Yes it is placed in a neighborhood and it's not welcoming. I ordered the $13. Cali Toast. Mind you I was told they were out of avocado. no problem. I said use white beans instead.? Received a warm slice of toast a slice of fresh mozzarella cut in 1/2 3 slices of marinated roma tomato on dry warm bread with a cup of white bean chili of some sort. I ask them to please toast my bread, they asked "isn't it?" I said nope I also told them my bacon was missing. Pictured is the first piece of warm bread with 1/2 of the return toasted piece of toast. Is it just me or is there a noticeable size difference? Also the bacon was raw and the attitude temperature dropped to a chilly yuck. Not welcoming rather we were bothering and they made sure we noticed by the lack of good customer service. I was recommended to try this place. I'm recommending you don't. I have been to this location several times and enjoyed my experience. However yesterday we came in 45 minutes before closing. Hoping to grab a table and drink some coffee. We were not looking to order food. We were greeted in a very unwelcoming fashion. Told that the building closes in 45 minutes, but that they have started to shut down so that people can leave. The hostess told us we could go to the bar and order to go. The whole experience was very strange. The hostess and service was overall very rude. As with any place for brunch in Nashville, prepare for LONG waits. All meals are great proportions. The food menu also has a lot of options. The coffee menu has something for everyone. Staff is ok. Im sure they are short-staffed which leads to a couple inconsistent in customer service. I recommend this location and the one downtown! read more

We stopped by Frothy Monkey around 9:45 on a Saturday, right before the big crowd. It's a nice looking restaurant that is perfectly set up for brunch. It took a while for anyone to notice us as the hostess stand but we were seated once they saw us. We were a little annoyed when our server came over and started taking the order from a couple that sat down 10 minutes after us but it all worked out in the end. I ordered the farm house breakfast and an extra biscuit on this side - and let me tell you, that was a delicious breakfast. My wife had the breakfast sandwich which she thought was good but that the bacon was a bit too hard (it was hard to take a bite out of the sandwich without the entire strip of bacon coming out). We ended up needing some hot sauce for both meals. The waitress responded that "we only have cholula" and brought over an unopened bottle (that we struggled to open at the table). Overall, it's a nice place for brunch and the food is tasty; a solid 4 stars that can be a 5. The staff could use a little refresher course. And, I acknowledge that this is a weird statement, but the plates were too small for the food. I recognize that this is a style but it's also nice to have a larger plate for when you are eating. We were in Nashville visiting family and had a chance to stop in this super cute breakfast spot. I loved the relaxed vibes and it was open early unlike many other spots. Our server was really great, she actually gave me a very accurate description of the Havana latte and I just knew I had to have it. The coffee was delicious, it wasn't too sweet, with just a touch of spice from the anise. Visited Nashville for the first time and googled coffee places...Frothy Monkey caught my eye due to the unusual name. I was so glad that we visited because it was a pleasant surprise. Came for a late breakfast, we were able to park right in front. Service was pretty quick. I got a breakfast sandwich on a bagel and so did my friend, it was alright. I wanted a potato side and only saw roasted potatoes. They were absolutely tasteless I could only have one. So bad, not crispy. Nothing. My boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich of another variety and he was cool with it. Our friend got some melty sausage gravy grits dish that he enjoyed. I wanted to try the homemade pop tarts too, I mean how cool. I asked to get it warmed up because that sounded better. It was so bad! Super dry and rock hard in the middle. Worst pastry ever and such a letdown. The shining star of this breakfast was the coffee, I enjoyed my iced latte a lot with the banana flavoring and chocolate, I got mine iced and a friend got his hot and we both liked them a lot. I picked up breakfast from this cafe while staying at a local Air BnB. It's in a really cute neighborhood with painted clapboard homes. There are indoor and outdoor tables and a counter to sit at if you're eating there. I took my avocado toast (loaded with veggies!) and hot chocolate (meh) to go. Staff were nice and prices fair. This is our very first stop once arriving to Nashville, and we are so happy we decided to give this place a visit! The staff is very friendly. Every time I try to give Frothy a chance I regret it :( I live just down the street and their coffee is genuinely good! I keep going back to try to give it another chance but every time I am let down by their rude staff :( You can tell the company really puts effort into their coffee and ambiance but perhaps they should direct that attention towards their staff instead. I imagine the likelihood of them not being paid well being likely because of their high turnover as well or just poor management. Today I had to wait 5 minutes just to be greeted by someone to take my order as people were looking at me and acknowledging I was there but not speaking to me or even giving the courtesy of telling me "hey so sorry we'll be with you in a moment." I'm a bartender, I get it, but this is when a manager steps in to help. There was also quite a few other staff members that were walking by but didn't seem to be helping or acknowledging customers either unless it was to ask the two staff that WERE running around a question or tell a joke. There's also been a few times where I've gone in and the staff are actually arguing loudly in front of customers which, again, should not be happening. The coffee bar is legit with traditional coffees that you won't find at chain bars. Their baristas know what's up! My latte was rich and creamy (like velvet) and served in what seemed like a soup bowl. I didn't run out of coffee!! Woohooh! The breakfast menu had a little for everyone. Our party got everything from the biscuits and gravy bowl to omelets to bagel sandwiches. Our server did a great job making sure that we were comfortable and had just what we needed. If you live in east nashville it's super convenient and easy to get to. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A lot of the local restaurants purchase & serve the bread from their bakery. I'm very excited to have Frothy on this side of town. I've frequented another location and found the latte skimping on espresso on multiple visits; yet this first visit to EN Frothy proved different. I was wired all day. My only negative is that there was a lot of build up at the bottom of my drink. Bleh. The breakfast sandwich was sooo good and flavorful. Would've liked for the sausage to be more than a small circle..but it still tasted good. May just opt not to include it next time because of the size ratio to the sandwich. Right now they are doing online or walk up ordering. They were running behind about 10 mins but nothing not understandable. All workers work pleasant to interact with. The service is great. I don't want to discount that. The ambience is a bit of an "elevated eats" kind of place, which is fine. The food however has been not good from the multiple times I've eaten there. It's too focused on being different than it is good. Avocado toast with sourdough bread sounds great, until the sourdough comes out tough and burnt. Huevos rancheros sounds great, until it comes out with two uncooked corn tortillas and avocado. Biscuits and gravy sounds great, until it comes out with one biscuit, eggs(?), and a gravy that's basically cheese sauce with peppers and onions in it. Just stick to the basics. It'd probably be much better that way. read more

