SALES DEPT: From my experience, it seems Friendship Ford's business model (at least for used cars) is as follows: 1--price the car low in order to get the customer in the door 2--make sure to lowball the customer's trade-in (they are deeply disappointed if you don't have a trade-in) 3--charge the customer $1,500 for their Pulse brake light and ceramic coating 4--charge the customer an $800 document prep fee 5--make money from the bank on the loan (they are deeply unhappy if you aren't financing the car) Wish I had read the Yelp reviews before I wasted my time here. Do not buy from this business. They are dishonest and do not keep their word. I had negotiated a deal online. I was sent the final invoice for my cashiers check. I asked 3 times for the deposit payment link or process. I had an appointment 5/23 @ 1pm to purchase, the day I arrived in TN. They are now claiming they sold the car before they provided me the final invoice. They lie and and then called me to tell me I was wrong. I have every text. I have always tried to bring my car to a dealership for maintenance. I rarely need anything but an oil change. As much as I enjoy the polite friendly people in the service department here, the wait is way too long. Often it's an hour to an hour and a half. You would think express meant shorter times. My experience here was very odd and honestly a real reflection of what the "Friendship" name had to offer. The staff seemed nice at first, but that changed quickly after purchasing the vehicle. It took seven days of calls and emails to both Aaron and his sales manager, Adam, before I was finally (and rather rudely) told by Adam that it was "not their problem anymore." I was reminded that I bought the vehicle as is and that the 30-day warranty I purchased only covered the powertrain. After reaching out to Mr. Walters about the issue, my concern was finally addressed. The service team was absolutely wonderful--professional, understanding, and genuinely helpful. The sales team, however, could learn a lot from Courtney when it comes to communication and customer care. Made a service appointment for a monday, dropped off vehicle and have proceeded to wait over 10 days before they will even start to look at the vehicle to diagnose the issue. I call every afternoon to ask for an update and the service manager ducks my calls and the other staff just cover and say they are busy or with another customer and they will call with an update shortly. I have never gotten a call from this dealership. Take your vehicle someplace else. you've been warned. read more

Made an appointment to have a serpentine belt installed on my 2007 Ford Ranger. I checked with parts to make sure they had the belt available for the scheduled time of installation. They assured me they would have it. The day before the scheduled appointment I called once more to verify it was indeed available. The Parts Manager assured me it was and he had set the belt aside with my name on it. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the dealership and told the service representative I had an appointment to have a Serpentine belt installed on my Ford Ranger. Left the keys in the vehicle and was told they would take care of it. I proceeded to the waiting area to wait on my vehicle to be repaired. Almost two hours later the female service representative approached me and wanted to discuss their findings. What findings? She handed me a printout that listed every type of flush of any and all lubricants that could possibly be imagined. I recognized this type of add on sales push. The sheet listed my needed belt change and all the other flushes that I had asked to be performed at my request, What?...wait a moment; I don't want anything but the belt changed that we agreed to when I arrived. I went back to the garage area and guess what...nothing had been done to my vehicle. Nothing. Nadda. ZIP! Almost two hours later...nothing but trying to sell additional services I did not need nor did I want. I asked the mechanic why my belt wasn't changed and he said they were waiting on one. I explained that his parts manager had one on hand for me. He then said it took two belts. Oh my Lord...there is only one belt on a 2007 Ford Ranger 4.0L engine. I asked for them to bring my truck out to the parking area that I was leaving. I was miffed to say the least. As of this review, I have committed myself to tell this story to all that will listen. My husband and i have bought two new vehicles off the lot. 2016 ford focus and a 2018 Ford Edge. Recently we had the works done on the Edge we assumed everything had been checked. Noticed yesterday the check engine light came on and my husband took it to auto zone and they ran the diagnostics on it said it could be two things. ignition coil or the spark plugs. My Son in law checked it and it was the spark plugs that haven't been changed in 7 years. You would think that they would have checked this when we take it in for normal service. We also had brake pads put on this year and they put the old clips back on. It was making a racket so i called and brought it in and that was when he told me they put the old clips back on. This was a $1,000 procedure just for brake pads. Will not bring our vehicle back to these crooks. read more

