Hadn't been to Jonsey's in 25+ years, was back in town and wanted to take my fiancée and our son to…read morebrunch before getting on the river. When we walked in, we stood there as there were no signs saying to seat ourselves, the place was just over 1/2 capacity and it wasn't long before a woman told us to go ahead and sit anywhere. The interior was like stepping back in time, I could visit that diner everyday and still not see every piece of nostalgia on the wall. Off to a good start. Our waitress came over to us somewhat quickly, however, she sighed & seemed agitated. We ordered our drinks & she just left. We ordered fried mushrooms and mozz sticks as apps & told her when she came back w/ our drinks. Again she sighed & seemed annoyed, but left to put our order in. After we'd all decided on our meals, we closed our menus so she wouldn't think we were still looking, but we had to wait till our appetizers were there to tell her we were ready to order. It was then she sighed aloud and ripped her notepad out & I could feel this woman's negative energy exuding from her, so we quickly ordered without any ?s about the menu because she was already extremely rude & we just wanted to eat. The portions were good, but after appetizers and a few bites of our food, and a rude waitress, we decided to pack it up and go. That's when my son noticed the sign for ice cream at $1.50 a scoop, I did flag her down and ask her for "to go BOXES", plural, as she could clearly see we had three plates still full of food, she literally just walked away from us and didn't say a single word. She heard me, she sat the checks down for us to pay and walked away again. She eventually made it back to our table with ONE to go box. We needed 3 total, without packing any of the apps we had left. I asked if vanilla was the only flavor of i.c., she responded, "Yes, but I don't have cones, it'll have to be in a bowl." I told her that's not a problem & my son chimed in that he wanted two scoops & she started to walk away again, without a word. That's when my fiancée spoke up and said, "We will also need more to go boxeS too please!" This woman literally ROLLED HER EYES AT US and stormed off!! I had to look at my fiancée and say, "Don't say a thing. Let's get our ice cream and boxes and just go." At least 5 minutes passed till she walked by and TOSSED a to go box onto our table and kept walking. No ice cream, and again, ONE to go box! At that point I said, forget it, let's just go, so I gathered the checks & went to the register. While standing there, I was able to ask the man cooking for a to go box and he happily obliged. 3x of asking for boxes to get our three plates of food to go. As I stood at the register, a man came in for a to go order and had a seat at the barstool, another woman sitting in the first booth seemed to be waiting as well. Once the man walked in and sat down, the waitress came to the register and I said, "If you can just put that ice cream in a to go cup, we'll take it with us." She looked at me dismissively and said, "I've got to ring him out first." No problem, I don't mind waiting, even though I was standing there before he walked in, his was a to go order, so I waited patiently. She rung him out & then she looked around me to the lady in the booth & asked if she had an order, thankfully the woman saw me said, "You can go ahead and help her." Then and only then did she reach for my check to ring me up, I mentioned to her, add those two scoops of ice cream please. She looked at me and said, "There's actually an ice cream place right down the road, specifically for ice cream." I've never had an employee try to NOT sell me dessert & recommend that I get it from another business! I was already short on time so I said to her, "If you don't want to sell us ice cream, just say that." She said, "No, I'm just suggesting it, I'll get his ice cream. But for future reference, it's right down the road." I told her thanks for the suggestion, but we'll wait, it's not a problem & a short time later, she came back, forcing the small cup & spoon down with such haste that the spoon literally bounced back off the table. I still tipped 30% of the check, whereas some people may have not left a cent, but I wasn't going to let her miserable attitude cause me and my family to be miserable as well, so I handed her the cash & told her as sweet as I could, "I hope that your day gets better!" She didn't bother responding. Side note: I am a woman, married to another woman, I came in wearing a (fully covering) dress over my bathing suit, and I'm 6'1", hard not to notice that I wasn't from around there, but I hope she doesn't treat all newcomers with the same disrespect because they'll never gain new customers that way.

I got chicken strips, my husband ordered a burger and we shared tots. The tots were HUGE. We probably could have just shared them with no other food! Service was kind - cash or local check only, so make sure you have a way to pay!

The ice cream is creamy and smooth and not too sweet. There is always a flavor for everyone to try! The workers are also always super kind and attentive. For example they had a cookies and cream flavor unlike the common recipe and uses chocolate ice base. I also tried the London Fog tea flavor which was unique and very bright on the tongue. There were a few dairy free and vegan options but not many. You can check their facebook or call ahead to see those selections if needed. The shop offers ice cream scoops in all sizes and even kids eat free with an adult purchase. There is seating in the shop and outside for good weather days. It is pretty accessible as the front door and bathroom doors were light to pull open. The view to see the ice cream selection was at a reasonable height for folks in wheelchairs and kids to see everything well. This shop is very LGBTQ friendly and offers as a great space to gather for everyone who wants to enjoy a sweet treat.
