventually managed to Pace myself for 90 min practice. After every practice I feel like a new person. I can't think of anything else but the practice. I totally recommend this place.

I was in serious need of cleansing after so much food & wine! I went to the 8am class on a Sunday morning. I got there early to find a large studio. It was probably the biggest Bikram Yoga studio I've been to. I've been to 2 studios in Michigan, and 1 in St. Augustine, FL. The actual room where we practice is small and fairly standard, but they had sizeable changing rooms for both men & women. They also seemed to have a room for instructors. As I was trying to figure out where the women's room was (since the instructor was elsewhere), I stumbled upon what looked like a bed and area for instructors to stay. Maybe its for inbetween classes? I don't know! It was a nice surprise to find out that on your first visit at Bikram Yoga Danbury, your mat & towel rental is free, a savings of $3. The drop-in class rate is $22, which is $7 more than my local Bikram Yoga studios. These are individually owned, so they choose their rate. The packages were also more expensive, and not as many classes are offered. Obviously this is based on demand, which I found surprising that the 2 Michigan studios have more than double the classes. The instructor was very nice, and good at instruction/guidance. I thought it was odd that she discouraged drinking water in between postures after the Eagle pose like every other instructor allows. She said it's a distraction & we should all be hydrated already if we're drinking the amount of water we should be drinking. So, basically it's almost pointless to bring in water. She called me out for drinking water (not by name though), and asked that we all wait until the final posture. It was a good class & I'm so glad I went. If you've been thinking of trying Bikram Yoga, go for it! Give yourself time to adjust, be patient with yourself and take advantage of the new student package. It takes at least 30 days to get the hang of it. It's good for you!

Since this was written about his NEW location I decided to copy and paste and share it here for all to see! I just finished taking my second class at Basil's new studio in Ridgefield, CT. (Which is GORGEOUS and filled with LOVE!) As always his class was AMAZING! I stumbled upon Basil Yoga in the fall of 2010 when he was located in North Salem, NY - his studio was just a few minutes from my home in Ridgefield. I drove by it quite often and one day I decided to stop in and take a class. That first experience was life changing... Before that I had only taken yoga at a fitness center and one other yoga place in Ridgefield (which was very unwelcoming and militaristic) So when I took my first class at Basil Yoga I was blown away. I didn't know that there was more to yoga than just a good work out! Let me just say that Basil changed my life. His teaching are profound. Not only do you get an amazing yoga workout, but the yoga philosophies, that he weaves into his teachings, are extremely helpful and always seem to be exactly what I need to hear that day. I love that he combines the whole body, mind and spirit in all of his teachings. With the new studio he is offering 50+ classes! So there is defiantly something for everyone. Also, I can't say enough good things about his instructors (Alicia, Bryn, Mike, & Theresa)!!! I love them all - they each bring their own magic to each of their classes. The hardest part is deciding which one to take, because I want to take them all. Also, Christine, at the front is so welcoming and helpful. If you every need anything she is at the ready to help and guide you to the perfect solution. I can't recommend Basil Yoga more highly, not only is it my yoga studio, but it's also my spiritual sanctuary, where the community is strong and the yoga traditions are alive and well!

Fit For You is a must add to your workout regime or a great place to get started and take control of your physical wellness. If you strength train, I think a Pilates session once a week is a great addition to your weekly routine. I truly believe that the programs at Fit For You have made my core stronger, as I've seen advancements in my yoga practice, and it has helped me maintain endurance in strength training. It's really the best way I've found to tone and build muscle stamina. The private sessions solo or with 1-2 others on the Pilates Reformers will help you feel your best by working on areas that you want to target. It's a total body program, but you always can say if you want to focus more on upper or lower body. And even though this is a low impact exercise, it doesn't mean you aren't going to work. She'll sneak in some killer motions that you'll feel the next day and she won't put you on a weight that's too easy for you. I like reformer best for core and arms, but if you really want to focus on your lower body, I would mix in some of the barre classes that the studio offers! I partially dislocated my hip in a different exercise program and Alysa helped me slowly regain strength and get back into exercising safely. She is very knowledgeable and trained about movement and offered helpful advice for at-home stretching and modified exercises. It's been about 5 months since I was cleared to fully exercise again and Alysa still checks in with each movement to make sure it's not putting pressure on my hip.

She brought me mental peace with aromatherapy and reassurance when I was familiar with yoga but wasn't sure what poses were OK and not OK while pregnant. Plus, I realized the value of being in a room with other pregnant women once a week - it was validating and reassuring, plus it showed me a glimpse of what was to come when women much further along in their pregnancies shared their ups and downs and plans for birth and beyond. The new location is even better, with a babbling brook in the background and a dedicated zen space. Ellen herself is positive, affirming, flexible, accommodating and knowledgeable at a time when (as a new mom to be) there are plenty of things to worry about. Coming to her prenatal classes I know she'll shape a practice that meets me and the other ladies in the room where we are, at any stage of pregnancy. A few times I've been lucky enough to have a private session with Ellen and she knows just how to push me to the edge of my pregnant abilities without overdoing it - I appreciate that because many prenatal exercise routines are very tame, when you're used to really sweating pre-pregnancy. Jessica joined the studio a few months ago and she also knows her stuff - I frequently attend her Wed night classes. Now at 37 weeks pregnant I'm counting the days until I'm the one that stops showing up to class because my baby has come - but I'm sure this yoga practice has helped me to take pregnancy curve balls in stride, remedy the effects of a too-long commute and feel prepared in yet another way to face my planned natural birth with confidence and an open mind. Thank you Ellen!
