I had my first gel nails application done one week ago at Frilly Lilly- today I had them redone elsewhere!! Please do not go here. They were horrible! Thick, uneven & bloodied cuticles was what I got. I was very dissappointed because I read good reviews but my experience was anything but good. I went to the Aspen location in Calgary and the nail tech said she had 5 years experience but I do not believe it. I went to Frilly Lilly for my first brazilian wax after years of being a shaver. I'm going on a 3 week trip soon so I wanted to get in a couple of appointments before hand. I didn't really know anything about the staff so I just let the online booking system put me in with Claudia. First off, I should say that I did do a little price checking before hand, at various salons and spas in the inner city. Most of them seemed a little steep and the reviews were only ok. I checked out FL's website and found that their price - $68 for a brazilian - was quite good compared to the other places I had checked. On top of that, the reviews were very positive. The shop itself is very cute. Lots of frilly decorations and their products are displayed very nice. It almost felt like hanging out in Versailles with Marie Antoinette. The receptionist was quick and professional. Claudia came out and introduced herself and brought me into the room, where I was asked to drop trou and get onto the table. The waxing itself wasn't painless, considering that I'd always shaved, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some ladies make it - I don't know if that's pain tolerance or the difference in technique, but it was definitely liveable. Claudia really is my ideal aesthetician - quick and not too chatty. Not because I don't like talking to people, but I don't know how much of a conversation I want to have while having my lady parts slathered in hot wax. Anyway, she did a great job and I was very pleased with the results. Overall, I was very pleased with my service and I would certainly go back. The prices for other services, like eyebrow waxing, are quite a lot less than what I pay at a downtown hair salon so I will probably switch to them as well. I went to the Mission location on Saturday and walked out plenty happy! This place is definitely excellent for waxing - even in our more, aha, sensitive areas. I have extremely sensitive skin and bruise very easily, so I was a bit nervous walking in to have my full legs done, and, feeling adventurous and possibly extremely masochistic, opted for a brazillian as well. The only thing that hurt, and this is extremely common with all waxes, was the back of my legs. You'd think it would be other places, but no! Erin is absolutely wonderful at what she does and she's very chatty and good at keeping your mind off of the waxing. The decor is very feminine and cute, and that was nice - the lighting was also gorgeous! They use fresh individual pots of wax for everyone and that's nice to see. Erin explained exactly how to keep and maintain my new waxes and help prevent ingrown hairs. Remember when I said when I bruised easily? She is actualy impressively skilled enough so that I actually walked away, and five days later, have no bruises. She's super, I just don't have enough good stuff to say about her. Absolute sweetheart. Lisa did my gel manicure afterwards, and she was quick and clearly very proficient with what she does, you can even see the moons of my nails, and the gel is thin enough to look natural while still being extremely sturdy - she's really cute and funny too, so that made the experience go very well. My only issue with the gel, and this may be because I'm unfamiliar with full care of these nails, is that after a shower I had some largeish bubbles on the sides of six my nails (you can't really see them unkless you are up close). I think quite a few things could have caused this, however. The nails are not peeling and certainly don't look or feel like they're about to, so I'm just waving it off as something that can happen once in a while, but I do believe it's worth mentioning. Also, while a ilttle pricy, the jewellery they have is really really cute and definitely up your alley if you're a fan of the indie look. Definitely going back. read more

I had a regular polish manicure and the tech was super friendly but she did 3 very thick coats and my nails took honestly hours to dry. It looked terrible after my fingers just brushed the insides of my sleeves to put my coat on, and I had the manicure and THEN a pedicure so there should have been plenty of time for my nails to dry. So, not my favourite but the staff were really nice. read more