Would rate 0 if I could! :) Absolutely horrendous. Went to school in the area and brought my ford vehicle in. I'm not from the United States, and noticed my ford was having AC issues. These dummies took a look at it and instead told me it's because I had this "huge tree branch blocking my AC" and it would be USD $3,000 to fix. They tried to hustle money out of a young, foreign student in college...nice guys!! Really awesome business practice. They went as far as to blow up a picture to make it look huge. Because I'm not an idiot, I got a second opinion because there's 0 chance that's real, I'm the only one driving my car, and it hasn't been near any trees or accidents. Business touts fairness, but fails to disclose previous body repairs made there that are not included in Carfax report. Salesman insisted tires that were worn unevenly were not in need of replacement. I chose to drive 300 miles based on my incorrect perception that they were a fair dealership, and I think they used that fact to not change the tires or the glued together door handle that I didn't discover until after I drove home. Overall, please pay close attention to their used vehicles when you visit. read more

Horrific experience- Made a service appointment over one week in advance- then when we brought the truck in, they did not look at it for another three working days. We had to call to check on it and they promised they would get to it the following day. We made calls every day and they were always too busy to talk and could they take a message and get back to us. We never got a call back. We only got responses when we insisted to stay on the line until our service advisor was available. Friendship Ford then took another three days to get back to us with a quote- but just a text, with rough estimates, we still had not received an actual quote. Now we are six working days into the service. After two weeks they called and said the mechanic that was working on it was leaving and they would find someone else to finish the truck. We drove down to the dealership to speak with the Service Manager. The Assistant Service Manager told us that they would put "their top mechanic" on it and should have it done in another two days, three at the most. We told the manager that that finish would put it at three weeks and we STILL had not seen an official quote. Finally got the quote sent to us later that day. But, it took another full week plus a couple of days to finish the truck, which put it at four weeks total. During this time they did not offer us a loaner vehicle until two and half weeks into the work, and only after we complained about having to share vehicles while they found a new mechanic. By the way, the estimate shows that the work would take less than one week but it took their new "top mechanic" another week and a half to finish. When we picked up the truck we asked for a discount since it had taken one month to do a week's worth of work. Friendship Ford showed us a list of things that they claimed they had not charged us for as a "credit." This included the oil filler cap (which they lost), as well as the extra seals, gaskets, and coolant they said they needed. The prices they quoted included gaskets so either Friendship Ford lost the gaskets with the filler cap, broke the ones paid for during the work, or can't figure out how many are needed for the job. Additional coolant as a credit? A coolant change was part of the work we paid for, but apparently Friendship Ford does not know the coolant capacity of their own trucks and had to get extra. So the list of "credits" turned out to be the list of errors they made but didn't charge us for. Worst experience in my life with a service department. As a counterpoint to this experience, I took a different truck to Tri-Cities CDJR to be diagnosed and fixed. Made the appointment a week in advance like Friendship. After I dropped it off I received a call in four hours with an apology that they could not finish the diagnostic that day and would I like a loaner vehicle. The promised to finish the diagnostic the following working day- which they did and immediately emailed a written quote. The work was completed in one day as promised. If you can, go to Tri-Cities CDJR instead of Friendship Ford, you will be treated better and more honestly. read more

Purchased a 2019 ford expedition new. Bought all the extended warranties and service plans. Took the car back to Friendship for all the oil changes and maintenance. Reported a problem with the transmission when it was still under factory warranty. They said they couldnt find a problem. Three times the car was there for the same thing. We even left it there for a week telling them they had to drive it to see the problem after a week they had put 4 miles on the car. Still couldnt find a problem. In their words (youre covered if the transmission fails because you have the extended warranty). Turns out either they werent doing the maintenance or they werent documenting the maintenance because we took it to Johnson city ford (warranty fully usable at other dealerships) and they found the problem. They couldnt get the warranty company to approve the work because of the lack of documentation or lack of maintenance of the car. So after paying 4000.00 for the extended warranty alone and then almost 1000.00 for the platnuim service plan I had to pay Johnson city Ford to fix the transmission. I called Ford Motor Company to complain and was given a case number. I called back to check on the case and they just turn it back over to the dealership to investigate themselves. Sounds a little like somebody gets caught shoplifting and judge lets them pick their own punishment. Thanks alot Ford and Friendship Ford. They are there for the sale and sale only. read more

