Prior to Saturday, June 17th, '23, I had been to Trigger Time once with a long-standing member of the club. Even though I have shot a great number of guns there - as well as out in the wilderness - I knew that I needed formal instruction. The father & son teaching the class together were superb (Perry & Troy Morris). Both certified by the NRA, I knew that these two men were the real deal. [They also struck me as really good humans.]    The lecture portion of the course was nicely jazzed up with humor and interaction, and the Powerpoint presentation itself wasn't a snoozer like so many Power Points wind up being. These astute learning leaders maintained our attention and alertness by providing frequent breaks and interesting facts throughout the day.   Regarding the hands-on portion of the class, Troy and Perry were marvelously encouraging and provided the perfect amount of assistance & intervention.  From loading and proper grip to stance & hitting the target, the father & son team made the experience downright enjoyable. Since taking the class, my intimidation and fear in handling guns has diminished greatly and my basic pistol skills seem more solidified. That being said, I am going to recommend the Pistol Basics class - and Trigger Time, the business itself, particularly to other women.

This is a private gun club with several public shooting events. They promote shooting sports and…read moreshooting safety for the whole family. From their website : The objectives of the club include : "1. The encouragement of organized rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooting among residents of the County of Larimer and nearby locations, with a view towards a better knowledge on the part of such persons of the safe handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship. 2. The encouragement of hunting and fishing and related activities and to further the development of those characteristics of honesty, fellowship and good sportsmanship among its members and the public in general. 3. The promotion and support of conservation programs and wise management of wildlife. 4. To foster understanding by the general public, and especially its non-hunting members, of the need for game management through regulated hunting, and to build a greater rapport between sportsmen and landowners on whose lands we would like to fish and hunt. 5. The promotion of the highest degree of sportsmanship and good fellowship among the membership of the Club, and the prevention of unsportsmanlike conduct." I have been to this range on several occasions. The first time was for a first shots rifle class many years ago with my girl scouts. They were interested in trying the class. I was really scared though as i had been scared of guns my whole life. Coming out of the class though i felt more educated and found i did enjoy shooting. I came back for a first shots hand gun and first shots shot gun class. And also enjoyed their annual rimfire carnival one year. They limit their membership to 800 folks and sign up/registration is the beginning of august.

It was a calm bright summer day- beautiful on the lake but it can make for slow fishing in mid-summer. Jed got us on fish, bite was slow but steady. I would highly recommend Jed and I look forward to fishing with him again!

Plenty of lanes makes it easy to grab a spot even on a busier weekend day. Three different public ranges all with cover and sound enclosures on three sides. Ranges include: one for pistols and rim fire, one for any firearm (rifle, pistol, carbine), and a third for shotguns. Shotgun range has clay target launchers that are in great condition and well maintained. We normally stop at Murdochs in Silverthorne to stock up on ammo and clays before we head out the range. Great way to teach the kids how to handle firearms responsibly and/or get guns sighted for hunt season. Range Safety Officers are great, but are all volunteers and not on-site all them time.

We've gone shooting at a couple indoor ranges in Denver/Lakewood, we've been shooting out in Lost Park near Jefferson. Neither situation had me feeling 100% comfortable. The indoor shooting centers were full of gun bros who weren't friendly and were intimidating, scoffing at lack of knowledge. And not chill. Being outside in a national forest area is cool, but you also have a lot to watch out for and be careful about. You have to pick your spot wisely. We pulled off in Keystone up the road toward the public shooting range. It's also the road to the landfill. Avoid the line--if there is one, drive around it to the left and squeeze in to the right (through the line) and around the weigh-in station. Continue up the road a little bit, and you're there. Park along the road, and walk on up. It's free. It's also very well maintained. They provide free earplugs, duct tape to hang targets--they even provide targets for free! One range is for police only (and was in use and a little scary/cool to watch). One range is for shotguns and trap shooting. The other two ranges are for yer other guns. One is covered, one isn't. All they ask is that you clean up your trash and brasses. We can all do that, right? It was a Tuesday afternoon when we went. There were a couple families with small and early teens kids, teaching them about guns, a younger couple, and a couple dudes. Everybody was friendly, and cooperated when the range was cold. Plus, look around you. Ignore the landfill below, and check out the mountains all around. It's GORGEOUS here. Again, it's free. They have a very small, humble donation box to help keep up the range. I feel like $5-10 per visit would be fair for them to charge, so cash comes in handy.