I can usually always get an appointment within a few days of calling and while I always go to the same gal, Erin, everyone else seems friendly. I like that they have the multiple types of wax, not all parts of the body are made equal and different waxes are better for different areas. She's also amazing at eyebrows, she really takes her time and is very meticulous. I went to Frilly Lilly for the first time on Friday. I had a newer nail artist but she was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She was pleasant about having to scrape off the "shellac" that I received from another business (that turned out not to be shellac after all). There are a couple things that I really did like about this place: 1) The atmosphere! Usually I'm not in to the over-the-top pink look, but this place was elegantly done. 2) They do it all by hand. From removal to reapplication to French tip, it's all done by hand! 3) Personalized treatment. They didn't just guess that I wanted plain French nails. Maybe I want gems or fancy polish- they asked. Some opportunities for this place? 1) Services are quite a bit expensive (but are still a good value considering the high end service received) 2) I want to be able to do more with my shellac (think new nail trends in coloring) but am limited to the shellac colors 3) Location! There is no parking. I had to park 2 blocks away and walk there in the rain because street parking was either full or not allowed at the time of my appointment. It then took me over an hour to get home in traffic. And finally, it is too soon to tell how long the nails will last. I just got them on Friday but I'm hopeful! read more

It was my first time at Frilly Lilly and my first time at a salon in Calgary. I came from Ottawa where I had one esthetician of choice so I was nervous for something new. But the girls there made it a wonderful experience, Felicia was who I had my appointment with and she was just wonderful. She made me feel welcome and relaxed and she is very skilled at what she does. I got the Brazilian wax, which is never pleasant, but I can say for sure she made the experience the best one that I've had. I recommend her to anyone. I have been going here for my eyelash extensions for several years now. Never disappointed, I find the staff very professional and friendly. Equipment & bedding always appears clean. My lashes usually last at least 4 weeks looking beautiful. read more

EDIT: The manger, Jeremy, contacted me. He offered a full refund, a complimentary service (of my choice) and when I picked up the refund they also gave me a bottle of body lotion complimentary. Jeremy was polite and understanding. His service was much better then the receptionists I had spoken to. I'm still not super keen, but with a free service maybe it's worth a shot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I could give a lower rating, I would. I went in to get a facial wax (Tues Feb 3, mid-morning). having sensitive skin, I was very clear to the esthetician that I have sensitive skin and had taken precautions to ensure my face was clean and clear of irritants before arriving at the salon. She promised me that the wax was hypo-allergenic and she'd never heard of anyone reacting more than a bit of redness (which is to be expected). But after each time she ripped the wax off, she put her dirty, germy, bacteria-filled fingers on the newly hairless skin. This did not help the end result. Her fingers were not cold enough to offer the respite they're supposed to - and I had JUST finished telling her about how I'd been so careful to keep everything and anything away from my face. Well, I turned a lovely shade of tomato anywhere the wax touched before I left the salon (but I can live with that - usually this calms down in an hour or so afterwards). Well, six hours later I'm still very red and have to resort to a cool cloth (which didn't help much). Next morning (Wednesday), I woke up with a HUGE RASH all over my face, again anywhere the wax touched. Looks like I have a bad case of chicken pox all over my face (lip, sides of face and brows) which I can assure you is not an improvement to my looks. And I have to go to work in public. Can't put makeup on because that makes the rash worse, so I look like a swamp monster with my reddened and rashey face. Which is extra great because I had meetings with my Team Leaders and a few other people that day. Couldn't get in to the salon that day to seek help, so I went the day after (Thursday) . My skin is still red, irritated and full of rash bumps. The girl at the desk looked shocked (Because the chicken pox look hasn't faded or gotten any better) and said she couldn't do anything about it. Another girl said "Oh, looks like you're allergic to the wax" Yes - allergic to the hypo-allergenic wax. Still waiting to hear from a manager - would love a refund or credit for a different service - maybe I'll try their vastly overpriced manicure or pedicure instead. (This is now Sunday). read more

I've been here twice. I was not impressed whatsoever. I had two technicians who did a very poor job on my brows, leaving lots of strays everywhere, not to mention dried wax on my face. One of them even told me that since frilly lilly doesn't specialize in brows, I really shouldn't be coming here. Front end is dirty and cluttered with little trinkets and bric-a-brac, reception was disinterested and disorganized. read more