One of my first ever low star reviews. Here's why.... 1. The lot was clean and easy to navigate. They had the car they said they had and it drove nicely. This deserves a star. 2. 3rd star subtraction... The dealership (to envoke pressure and anxiety), makes you sit and wait for a long period of time while they take your paperwork to the front.... we wanted to go eat during this time, but they were not able to do what was necessary while we were gone. It is a well-known tactic among large car dealerships. 3. 4th star subtraction - I emphasized that I did NOT want my credit pulled and that I wanted counsel on the best process of getting the best for my money. The salesman did not want me to talk to the credit manager but I insisted so he did come. I told him my concern was credit pulls and he said he would do a "soft pull" that did not hit my credit. He actually at this point told a lie. He pulled my credit, not once, but twice. (I even stressed 3 times not to do anything but a soft pull and even signed his paper to that effect). 4. 5th star subtraction - I was supposed to get a call back to tell me what the terms would be....I did not get a call, but I called them to ask why they pulled my credit as a hard pull. They said they "had to" in order to get approval. I told him, "I told you I didn't approve that" and he said something to the effect of "oh...sorry". I never did get my decision from them and even called back again today and still didn't get an answer on either item. 5. Summary - They were forcing a 17 (or 19) hundred dollar seal coating that I absolutely didn't want and some other things that were purely gimmicks. DON'T FALL FOR THAT FOLKS... YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR! 6. Trade-in Value is another real issue. They only offered me 400.00 (four hundred dollars), for my 2012 Honda Pilot Touring that is in very good shape. The salesman was a very kind patient young man with a couple years experience. But the actual overall experience was less than wanting. read more

Salesperson Steven Cowan was great, but finance made no effort to secure a good rate through Ford Credit, then pushed upselling a warranty that isn't needed. 2024 Bronco Sport Heritage went for $37,500 to ten thousand more than that because of their price gouging. I'lve be calling to cancel the ancillary warranty. Not happy at all with a finance rate for 8% when my previous Ford finance was half that and just paid off. Called multiple times in the past week but no one will respond to get this additional package canceled. Severely disappointed! I called about the price of a car that was advertised online. I assumed there would be additional fees and I wanted to know what they would be before I drove over an hour to see it. The first salesman I talked to could not even tell me what the fees would be and said someone would have to call me back. After 3 hours I called back and was told there was an additional $2500 added on to what was advertised as a $14000 car. Seems very excessive. $1000 alone was some sort of exterior coating - which being from NY seems a little ridiculous for the south. Anyway the salesman Chris told me that there had been no interest in this car but just in case to call if we were going to come and he would hold it for me until we got there and give me first refusal. So at 450 pm that same day I called and got the receptionist and told her to tell Chris we were on the way to see that particular car. At 545 pm, when we were only 5 minutes away I got a text message from him that he had just sold it. Pretty poor business ethics and poor communication within the company if you ask me. They tried to blame me saying I did not call but I certainly did. To say I was disappointed with Friendship Ford is a huge understatement. read more

