I booked a trip on the clipper and scheduled a garden tour through them and stayed at a recommended hotel. The ride to Canada was very rough, no fault of the ship as the waters were rough. They were ready to handle it though with plenty of ginger chews and other supplies. The boarding service and checking in process went smoothly. The boat docked right near the tour bus and also near the hotel we stayed in the Hotel Grand Pacific. The ride back to Seattle was a lot more calm.

This is definitely the nicer way to go from Seattle to Victoria. You avoid the hassle of airport security and the immigration lines at the border when traveling by car. You still have to show passports, but everything is SO much more chill. The staff were friendly. The boat itself is significantly smaller than a car ferry to Bainbridge or one of the other islands. There is less walking around to do, which can make entertaining kids more challenging. The steerage seats are good enough, though no luxury. The tickets were remarkably expensive - it may be that I purchased them too late. Over $700 for round trip with two adults and three kids!

The FRS Victoria Clipper is one of the nicest ways to get from Seattle to Victoria. We arrived around 7 am for our 8 am ferry, and were done with our checkin by about 7:30. After a short wait, we onboarded and were shown to our seats. The Comfort class cabin we were in cost $596 for four passengers, but we almost broke even as it came with free snacks (chips, pretzels, nuts) and drinks (soda, tea, coffee), plus we had priority boarding and were able to check in four bags for free. They had other food like fruit cups, yogurt parfaits, cheese and fruit plates, wraps and sandwiches available for purchase. The trip took almost 3 hours, and we spent it alternating between relaxing indoors in our comfy chairs and bracing against the wind and choppy waves outdoors on the deck. The last part of the leg, where we approached Victoria, was the prettiest and smoothest part of the trip. Customs and immigration was at the Victoria end of the journey after we picked up our checked luggage. This took about an hour, but was uneventful. Happy to ride the FRS Victoria Clipper again!

We had a wonderful cruise ( August 2025) ! Very comfortable ..our host Hank in Comfort Class was fantastic! We had a lovely tour of Victoria BC..lots to do! I highly recommend this day cruise ..don't forget your passports!

The tour was amazing! We loved the naturalist who provided information on the wildlife throughout the tour. We got to see several families of orcas as well as a couple gray whales throughout the excursion. And some seals!! I would say don't spend extra for the premium seats as we spent the vast majority of our time on the top deck of the boat where you are standing mostly and seating is otherwise unassigned. - The one concern we had was we did not begin boarding until around 11:00am and the staff did not provide any updates to us as to why we were delayed until it was time to board. This is quite late as we were told to arrive at the pier at 9:30am (with departure scheduled for 10:30). Side note: May I suggest the naturalist pause speaking during the intimate moments with the wildlife? Otherwise, great job!

    We're having too much fun!

You've got to make this trip! It is fast and fun! I wouldn't do it any other way unless I got the VIP seats on the top. I don't know what the coach people do, but we got great service. Great service by the entire crew. This is a fun way to blast your way over to Victoria, Vancouver Island!

Ask the Community - FRS Clipper

Upon arrival at Victoria, BC, which side of the boat do the passengers embark from? Right side, left side, rear? Middle or rear of ferry? It would be nice to not be the last one in line for going through customs!

Hi Jeanne, the Victoria Clipper V docks on the port/left side and guests disembark through the stern of the vessel.

Will be booking a one way ticket from Victoria to Seattle. I will be living and working in Phoenix and need to apply for a TN Visa when I clear US Customs and Immigration. Is there an area where I can apply for this or is it just passport control?

Entering via our terminal in Seattle from Victoria, you will pass through immigration/customs in Victoria and then the final U.S. customs check in our terminal is only a duty-free final check.

The last time I went on the Victoria Clipper was about 15-20 years ago. Is the boat as small and cramped now as it was then? It felt like being cramped like sardines in a tin, and though it is only three hours, it was uncomfortable.

What's the weather in Victoria, BC ? Planning to do the Seattle - Victoria BC, Butchard Garden Tour. Is it worth the price?

Depends. I WOULD NOT recommend the day trip from Seattle to Victoria, almost 2 hours of the time in Victoria was spent disembarking and getting through customs. Felt very ripped off. So glad we didn't elect the Butchard Garden tour because that was… Read more

I'm considering taking my four year old from Victoria to Seattle on the Clipper instead of flying. Is it easy to board/travel on the Clipper with a kid and luggage?

I don't have kids but I did see kids on board. Luggage was easy. We each brought a carry-on size bag and stowed it under our seats.

Seabourn rapidly sinking ship…read more We hadden onze 3e cruise met Seabourn. Verblijf in Cassablanca sloeg werkelijk alles.