Had a long wax at the location in Aspen (SW)- the beautician was OK, quite fast and efficient. However, the result was not 100% perfect- went home and still could see patches of hair that were missed. All in all, it was slightly better than other places. I went to Frilly Lilly earlier this week for a pedicure. I'm new to Calgary and live in the neighbourhood so I thought I would try this place out. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with their service. The lady who did the pedicure was nice but clearly she wasn't properly trained. Basically she did not push back the cuticles on my nails, my nails were not trimmed or filed, she only spent about a minute removing callouses on each foot and the nail polish bubbled up indicating she probably put it on too thick. To top it all off it cost me 75$ after tip. The entire pedicure lasted for about an hour. I went back to my usual aesthetician a few days later in Edmonton and got her to fix my polish and she told me it didn't even look like I had a pedicure. I should mention that I did go back to Frilly Lilly to complain and they offered to either give me a full refund or a complimentary pedicure. I appreciated that they were willing to offer some kind of recourse but frankly I would never go back here for any of their services. I have to say I find it very irresponsible of any business to charge the prices they do and not bother to ensure their staff is properly trained. By the way the lady I go to in Edmonton charges $50 and spends three hours on her pedicures, whenever I leave my feet feel like silk, she trims and files my nails, she is impeccable with hygiene and her polishes are flawless. She doesn't have the overheads of renting in a trendy area but I would choose substance over style any day. read more

I went for my first time for a brow wax. The girl who waxed my eyebrows did a good job and I am happy with the results. She listened and did exactly what I told her I wanted. One negative critism I have is I didn't find the receptionists very welcoming/friendly. I think if the front end staff would have been more welcoming than I would have had a better feeling about the place. Regardless, my eyebrows turned out great. read more

My mom, sister and I all when to Frilly Lilly Aspen to get a full set of gel nails and a pedicure for my sisters wedding. The pedicures were good and reasonably priced. The gels on the other hand were terrible. All three of us had lifting after 3 days. My sister had three nails pop off like the cheap press on nails from the drug store. My mom and I when back to give the a second chance and fix them. They didn't charge us for the fixes but again after a couple of days we both had really bad lifting. Before this I had a set of gel nails for 6 years the didn't lift at all and I was getting them filled every 5 weeks. So disappointed as the atmosphere was really nice and they are pretty lose to my home. Don't think I'll be headding back there any time soon for another fill. read more

Please do not waste your money on a Pedi at this establishment. $65 each for what my Daughter and I received was highway robbery. Thought we would try something special as a birthday treat, thinking we were getting an upscale pedi as the surroundings were sweet and the price was extreme, only to get not much more than a polish change with a splash in a luke warm salad bowl with the briefest scrub and massage I have ever experienced. I kept thinking this a a cruel joke. The Pedi area is Pretty but fairly uncomfortable as you sit on a wood bench and your feet are wet so rather cold and you have to constantly reposition yourself to assist the empolyee. The girls working on us kept jumping up to get stuff, one of which was not even a trained esthetician. For $65 that would have been expected. I do realize "now" that this is not Frilly Lilly's specialty and truly believe they should not be offering the Pedi service at all. Two days after my experience here I had to visit my regular corner nail salon and gladly paid the $35 for my "Spa" Pedicure experience including hot water tub soak, full leg/foot scrub and massage with hot towel treatment. And for $10 more had a manicure. Lesson learned... You don't always get what you pay for. read more

This is for the Aspen location. I was booked for an appt on Monday to get a basic bikini wax. I booked it in person and even met the girl that was doing it. She assured me she was fully trained. Monday morning I get a call and was told they had to,cancel my appt. the girl that was doing the waxing actually wasn't trained at all. They weren't apologetic or wanted to re schedule they appt. lucky me though, I am now going to a place where trained adults work. Would never recommend this place. read more
