We went on a Friday at 8pm to listen to the live music. Logan was an excellent performer. He plays here regularly. The staff was amazing. They checked on us regularly. I had the tiki train wreck drink that is a summer special. It had baileys, kahlua, pineapple juice, rum and ice cream powder in it. Tasted like dessert. Logan performed 6:30-9:30. It was a fun crowd. This is an INN and a bar combo. You don't need to be staying at the INN to enjoy the bar but know they do close at 11pm so it's a lot earlier than the local bars and tavern. Lots of live music and outstanding opportunities to get great drinks at a reasonable price. Love that they put sports on so my husband can enjoy sports while I listen to music. This is one of the BEST places I have been to for an original margarita. Large parking lot, the restrooms for the tiki bar are port a potties but they are nice and clean. The owners of the Springbrook Inn and Frog Tiki Bar always go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great experience. We stayed at the Inn on a Tuesday night not realizing the Tiki Bar was closed on Tuesdays. When we checked in and learned of this, I expressed my disappointment that we couldn't get the awesome tenderloin bites. The owner said he would make us the bites for dinner and then they decided to open the bar for the guests that were staying at the Inn and we were able to get a few drinks and the bites. If they had been wearing masks, they would have earned a 4 star. 4 of us went out for the first time. We had 2 appetizers. The crab stuffed mushrooms had a mornay sauce. There were 4 to an order. We also had the 1/2 pound order of shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. I had the steak sliders. They had mushrooms, grilled onions and Swiss cheese. The au jus was good, not too salty. .the steak bites were beautifully seasoned with a nice horseradish sauce. There was a baguette that came with the steak bites. Extremely overpriced for what they're serving, I had the enchiladas w chicken and avocado, I'm a huge Mexican food fan and I can cook it from scratch. The enchiladas were not very good the sauce is almost a pasta sauce of some kind, probably for spaghetti? If you can't make real Mexican flavors which is coriander and cumin, plus some other basic ingredients , you shouldn't be serving Mexican food and Mex-Tex is an aberration to Mexican cuisine so if they're calling this mex-Tex or something similar they should just take it off the menu. Every bar in Houghton lake makes some form of mex-Tex and I've eaten it at every single bar in this town. These enchiladas were flavorless and tasted like spaghetti sauce they put on it! In closing this is a cute bar but extremely overpriced for what they're serving. If you're going to charge $22+ for Mexican food it had better be homemade and the best Mexican food you've ever had, you can go to Rancheros in west branch and get the real deal for half the price! The springbok Inn thinks it's some upscale place to eat which it isn't, it's one step above a bar setting but not by much. Their chefs or I should say cooks because no actual trained chefs work in Houghton Lake and if this cook is trained he should be ashamed of his lack of skills, since Mexican is the easiest and cheapest food to create!!!! read more

This place is cool! It was hopping on a Saturday night unlike the adjoining Springbrook Inn. Service was good, and the setting is just gorgeous. It's set around this little pond they made and there's moving water and little art work decorating the area. They had live music-when man playing a guitar and singing. He was pretty decent. He covers a lot of different types of music. They had typical barfood than burgers etc. we did not eat here so I can't vouch for the food but the Apple teeny was nice! read more

The food was awful, dry, and my friends food was undercooked quite horribly. We also asked for a chair for my other friend for his ailing back, as the one he was using was making it hurt more. The waitstaff, then manager, then owner were all asked if a new chair could be provided, but each said that there was a "no chair moving" policy (whatever that is)... Apparently they don't want any more customers, because they're doing a swell job of keeping those with very small needs away. Been frequenting the Tiki Bar for several years now and my last few visits have not been as pleasant. The staff is rude at times and needs to be reminded that the customers are bringing $$$. In particular the hostess, she acts as though you are fortunate to get a seat, even though the place is half full. The food is still pretty good, but the burgers aren't being served to the same standard, and they refuse to make fries in the summer. We visited the frog tiki bar today for lunch. The bar is very cute and decorated very appealingly. The food was good. The reason for only one star is that the service was very slow and the bar tender Erin was very rude. We spoke to the manager about Erin's attitude. Never have I been treated the way I was in this establishment. We arrived as a party of 4 on Saturday July 27th. We proceeded to give our name to the "Owner as we were advised", in which we were told there was a wait. We proceeded to the bar area where there were open stools to order a drink while we waited. Immediately the disturbed owner came over to the bar tender and advised her not to make our drinks, which we were perplexed. I asked the bar tender to confirm the bar stools were open seating. She seemed as equally confused as we were. After a good 5 minutes she was allowed to serve us drinks but confirmed we could not walk outside where the music was to drink them. Fast forward another 10 minutes one of the people we were with noticed a table of co-workers from down state and was speaking to them for a few moments. Then proceeded back to the door to confirm we were still wanting a table since there were open tables. The "owner" proceeded to tell him we would not be getting a table at all because we cut the line? Complete nonsense and I cannot believe any small business would operate this way, when patrons spent money while waiting for a table at your business. We will NEVER return to this place, I guess she can run her business the way she wants with a complete lack of respect for paying customers, and the food was terrible (which we had to eat at the bar because we were refused), and took forever. read more

My cousin was visiting from downstate to celebrate my birthday and when I explained this place and mentioned I'd yet to try, she decided we needed to come! So glad we did. We arrived when they had just opened and we sat at a high top facing the bar. The inside reminds me of a crab shack you'd find on the east coast. So much to look at. Very casual but lively environment with island style music. Really captured the tiki bar mood easily here. Felt tropical and very summer. The drinks were both made very well and priced perfectly. Happy to actually taste the liquor. We shared stuffed mushrooms which are MASSIVE and very cheesy. You can taste the crab though. We each only ate one mushroom and took the rest to go. She got the Cesar salad and added the fresh bread which was fresh and warm. Well plated and fresh salad. I got the bbq chicken sandwich which came with kettle chips. The sandwich was on toasted chiabatta bread and had grilled pineapple slices, bbq sauce, grilled chicken and red onion. I loved every single bite. Can't wait to go back! This novelty bar sounded neat and the decorations were funny and interesting, but I wouldn't know anything about the food or drinks. We weren't allowed entry because we had an 11 month old baby with us. You'd think with a sign saying 21+ they'd be referring to teenagers or at least kids who may want to run around and touch everything, but you're really afraid of a baby sitting with their parents while they get something to eat?