Let me start off by saying Greg Dawson who sadly no longer works there is amazing. He was the best car salesman I have ever worked with and I don't think he knew anything about the vehicle being messed up when he sold it to us. However everyone else at this dealership is a joke. The car we bought had a bad transmission that they managed to mask until we drove it off the lot. After we test drove it they took it in the back to "detail it". Had the car 6 days before we had to take it to the Lenoir location to be diagnosed because the transmission was shifting so violently it was undriveable (thank God for a lifetime warranty). We then took the car back to Bristol because that's where we bought it from and the they told us it will be a while so get used to the loaner car. At this point it was impossible to get any information out of them as far as my vehicle was concerned. I would call and they would say "your service advisor is not available I'll have them call you back". Wait 3 days still not heard anything callback same thing when the service advisor would call back they would tell me "I'm so sorry we don't have a record of your vehicle let me see what is going on oh wait that's because your vehicle hasn't been brought back to be worked on" mind you the vehicle was brought in at the end of October and this was the middle of December. Then they call me a day later and tell me my vehicle would be ready by the end of the week. They call at the end of the week and tell me "oh we are waiting on the warranty company to come and assess your vehicle". Why the heck has the warranty company not already been out to look at my vehicle since it's been sitting here for a month and a half. The following Monday I was told my vehicle would be ready by the end of the week (Friday before Christmas). On that Friday may I get a call "the service advisor is telling me that he broke your starter while fixing the transmission it will be next week before it's ready". Finally go down there on Thursday after Christmas. My vehicle is not even pulled out front instead they give me the keys to go around the back and get it myself. Then the "manager" comes out to me and tells me "if I had known what was going on this would've been on my desk and resolved a lot sooner" I didn't know about it til about an hour ago. Then I requested all the paperwork from the repairs and I'm told basically that's none of my business i don't get that kind of paperwork. At this point I'm done I take my vehicle and leave. Emily was my service advisor and was awful with communication, she avoided all of my phone calls and when she did call she was very fake and tried to make excuses. Don't even get me started on both of the loaner cars they gave me starting with the fact the first one was supposed to be AWD and the website even says it was however it was not it spun tires just barely pulling out of anywhere and it was knocking. Then they came and swapped out the vehicle for another one (the only good thing they done). This vehicle was actually really nice other than the fact it reeked of cigarettes. Overall I love the friendship dealerships however I would never recommend the one in Bristol. I love the lifetime warranty from friendship and the Lenoir location was amazing, in fact they even called to check and make sure my vehicle was being taken care of and they actually seemed concerned. I will start off by saying that in the end, someone higher in the dealership's management team saw my initial online review and made things right. However, buying a car should not be this stressful. Sales and finance staff acting in a careless manner, promising one interest rate, dragging out the process until the customer is frustrated, hungry and distracted by the thoughts of just getting out of there. Then rushing the customer through the finance paperwork to help get them wrapped up, so they can be done. BEWARE! This is where they slip in the interest rate that is nearly double what was promised and as a result, higher payments. All done without pointing it out to you. Just "sign here, initial here, here and here...". Later, you find out you're saddled with terms that you never would have agreed to and maybe can't really afford. You call them the next business day (a Monday) and all you get is "Well the paperwork is signed and sent to the bank now. Not sure we can do anything, since it has already been sent in". Well yes, something can be done, they just don't WANT to try. To them, the deal is done and they've moved on to other victims. Why help you? You're the fish that has already been caught and placed in the ice box. Repeated calls asking for somebody to help, only result in promises of a call back that never comes and an email address that doesn't work. Not until I posted a long, highly detailed, one-star review of the dealership on multiple sites, did someone higher in the management team reach out with the promise to try to help. Not because anyone working for them, brought it to their attention! No, this person had no idea, because none of the staff who were contacted had tried. Even then, a whole week goes by before the call comes in that the promised interest rate has been worked out and the situation resolved. I can't imagine having someone working for me who would act in such a callous manner towards customers and risk the reputation of the business. It almost seems as though the dealership makes more money on higher interest rates using the banks they prefer to use. I've received messages from a number of people who had similar experiences, but didn't get the same issue resolution. I can only guess that in some cases, negative online reviews were not left because the customer feels embarrassed for getting taken. My advice for buyers is to walk away. Don't allow staff to leave you sitting for extended periods of time. I suspect that is a tactic they purposefully employ to get you eager to "sign and go". And don't let anyone rush you. If it is close to closing time or you need to grab a meal, then go. They want you to believe that the car you are looking at is being looked at by others, which makes it more desirable. But it is very unlikely that at the end of the day, it'll be sold before the next morning. If they can't hold it for you while you go get a meal, be VERY suspicious. In the end, if you feel you haven't been dealt with honestly and fairly, write a review. List all the facts of the situation and let other customers know what to expect. Maybe you'll get the attention of someone who will help you. read more

