Its a small bbq joint thats a little unassuming on the outside, but super delicious. Me and my friends came in about 40 minutes until closing and the staff were very friendly, and helpful. The food was amazing as well. We shared the pulled chicken plate and bbq brisket plate between the three of us. Each plate came with two sides and two corn bread muffins, and was more than filling for all of us. After an exhausting hike up the incline on a beautiful Monday morning, my friends and I decided to venture into Old Colorado City. While cruising through the downtown area, windows rolled down in a U-Haul pickup, a wonderful barbecue aroma filled the single cab. Instantly, we decided we must replenish our depleted energy sources with a hearty meat-filled dish. To be honest, we were looking for a backyard barbecue to just venture into, but were pleasantly surprised by an average looking restaurant on the exterior. Upon entry, we knew this location was anything but average. Our waitress provided us with the southern comfort type sentiment that complemented the food which was served to us. From cheese curds to fried okra to a full rack of ribs with sweet tea on the side, I couldn't have had a more satisfactory dining experience. Unfortunately we were an hour too early for the live music, but I'm sure that would have been the factor to allow me to give this establishment five stars. Additionally, Guy Fieri has visited this wonderful restaurant, which if that floats your boat, is definitely something to consider when agreeing to dine here. Please note this is from a TexaSippian perspective, so I've eaten a lot of brisket, had a lot sweet tea, and I'm always looking for the perfect pecan pie. First, my guy Brian was great. I'm a sucker for good customer service. We ordered our food to go, but he offered me a sweet tea while I waited. Loved the sweet tea. Not too sweet, not too syrupy with sugar. The BBQ sauce was tasty. I preferred the sweet one over the original. The original had a little heat to it. The sweet potato roll for the sandwich was good. The brisket was decent. We were looking around for some place to have an early dinner, and I found this place on yelp and it looked good. It was awesome. Really awesome. Our server was super prompt, and very friendly. She asked us if we wanted some drinks and apps - we opted for the drinks and asked her to come back to take our order. The drinks came out promptly. I'm the only one who had something alcoholic - I had a Jack and diet, and it was well made and had a decent amount of Jack in it. There were 5 adults and we all ordered various types of bbq platters or sandwiches. The food also came out very promptly. We had a little bit of everything, and swapped tastes of different things. Hate to break the high rating pattern, but my boyfriend and I were not impressed with this restaurant. We took a day trip to Colorado Springs and decided to eat here for lunch (my pick - sorry boyfriend!). There's lots of street parking which is a bonus. When we walked in we were seated by a waitress which is when things started going downhill. Even though there were a bunch of open tables, she seated us right next to a table with a small, loud kid (one of the chairs was right up against the kid's high chair). The mom did a great job of telling the kiddo to use his inside voice, but two year olds are two year olds and it's the first time I've been on a date and seated right next to a kid when there are quieter sections. More on the service - my boyfriend did not get a refill the whole time and when our waitress brought the check, he asked for one. She turned super rude and seemed like it was a weird question to ask and brought him back his glass half filled (!). As for the food, I got the combo plate with brisket (which was over cooked) and chicken. My boyfriend got a burger that tasted funny. He got cramps almost immediately after lunch and it's been about eight hours and my stomach is killing me and I haven't wanted to eat anything else since. Our son said we had to try this place and we were all pleased! And he doesn't like BBQ but said they had great bacon cheeseburgers - which he had with delicious fries. Another ordered the Spicy Caesar Salad and said it was delicious and not too spicy. My husband and I went with good ol' pulled port with the spicy BBQ sauce - I highly recommend it!! We made the decision to try this place based on all the great Yelp reviews. We ended up circling the block a few times....first to figure out exactly where it was located, and then to find a parking spot (which was a challenge). Was it worth the effort? YES!! First, the restaurant is a bit funky. It looks like they converted a small home into a restaurant. The building is old and the décor dark. Character established. While I was waiting for our food, I see "Guy Ate Here" hanging on the wall. Now my expectations are rising. The food comes out: I had the ribs and fries and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. We came over on Halloween Night. Most places were having parties for later at night or they were mostly drinking parties. We were delighted to find a place where we could go have a sit down dinner in full costume. It was super awesome. The place was packed to the brim with people wearing all sorts of fun costumes. The atmosphere was energetic and fun also thanks to the live music. We only had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table and in the mean time got some drinks at the bar and went to sit outside on the deck. When we got our table we ordered a chicken plate and a sausage plate. Each one came with a side of 2 cornbread muffins, fried onion rings (which I declined) and two sides. I ordered some french fries (homemade) and creole rice and beans. My partner in crime ordered green beans and baked beans. It was a lot of food and we took most home for the next day. After we sat at the table the waiter asked us if we had a tab at the bar. I told him no that we had paid for our drinks (a coke and a shirley temple) and he kept refilling them for us free of charge. I thought that was SUPER nice. We had a lot of fun and we were delighted to find a place that did not charge a door fee just to show up in costume. Kudos for that. There was someone sitting in a booth with our order. Other people were ordering takeout back there too. It would have helped to have a sign with Front Range on it in the back. Saw this place on tv so I thought I have to check this place out. Guy Fieri recommend it, it must be good. I then proceeded to read the reviews and really thought I should skip it. But pressed for time and really craving some BBQ I thought who cares lets try this place. So this is an old house that was converted to a restaurant. This place is just too small, the front porch is used as a eating area and to the side is the the host stand. The inside is painted in a dark color so it makes it feel even smaller. There is tons of stuff on wall making it feel more cluttered. Once you are inside there is some bar area and a room that I was walked into for seating. It had two booths and some stand alone tables. I immediately felt claustrophobic. I asked if there was a table we would go to in the patio area instead. This patio area is at the side of the house. There is a stage so music is played on certain days. I can see how this might be some niece place to hang out (patio area )if the food is good. I ordered hush puppies, Smoked Ribs Combo - smoked ribs and brisket , sides were Cole slaw and the crispy onions. There was also a pulled chicken sandwich that was ordered. In the mean time I went to the rest room. It was being used for storage and it was just dark it was cleaned in terms of no trash on floor. The kitchen was next to it and just from what I saw it looked dirty. I then had second thoughts because I remembered the bad reviews and was suddenly scared to get sick. When I got back to table my food was there. Hush puppies were too crispy but the taste was decent. The Cole slaw was good but lacked seasoning, the brisket was dry, tasteless, the ribs were tasteless, hard and super dry. The pulled chicken sandwich was also dry. Tried the different sauces but food was not edible. The patio tables outside are just too small as well. The table was crammed with the 4 plates and drinks you barely had room. Makes it harder for the waiters/waitress to put plates down. Our waitress was very polite and attentive. Too bad the food sucked no amount of sauce helped my food taste better. I gave this place a try I went in with high hopes. Had open mind to the bad reviews but its definitely a no go. No offense to the owner who probably put in a lot of time and effort on having a successful restaurant but do take advice given in these reviews. Its time for a new cook, or recipes, paint the place a bright color, clean it up take all the clutter off the walls. This place might have been good at one point not sure what happened but maybe its time to get out of the restaurant business. I can deal with a small place as long as its clean and food is good.
