Good, not great burger (3 stars) but the onion rings are outstanding (thin cut with good batter and right amount of salt - 5 stars) and quite addictive - been back a couple of times since initial visit because of the friendly service and onion rings. Great charcoal grilled burgers. I can recall the old Jim's Frontier that was on corner of Babcock & Lp 410 as a kid... And I've missed it! Glad to see they've revived the concept! I'm a flame grilled fan when it's about burgers. Can't beat that smoky goodness. The interior boasts of the nostalgia one might expect of a bygone era and it's pure down home. Staff was friendly replete with smiles, and I got the impression they generally enjoy being there-rare to see that in a fast food joint. Decided to give this place a try since MAD Max burgers is closed on Mondays. Was very disappointed. Meat was over cooked old and dry. Meat seems to have been sitting under a heat lamp. Fries were cold and old. Sent the order back and requested a fresh order. Only to get re dipped old fries and cold meat . The cheese wouldn't even melt. By far the worst burger I've ever eaten. I think Frontier Burger gets a hard time from reviewers because the burgers are being judged in comparison with all burgers instead of only fast-food burgers. I'd say the burger itself here is a mix between Whataburger and Burger King, and is a true fast-food burger. Not a restaurant burger. The fries were good, the burger was good, the ice tea was good. For an idea of ranking, I'd come her over McDs or BK any day, but probably have to toss a coin with Whataburger or Five Guys. read more

This review is directed at all El Paso expatriates living in SATX. Remember the Charcoaler in El Paso? Well, Frontier Burger is the Charcoaler reincarnated. Try the #6 and the onion rings on Frontier's menu. If that doesn't remind you of the Charcoaler I don't know what does. If only Frontier had pineapple fried pies I would be in heaven!! Since the Frontier was probably started way before the Charcoaler (I think Charcoaler was started in the late '60's) I'll give them dibs on inventing the burger with the hickory BBQ sauce. Had lunch here with a friend. The line was quick and they brought out our food out quickly and thanked us for coming. Wow, and told us to have a great day. We had the frontier cheeseburger and I had the crinkle fries and my friend had the thin and crispy onion rings, we shared of course. The Burger was so good, hot and crisp lettuce with the right kind of textured tomato and pickles. Self serve on the refills for drinks always a plus. The place is clean and decor is sweet. You can smell the grilled burgers before you get there. They have drive thru too. I didn't have room for the fried pie, boo. Old school San Antonians are sure to find themselves reminiscing about their own memories of frontier burgers from back in the day. read more

I believe it was 1969 or 1970. When Frontier Burger was on Broadway next to the Witte. I loved their burgers and onion rings then and to my delight the NEW Frontier Burger is exactly the same except for the interior. Well done to all who saw Jim's dream become a reality!! It only takes me an hour to drive there, I will be back. To the staff who are so friendly, especially the Manager, who made his rounds to ask people if everything was wonderful and the employee who said "This is the BEST place I have ever worked" , well done. I was ready for a good experience and am a regular at Jim's on Huebner, where the cooks and wait staff make a $7 burger worth it. I went in around 8pm Wednesday and had no problem parking or ordering inside. The atmosphere is "brand new with very bright fluorescent lights in a dropped ceiling". No music, no plants, no memorabilia other than a reproduction menu but does have free wifi. The atmosphere at Longhorn Cafe, Bill Miller's or one of Jim's Restaurants is far better. Looking for a turkey burger or grilled chicken so it was grilled chicken, fries and drink. The standard is ranch sauce, tomatoes and lettuce on the sandwich so I asked to cut the ranch, tomatoes and add mustard, pickles and onions. Was given a number and went to the self serve Pepsi (no Coke products) machine and waited maybe 10 minutes. Fries were good but the sandwich was lukewarm at best, the bun was not toasted, the chicken had no smoked or marinated flavor and the pickles and onions were missing. By now the counter was busy and no one was asking about the meal (as they would at Jim's). Noticeable lack of young customers in the place, looked like lot's of older folks trying to relive their youth. read more

Texas has some good fast food, but I'd say this is a very strong contender to be one of the best burgers. Met up with my co workers here for lunch and it was busy. I ordered the bacon cheese burger combo and got my meal in about five minutes more or less and the fries come in a nice paper Frontier cup and the burger was wrap in Frontier paper which was a nice presentation,also they have my favorite soda Big Red!! at the assessable soda dispenser so you can get your own refills,if they the employees don't ask you if you want a refill first. The place is clean,employees are kind,they have TVs,but the volume was off when we was eating there or maybe it was just too loud that it was on low volume and we couldn't hear it. The burger was three star rating and the fries the same. My co workers like their meals,but I had better as far as my meal and if I can compare the burger it would be Five Guys Burger and Fries.I will be coming back to to try a different combo and will update my review then. "We close in 45 minutes just to let you know, your okay right now, but if someone tells ya something just so you know" then she tried to sell use their fiesta medals at $6 each or 3 for $20... regardless of that we devices to try it we were hungry, we were already there... the burger was okay, it taste like Burger King.. the sweet was EHH... but the fries were very very good... Crinkle Fries !!! There's nothing explicitly wrong with Frontier Burger--the food is okay, the place is tidy, and, fueled by equal parts nostalgia and novelty, it's popular. And if you're just going for the onion rings, then I won't stand in your way. But, if you're looking for a flame-broiled burger, the sad truth is that you'll probably pay less and have more options at the closest (shrug) Burger King? I mean... Miracle-Whip-based sauce? Iceberg lettuce? Not even a real lemon to be found to squeeze in your water or tea? They can do better, but they don't seem to have to at the moment. It's entirely up to you. This is my third time here and let me tell you; after you eat this burger, the debate between What-A-Burger and In-N-Out best burger will be a joke! This is not even close! For some reason I expect this burger to taste like a Burger King burger every time I come here because they are both char-broiled, but I leave here blown away! So I go through the drive-thru and the gentleman tells me my meals going to be 5 something I get to the the window toupee and the lady says it will be $9 and something so I called them up and ask him why they give me their excuse but they said will give you a free meal then I go through the drive-thru again and they told me no we're not giving you a free meal we don't do that you can pay 7 this place is terrible overly priced and I will never go back here again read more