We were traveling from Ft Worth to Johnson City, TN. As we got to Johnson City we started having issues with our 2016 Expedition. Tried all the dealers in the immediate area but none would even squeeze us in. Friendship told us they were very busy as well but they understood our situation and said they would try to work it in. We dropped the car off at 8 am as requested and by 1 pm they had it repaired. We are very grateful for their efforts. They even gave us a retired military discount. BAIT AND SWITCH! I was looking to buy a new Jeep and was attracted by the ADVERTISED NO HAGGLE PRICING. I provided my personal information so I could get a black and white out the door loan number and because in my experience some dealers like to use Deceitful tactics. Well no surprise FRIENDSHIP FORCE ADDS ALMOST 3K IN INSANE CRAP. 798.00$ for First Place Finish, 1,295.00$ for WHAT THEY ARE CALLING THE FRIENDSHIP DRIVER COVERAGE PACKAGE, AND 600.00$ FOR A MOPAR PROTECTION PACKAGE. I looked into these ridiculous items and they are basically worthless. The first place finish could be accomplished with your own detail job at 45$. Don't we like washing our new cars?. The other TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS ARE COVERED WITH YOUR AUTO INSURANCE POLICY. Being a retired first responder and trained to see through the BS I find it reprehensible what they are doing to people and will be sending a copy of the price sheet to the Attorney General for review of practice. Terrible experience. Salesman was very unprepared to follow through on issues. Within one week of getting the car, we had a major mechanical issue. Supposedly it went through their inspection and had their warranty plus extended certified warranty. Took it back 3 times which was an hour drive from home. Service guy was very condescending to me. Took it all the way to the manager and he was not nice, refused to fix it even though it had 2 warranties. Finally after much debate they fixed issue. Then we had trouble getting our tags and no one knew what to do. They were late in sending our title to our bank. Total disaster all the way around! read more

Friendship Volvo in Bristol, TN is all aces. I just want to write a note to compliment Anthony Townsen and the rest of the team at Friendship Volvo, which is affiliated with Friendship Ford. Anyway, the Friendship Volvo team could not have been nicer. They handled our service promptly and even checked if my schedule would allow for the free detailing. I really appreciate that and I think my wife did as well. In addition to the standard free coffee and TV set up, they have free wifi and have created several customer office areas, so you have a fighting chance to get some real work done while you wait. Free bottled water is available as well. Also, instead of just relying upon the intercom to summon me, Mr. Townsen actually came out to get me, as he seemed to do for each of the customers. This kind of personal touch is impressive in this day in age. Awful, awful, awful service. Did I mention awful? While on vacation with my family in early April our Volvo broke down on I-81 and was towed here. The service department is extremely disorganized they called us back after running diagnostics to tell us that nothing was wrong with our car..oops sorry, WRONG CAR--wasn't our car. They then called us again to tell us the transmission failed and we need to spend over 7k to fix the transmission and the radiator. After protesting (car had less than 69k) and calling Volvo NA (who agreed to cover the repairs) we return to pick up our XC90 to find that they applied a software patch. When I was paying it was a $7,100 repair but once I got Volvo involved it was a $100 software upgrade? I picked up my car, it wasn't washed, there was no paper floormats, there was grease on the leather seats in the interior. I had to call to get status on the car. Nevermind fixing my car without trying to rip me off (I guess that's what happens when you are from out of town) but they didn't even do basic fundamental things like call to tell you the car was ready. I could not believe the TERRIBLE AND DISRESPECTFUL service i received at this dealership. I was in the market for a used suv and found one i liked on their website. I reached out to the sales team and they were polite and helpful and because i was coming from a distance even took a video of the vehicle for me. I thought about it and called and made and offer on the vehicle and the sales lady gave me the usual response of "let me talk to my manager and i'll call you right back". Well that was a Tuesday evening, come Wednesday morning about 11am I texted the lady and asked for any updates... no response... so i called her... she sent it to voicemail so i left a message and sent her a followup text... no response so i call into the dealership and hour or so later and left a vm for another salesman waited... no response.. so finally i called and told the operator i would wait on the line til i got a live body, which the sales lady took my info and said she'd check on it and get back to me... 2hrs later still no word.. so i called and finally asked to speak with a manager. The receptionist transferred me to the manager who's name was David, I've dealt with and been in the car industry all my life and this guy was a real gem. He was rude from the time he picked up the phone, i explained my situation and that i was hoping for an update he proceeded to rudely tell me the car was on a test drive and my offer wasn't accepted and that it was already sold. I expressed my dismay at this as I had made and offer and should have been given the courtesy to negotiate if i was still interested, he rudely cut me off and said that it has been on a test drive all afternoon that it was sold and that he would never hold a car for an online sale over someone at his door. That is just completely rude and I sure hope anyone else looking to do business online with this dealership thinks twice before wasting their time and money with these people ! Bought a used Yukon from Friendship Ford last minute. Salesman was great but the guy that did the paperwork was a real piece of work. Sold me a pathetic extended warranty that would be a "$6 difference on my payment" ok six dollars no big deal, didn't expect someone to lie right to my face, turns out it was a FOURTY six dollar difference every month so $4,000 later I have a warranty that doesn't cover anything. I really hope he enjoyed the commission off of it. I'll never reccomend any of the friendship dealerships to anyone because of that lying jerk. Watch out! read more