***500th Review*** This calls for a special review! With COVID-19 not likely to be over anytime…read moresoon, travelers, like myself haven't been doing much traveling. But we can still reminisce and be thankful for all the things we've done and places we've checked off our bucket list while we could, right? I enjoy cruising. I've been on lower-end ships to the very high-end and all kinds in between. Going on a Seabourn cruise had been on my bucket list forever. Thanks to my loving husband who is always doing things to make me happy, he made this happen for me in May of 2018. He chose the Seaborn Ovation specifically, not so much because of the European itinerary, but because it was the second sailing of this spanking brand new ship. He actually tried to book the inaugural sailing for us, but it was completely sold out months in advance. If you've never been on a brand new ship, I'd highly suggest it. The Ovation was equipped with all the latest conveniences and high tech equipment. Wi-Fi was humming nicely 24/7, and there were outlets to plug in your devices everywhere, which my husband, who's always working online, really appreciated. Everyone, including the crew was super excited about being on a brand new ship, and I felt it was reflected in the crew's enthusiasm and attitude to please. The all-suite rooms were super modern and spacious. There's something I liked about knowing that only one other party had slept on our bed. The bathroom was HUGE with a separate tub, which I used a lot. You won't need to put up with those tiny showers that you can barely move around in on most cruise lines! The best part for me? The AMAZING food!!! It was one of the highlights for me. There's even a Thomas Keller Grill which featured influences from his world-famous restaurants, the French Laundry (Napa) and Per Se (NYC). On a few nights, it also showcased dishes from his casual restaurant, Ad Hoc (Napa). We'd been to Ad Hoc numerous times, and we felt exactly as if we were dining at Ad Hoc. The dishes, down to the plating was identical! I believe Keller was actually on the Ovation's inaugural sailing. Another memorable foodie experience was their omakase dinners. They brought in a sushi chef from Japan, it was just as good as the top omakase restaurants in San Francisco but even better! And lastly, speaking of food, I ordered champagne and caviar from room service and enjoyed it in bed as an afternoon "snack" almost every day during our 14-night cruise. I was in Heaven! The one disappointment was not being able to partake in the tour of the galley. They capped the attendance, which didn't seem right. Either make it available to every passenger or just don't do it all. In light of the pandemic, I don't foresee feeling comfortable about cruising anytime in the next few years. I'm just so grateful for all the travel, especially international travel I've been able to do before all this craziness. I've always believed in not falling into that trap of, "I can't do this now because (insert whatever excuse)". Like my lifelong motto goes, "Go out and live your bucket list!" I'm so happy I've checked Seabourn off my bucket list, and we'd easily book another sailing on this top-tier cruise line.

My husband and I have been on dozens of cruises from Carnival to Crystal. We had always wanted to…read morego on Seabourn, so for our tenth anniversary we went with friends on a Seabourn cruise from Nice to Barcelona. Because of the price we paid our expectations were that the quality of food, service and attention to details would be worth the money. Sadly, for us, those levels ran below Carnival experiences we had in the Med. For example, the beef we had tasted was below par and we asked the chef if it was prime. HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT PRIME BEEF WAS! For a cruise of this caliber, for the head chef not to know this was stunning. He told us the name of their purveyor. When we looked them up, they don't sell prime beef. When we were on the Carnival Cruise we could eat in the ship's steakhouse and have amazing prime beef- just like you were eating at Morton's. Our friend has food sensitivities and went through great pains to let Seabourn know. Our first night he was served a tomato bisque and verified there was no dairy. He asked three times. He took one bite and after having been completely off dairy for 4 years could taste the butter in the soup. We called over the maître de and then found out the soup was indeed made from butter. If this only happened once it would have been forgiven and understandable, but it happened night after night. This was our friend's first cruise and we pledged that a line of this caliber would completely take care of his every food need. We felt responsible for leading him into a very uncomfortable situation that happened so many times on the trip it became laughable. The small ports were beautiful and our quarters were spacious but they were not worth the price that we paid. I felt ripped off, discouraged, frustrated and taken advantage of. It was almost an "Emporer's New Clothes" experience. We had heard how amazing this line was, and to have a Carnival ship outdo them was crazy. I, too, have food sensitivities and when we were on the last Carnival Med cruise the chefs were AMAZING at making beautiful creations for me every night and they never made a mistake. It almost brought me to tears to be so cared for on that Carnival ship which was a fraction of the cost of Seabourn. Here's the kicker. My husband took notes on all of the service highs and lows and sent them to Seabourn. They sent us a letter offering us a class upgrade the next time we sailed with them. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ....Seabourn.
