Very well impressed with my visit for an estimate on my 2001 PT Cruiser's a/c not cooling enough and compressor fast cycling on and off. Carlos, the owner, did a quick inspection with his gauges, flashlight, etc, and concluded it was low on refrigerant and the most probable source of the leak was at the evaporator in this model car. We agreed that repair would probably cost more than the car and since I had one of those DIY refrigerant containers and knew how to do it, I opted for that. He didn't charge me anything and refused a small cash payment which I offered. I am very impressed with finding such honesty and not trying to make a few bucks with a fake diagnosis. Excellent shop to get your car's a/c problems fixed!!! I had bought a new complete A/C Compressor Kit at AutoZone for around $430. Brought it in to Frio Car to get the new compressor installed. The head mechanic, Carlos Pineda, removed my old compressor and installed the new one and added fresh refrigerant and only charged me $321 for the job. He got the job done in a little under 3 hours!!! Very reasonable labor rates compared to the big name auto repair places where they will charge outrageous quotes well over $1000 to even over $2000!!! This A/c company is small but let me tell you there are by far the cheapest and fastest works I have ever met. I have a 2005 Navigator and the a/c went to crap. I spent days looking for an a/c mechanic and everyone was giving these out rages estimates it was insane. I found this place by the grace of god. The owner told me it would be $650 plus tax to put in a new compressor. I was like oh my god why didn't I come here first and waste my time shopping around. I dropped of the car on a Friday in the morning and he called me at around 4 telling me come pick the car up and bring a sweater. He did such an amazing job. Went to Friocar to get my AC serviced. 2 years ago, I had brought a new AC compressor that I bought from Autozone to have it installed. Friocar did a very good job. Only paid for the labor. But today, wow things have changed at Friocar. I stopped by to have my AC serviced because now it wasn't blowing cold. So the mechanic hooked up the gauges and found that the low pressure port was reading way too high. He then told me that they could not do the AC evac and recharge and that I needed to replace the same compressor that I had installed with the same Friocar place 2 years ago. First of all, new AC compressors bought from a reputable company like Autozone don't just go bad in 2 years. The mechanic told me that it would cost me over $1,000 to fix the AC. So, I left Friocar and went to Naulin Auto Service, who were just a few minutes west. I was able to get my AC problem solved there for a little over $110. Naulin told me that I was only low in refrigerant, about 30 percent low. Naulin was way more professional than Friocar. I could not believe that Friocar would pull off such a scam like that and try to rip me off just like all the other chain auto repair shops that have very high overhead costs! Very dishonest and unprofessional on Friocar's part! I will never, ever go back to Friocar! They unfortunately showed their true colors and dishonesty today. Very, very disappointed and disheartened with Friocar's poor service. Good riddance Friocar! read more
