Wanted to go out for some basic Mexican food and decided on Frontera Grill, which replaced Plaza Azteca (sad). We were seated and presented with complimentary chips and salsa and served our drinks pretty promptly. The salsa was a poor excuse for salsa.. there were clearly visible herbs in it but lacked flavor and pretty much tasted like watered down tomatoes. We placed our orders and food came out fairly quick. I had the enchiladas while my boyfriend feasted on some steak fajitas. Not sure if this is the new standard but prices were kinda steep for what it was. Nevertheless, food was tasty. There was just one guy serving the whole floor so we waited at least twenty minutes after finishing out meals to get the check, and then another ten to get our card back. We came on a Thursday evening and it wasn't quite that busy so it was mostly due to the understaffing. The four stars is a bit generous.. nothing really blew us away. read more

If you are craving Mexican food and a good margarita, Frontera Grill will not let you down. Let's start with the food, specifically the guacamole station. We had the option of adding mango to our guacamole as it was made right in front of us on a portable station. This is something that I had never tasted before, but it was so delicious that I know I will always want mango in my guac ! We were able to taste it, as it was being made, and our waitress allowed us to customize the guacamole with more cilantro and lime. Our entrees were delicious. I would absolutely recommend either the enchiladas borrachas or the carne asada burrito. All of the wait staff were incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. Not to worry, they were awesome at remembering to bring endless amounts of chips and salsa. I had the devil margarita, which was a margarita with red wine. I also tried the spicy hibiscus margarita, both of them were delicious. Although we did not dine outside, I was very impressed by their outdoor seating, and would love to go back in the warmer months. Inside was festive with a great vibrant energy. We love this place! It's so much better than the place that was in same location before. The food is so delicious and they give pretty big portions as well. We have eaten there outside since COVID and they took every precaution. we felt very safe and the drinks and food were great. We have done takeout a few times this winter and the food is always done very quickly, exactly what we ordered and always delicious. This is very good Mexican food. We tried Frontera Grill when we could not figure out another place to eat. We got really lucky. The service is outstanding and the server comes over with freshly made tortilla chips and what appears to be fresh, home made salsa. I ordered the baja fish tacos which were amazing. We had dined here when it was a previous restaurant and saw that it was closed, but we took a chance on this new place. After we sat, the menus then tap water (Disgusting chlorine-flavored town water) delivered quickly with complimentary chips (fresh) and yummy salsa. I had a Steak Fajita that was very good and my wife had Enchiladas that lacked the traditional toppings, and the black beans had no flavor. Took over the location belonging to the old macaroni grill. We went with my parents after original choice was 90 minute wait. We ordered of course medical food but my parents opted for American and bar staples. The Mexican menu items were great but they complained and it's like what did you expect. We were very impressed by the staff and the food at this restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had help ordering and were steered in the right direction. We loved the salsa (more wet than chunky) and chips. I could've eaten just that and left satisfied...but the Seafood Enchiladas were calling to me. The filling was sweet and salty the sauce was creamy and delicious. Our son had a chicken burrito and fries, which he finished without protest. I honestly can't remember what my husband had. Whatever it was, it was eaten so fast that I don't remember seeing it! We finished the meal off with a shared piece of Tres Leches Cake. I would highly recommend this cake. I have been to this specific location a few times in the past few months. Every time I have been here, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Food comes out promptly and the portions are fairly large. Is it authentic mexican? Nope. their chips are bagged, their cheese sauce is bagged, and the drinks are heavy on sugar. I have yet to find a place that does a good honest-to-goodness tamale or even some street corn. This place doesn't do authentic, it does american mexican. As an american mexican place, it does a pretty good job. I will say this, the cooks do know what they are doing there. We asked for hot sauce while there and instead of getting a bottle of tabasco we were presented with a fresh made green sauce with a good amount of heat. I suspect if the cooks had a run of the place, some really good authentic fare could be had. Would be a question if the people really want that, but they could try a special perhaps? Compared to the place that was here before, I think they do a better job. They excel at getting you copious amounts of food at a reasonable price for the area. The burrito was cut open in a way that caused all of the ingredients to spill out the moment I tried to pick it up, the chicken was dry, the salad was served with no silverware or dressing, and the salsa had an overwhelming flavor of Oregano which was very strange. This place used to be great. I was there for my last visit and ordered the steak Fajitas. The meat was tasteless. I let the server know about it and the manager came over. I explained to him that the meat was not seasoned. I always get the fajitas which had been very good in the past but today they tasted old with no seasoning. The waiter helped us with the menu and steered us in the right direction. Everything was to die for and we came home with a doggy bag. You suggested we come back for the Taco Tuesday's and we are so glad we did. The choices, the fresh veggies and array of food, and