I heard great things about Frothy Monkey and was happy to see that it was within walking distance of my Airbnb. This is located in a beautiful neighborhood. The waiters are so friendly and helpful. Hot chocolate was delicious! Very creamy and not overly sweet. My Capri breakfast sandwich had in house pesto and it was soooo good. Mmm! The bread it was on was so good too. Hadn't been to this location in several years. Went in yesterday afternoon to get an espresso, and good god what a horrorshow! There was next to no one in the place. Most staff were just casually standing around doing nothing. The person at the register was pushy and seemed like they were trying to get me out the door as though I was inconveniencing them. I even asked if they were closing soon, to which they snarkily replied "no, not yet!" (It was 4pm on a Saturday). There was no one else in line behind or in front of me, yet (I kid you not) the barista took FIFTEEN minutes to make me a shot of espresso. He was very casually and apathetically making one drink at a time, using only one side of the machine. I asked if the other side of the machine was out of order, to which he angrily responded "NO, but there are things going on behind the scenes that you don't know about!" I dunno what's going on with this place but it was a cesspool of bad vibes and apathetic staff. Will never return. read more

I've been several times to Frothy Monkey at this location. I like the atmosphere here - big space, outdoor space, light, airy. Only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I feel it's inconsistent and I don't understand that. Frothy Monkey was one of the first places we went to when we were thinking about moving here. Actually met our wonderful Realtor here and thought "hey this is great - we can get used to this!" This last visit, we met a friend coming through town and suggested Frothy Monkey. Service was great, very friendly staff - unfortunately the food wasn't great?? This was breakfast - all three of our choices were not great. A little disappointing, especially since we had recommended meeting our friend here. I'm not writing it off and will try again, just hoping it will be better next time. read more
