First off, I priced this job at two other establishments in my neighborhood. In one case, the price - right on the same street - was double. So there is truth in the name Frugal Frames. More importantly, the person I dealt with took time, had patience, shared helpful information about the job and helped me choose a frame that looked good and complimented the painting's colors. When I got it home, my spouse thought the framing actually enhanced the painting. You know, you sort of take a chance with a first framing job. You wonder how it will turn out. Their name is a bit misleading. Unless framing art is really insanely expensive elsewhere, then yeah, I guess that would make them "frugal." So not ridiculously expensive, but definitely not inexpensive either. Nevertheless, they do a REALLY good job. I got two pieces framed here last month, and they both look phenomenal. I had three pieces of artwork custom framed at Frugal Frames. For two of the pieces, I specifically chose deep frames so that the artwork could be floated, creating a shadow box effect. I communicated this intention to the framer, who assured me that he understood what I sought. After bringing the artwork home, I realized that these two pieces were framed with normal spacers. When I called the frame shop and asked whether it would be possible to get the spacers replaced before I moved out of the city in two weeks, the employee rudely scoffed at me because it was the beginning of December, i.e. the Christmas season, and basically asked me why I thought I should be given the priority of line jumping. After I moved, I brought the pieces to a frame shop to be fixed. It cost me about $200 to have the frames taken apart, the spacers replaced with matboard for floating, and the frames put back together. The icing on the cake was that I learned Frugal Frames mounted my artwork with ELECTRICAL TAPE. I would have given two stars because my third piece was framed correctly, but for the fact that I should now get that piece taken apart and remounted before the non-archival adhesive degrades my valuable c-print. read more

The folks here were very helpful, have a huge selection of styles and a pretty good range in prices. They helped us pick something out that was classic and nice enough to hang on the wall for forever, but didn't break the bank for the poor newly-weds that we are. I had a special document framed here as a gift for my partner and am thrilled with the outcome! I have never had anything framed so this was all new to me. The people who work there are very professional, friendly and do quality work. I didn't feel intimidated going in which is important to me. They showed me some options that they thought would work nicely with the document and gave me a quote for the work. They ended up picking out a frame/matting that worked perfectly with the document and it looks amazing! Framing is expensive but I don't feel that what I paid was too much by any means. I had a print framed this week using a Groupon that cost $39 and was worth $100 in framing costs. I picked a mat and frame and the total came to $145! I was amazed at the price. As I didn't want to lose the $39 I had paid, I had my print framed. When I picked the work up, I noticed that the frame itself was a cheap frame that you can purchase at A.C. Moore or Michaels. No nice brown paper on the back, just the hardware. I couldn't believe it! I have never paid more that $85 to have this print framed with a very nice frame and finished back. I mentioned to the owner that I found the price of $145 outrageous for this type of work and he "wished me a nice day." Needless to say, I would certainly not recommend Frugal Frames. read more

I was trying to match a series of existing prints framed years ago with three additional prints from the same series. The originals were exquisitely done and I was concerned about matching them in appearance and quality. Frugal on Pine offered about as close a match as possible, with expert guidance and taking time needed to finalize decisions. The work was done beautifully, with frames joined perfectly, hardware and finishing paper on back done expertly, and bevelled, double-matting as in the original. Superb work, reasonably priced.