So first off my salesman (forgot his name) and overall the car i purchased was amazing. I purchased the extended warranty plan through GWC warranty, because my vehicle was higher miles and i just wanted to cover my butt incase of something. Thankfully i never had to use it, again never had to use it! Now that i am in the market for a new vehicle the dealership is refusing to refund my credit union the rest of the retail price of the warranty. The reason being whatever is to get refunded to me will come out of pocket of the F&I Manager, Used Car Manager, and General Sales Manager. This is absolutely unacceptable. My family and I have purchased over 5 vehicles from them in the past and if this doesn't get resolved there will never be another one either. read more

Well, I was saving my review for when Friendship Ford sent me their survey after having my truck serviced. It was such a horrible experience, I guess they decided not to send me one. This was not the first time they messed up a simple oil change and service. I bring my own oil, and always bring extra, to make sure there is enough to do the job. However, they tried to charge me for their oil and kept ALL of my oil, saying they had used it in my truck. It does not take 13qts to fill up my truck. Again, this was not the first time they screwed up a simple vehicle service, but it IS the last time for me! The only positive, was that they finally refunded payment back to my card. I still had to go back in to ask for the mileage sticker to put in my window, because they couldn't even get that right after having my truck for over 6 hours (the appointment was the first on a week day morning). I used to be impressed with them, but now they just seem apathetic and incompetent. read more

The best advice I can give any potential car buyer is to drive right by the place. You would be better off going to Ramey Ford in Johnson City or Freedom Ford in Kingsport. You'll get a better deal at those places. read more

I inquired about a used truck on 09/07/15 after hours. They initially responded the next morning 09/08/15 @ 8:29 am. I replied to that email @ 9:16 am, requesting a quote by text message. At 3:00 pm no response, texted them again, still no response. At shortly after 6:00 started online chat with their internet person, she finally read my email and assured me that someone from their sales dept. would text me the requested quote. It's currently a hour and a half after their business hours and no response. I'm certainly not a business guru, but I would think this isn't anyway to gain a potential customer. Friendship Volvo was asked on several occasions to evaluate my 2002 Volvo sedan. I recently moved to a new city where a Volvo mechanic told me that all four engine mounts, hood shocks, belt tensioners, lower control arms, and timing belts were in need of repair. The total bill was evaluated at $5,000.00 (excluded other repairs for brevity). That was following over $2,000.00 I spent at Friendship Volvo the month prior. They did not provide any kind of acceptable service. read more