the quality was the best. I lived in Texas and everything was Tex-Mex and you are right in there with them. I won't be going out for Mexican food elsewhere as I found my place within Forntera Grill on a regular basis. I'm sorry I hate doing this...but tonight was absurd for my 23yr.old daughter and her 2 close friends that are the same age. What they experienced there tonight is unbelievable. Upon my daughter and her friends arrival the waitress asked for all their id's. They saw this waitress take their CT state drivers license's and Bend them all on her leg except when she got to the last one she bent it and it broke in half....my daughter's friend freaked out and was so upset. This waitress said that it MUST NOT BE A REAL LICENSE....WHAT??? is she kidding??? & didn't apologize... she spoke with manager for a few minutes and then came over and said we'll let this one slide so do you want another drink??? This is so unprofessional. My daughter and her friends say there trying to get them to pay for anther CT license that she now has to pay for. however while waiting the wait staff intimidated, pointed and laughed while walking by them. Then brought the wrong drinks back to them. Seriously??? what kind of place is this??? they were all upset and left after paying. Her friend went back in to demand money for a new license again. The manager,Jairo gave her $30.00cash and asked for a reciept. Unfortunately their night was ruined by them. This was unacceptable and will not recommend them. Four stars- in a kinder climate, I'd give 3. House margarita was fine, not fantastic, but tasty considering the price and size. The pork carnitas were good- these tend to be dry in many places but these were moist and tasty. Was my pork carnitas plate worth almost $18, no, but they were good. Chips were nice and warm. Salsa is a bit ketchup-y, but not horrible. Husband said that the southwestern quesadillas were a bit disappointing. BBQ chicken was just sliced chicken, not pulled so they were a bit tough to eat. This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant. It's better then anything we've had in the state or even when we visit Texas. The ingredients are fresh and the menu has a huge selection. I appreciate the vegetarian options. The burritos and enchiladas are delicious. We can't wait to bring our family from Houston here when they visit. The prices are very reasonable and the curbside is fast and the food is always hot when we get home. We can't wait to eat inside someday. This is my first time here. The place is huge. Daddy? It's dead as a door nail in here but it's still early. The menu is absolutely huge. The place is huge. The servers are Mexican along with the authentic music. House margaritas are $5 today (half price)! I'll start with one on those! It is served in a traditional pint glass. Tastes good and is made perfectly. Served quickly too. This place is killing my low salt diet! The chips are served in a HUGE basket and smell freshly cooked! They taste good and are very salty. The salsa is very good and has some kick. For my appetizer, I am trying the table side (small) guacamole. That's the small size?! The guacamole is really good! Note also the specially requested (olive colored) hot sauce. Yikes! That is hot ! I'm impressed! Definitely some habanero in there! Next up, I'm trying a (small) bowl of chicken tortilla soup. They use tender chunks of grilled chicken , chicken broth, green onions (scallions) and top it with slender tortilla chips. Very good! This is full of stock! The soup spoon is huge too. The tortilla chips are actually on the bottom. Low salt? Definitely not! For my entree, I'm going all out with the Fajitaaaaaas!!!!!! It's chicken for me. No tortillas (but they are included if you would like them), of course. These sizzling fajitas are made with red peppers , green peppers and onions . What's better than sautéed, caramelized onions ! It is also served with rice , beans (refried I'm guessing), pico de Gallo, sour cream, guacamole and tortillas (well, none for me). By the way, they don't cheat you on the alcohol . I can feel it already. For my next drink, I'm having a "Fresh Cucumber Margarita " . This is a garden-to-table drink, delicious and low calorie. It's a fresh mixture of lighter sour mix (which I prefer), fresh squeezed lime, Premium Jimador Silver tequila with freshly muddled cucumber . The fajitas broke the all-time record! I think they came out in 5 minutes! That might be generous too (it felt like 2 at most)! This is a huge amount of chicken too! So the small vs. large specialty margaritas are only $1 ($12 vs. $13) more. However, the small is 16oz but the large is 22oz! You can't go wrong with the 22oz for a $1 (6 oz for a $1)! However, I did stick to the small since I'm driving home. Yummy . Very refreshing! Time for dessert. For the first time ever, I am trying a Mexican cake . I didn't know this even existed. Tres Leches is allegedly "Mexico's favorite cake." It is soaked in three "luscious" milks and covered with a silky white cream topping. Note the red cup with the napkins and the spoon. Oh yeah. Top authentic Mexican food in the area. First off the customer service is 10/10. The wait staff and bartenders are great and very nice and on top of everything. When you go you are given complimentary chips and salsa that are amazing. The chips are hot and salted perfectly, while the salsa hit all the right notes. I came on a Tuesday so I ordered their special on taco Tuesday and got the "world best taco" and if that was an actual award I would believe they won. I have been going here for lunch over the last few months, about twice a week. The service is excellent, quick, and extremely friendly. The food is delicious. If you like TexMex this place is for you. My only criticism is that the waiters assume I want a hard shell for my tacos, you can get soft shell if you ask (I always forget). As far as ambiance, it would be average in my opinion. Sort of like going to a Chili's... average feel to it... ignore that the food is much better than any Chili's that I've been too, and the people seem friendlier. read more
