He was left to deal with a breathing tube and the inability to eat solid foods. He decided that Hospice of the Valley would would be his final stop and I and our family are glad that it was! First off, the staff was incredibly sympathetic and helpful. I visited my cousin a few times before he passed and each time that a nurse came in to check on him, they were gentile and caring. Even though my cousin couldn't speak, each nurse would speak to him very kindly, as they did things like clean his breathing tube. Additionally, the staff quickly got to a point where they recognized my cousin's most frequent visitors, such as myself and my aunt and they always acknowledged us by name when we visited. I mentioned to one nurse that my mother has Alzheimer's and she put me in contact with Hospice of the Valley's Dementia Care office (who are equally as compassionate and hard working!) My cousin never married, had lost his father 4 years ago and lost his mom a few months before he passed in late 2022. He was a nice guy and we became close when I was in late high school and then college. We shared a love of going to the movies and went with my dad most Saturdays when I was home from college, during the summers. Our relationship faded, as I moved through jobs and married, but we still talked from time to time. I wish my cousin had made some different life decisions because he would have been a good father and husband. He took care of his dying mother for a few years, before she passed. He earned the right to die with dignity and Hospice of the Valley provided just what he had earned. Thank you to the staff for allowing my cousin a comforting place to pass with dignity.

I would like to share our experience with my mom being at the Oasis for almost 8 years…read more When looking for a place for her to be, we toured several independent living places. After our tour at the Oasis, she knew this was where she wanted to be and we agreed. We loved the size of her apartment, that it had a washer and dryer, the food and the dining room, the activities(she has played bingo and pokeno for years) and loves Nicole, the social director and for how clean and pretty the landscaping and common areas are. Mom loved the servers in the dining room, the maintenance workers, who did everything from changing light bulbs and filters to air conditioning problems or whatever timely. A huge plus for us was that The Oasis at Mesa Palms is independently owned vs corporate. Jeremy, the owner, has been a pleasure to work with and is very patience and has a great attitude. Mom was at The Oasis all during covid and I was very impressed with the procedures that had in place to take care of all the residents there. Mom always felt proud of her "home" whenever any of her family and friends would come and visit her. Her grandchilden loved to have lunch or dinner with her there because of the desserts and it seemed a little fancy. When comparing pricing, the Oasis was very fair. My mom is now 92 and her health has made us make the decision to have to end her time at The Oasis, but what a great almost 8 years it has been Thanks again to everyone for taking such great care of her and for all the joy she had there. No longer anything to complain about. The activity director is responsive to requests. She goes above and beyond. Food is delicious. Last eve I had the special. 2 paper dollar sized pieces of blackened cod, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, clam chowder, a side salad of fresh lettuce variety, cucumber, tomato and delicious homemade dressing. The coconut cake for desert was moist and delicious. A huge meal but too delicious to leave. They have repaired their van so it is available Tues, Wed, Thurs for transportation to medical appointments. The van is much more comfortable than community bus. The Bella Vista bus is available for large outings. We went to two musical events at Heard this summer. Also baseball game, regular casino trips, lunch out on Mondays. The restaurant is chosen by residents. I have lived here 3 years. You can't go wrong chosing Bella Vista for your home.

So leaving and going down a different career pathway was one of the hardest decisions. The residents at HL are not only amazing they are family, family that I love and protect as my own. Each and every single resident has their own uniqueness to them. I have grown into a better woman because of them. I have been taught to be a little kinder, love a little more,  patience, to just laugh and be happy because tomorrow is not promised. Not only the residents, but the staff. The staff that has been there as long as I have or longer are seriously one of a kind. It takes some special, amazing people to work in a behavioral atmosphere and the ones who have been their I can't speak more highly of them. They truly care for the residents. My heart is filled when I hear residents telling staff "I love you" or having nicknames for caregivers "Sylvia boom boom" lol you just don't get that anywhere else. There has not been a day I woke up dreading to go to work or while at work counting down the hours/minutes to leave. Shout out to Reed because I also have never worked at a company where the owner has taken such great care of his employees and residents. If there's ever an issue he has always taken the time to listen and made me feel like I mattered and handled the situation like a boss and found a solution that works for the issue. Like for real he takes care of his employees... Christmas party, bonuses, randomly buying all the employees lunch, and during this pandemic has taken so much time to send out emails to families, employees, making sure the community is safe, clean and covid free. I personally couldn't imagine having to be in charge of all that and have to take all that negativity towards people who may not understand what he's doing or why he's doing it, but I get it and I would do the same thing for the ones I love. I could go on and on about how truly amazing HL residents and staff have been. Overall I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work at Heritage Lane, my heart has an everlasting impression.

However, the staff and administrators helped us all get through in the best possible way. He had excellent care from the staff. They made sure they did everything possible to make him comfortable. They were kind, compassionate, caring, patient and competent. His room and private bath were large, private with plenty of light and always clean. Meals were good and special diet needs were accommodated.The administrators were knowledgeable and flexible. Hawthorn felt like a home not an institution. If you are in need of memory care for a loved one Hawthorn is a place to visit and consider seriously.
