A wonderful school. Very good at building up confidence in children. It's expensive, but great.

He kept his head down and flew under the radar and was diagnosed with high functioning ASD in 9th grade. TGS knocks down the walls of judgment against neurodiverse kids that exist in public schools and give them new tools to achieve their potential each day in creative ways so that kids learn to express themselves and feel heard and accepted.

My son has been able to get out of his defensive mode (which has obstructed his ability to learn) because he is finally receiving the necessary accommodations for his Aspergers and ADHD learning profile. The school, with its amazing and dedicated staff, has helped him move forward not only with his academics, but has provided valuable tools to help him with his social skills and emotional regulation as well. He looks forward to going to school now and feels grateful to be in a place where he is valued, respected and understood. We love the community and integrity that comes along with The Temple Grandin School and we have much hope for our son's future accomplishments.

He's now learning Spanish at an AP level where he once floundered in incomplete assignments. He's interested in and informed about world events-- social studies hadn't even sparked an interest in the past. In areas where he still struggles, he has teachers who understand how he learns and help him along while still holding him to him to high standards. He's actually learning, not just showing up and turning in busywork. Earlier struggles at school extended to his social and emotional life. It was hard to see him struggle when knew him to be bright, funny, insightful, and kind. September School has drawn that out. He's part of a supportive community, has good friends, and is valued for being himself.

He went from thinking school is meaningless and not worth the effort to enjoying many of his classes and coming home happy. The small class size, the personal attention, the caring and supportive community have all transformed his attitude toward school and learning. At September School, he isn't expected to expected to think and perform like everyone else. Teachers support him while also still holding him accountable. We also love the policy of not giving homework, which means assignments get completed in class and school stays at school. September School certainly isn't right for every kid, but for those that need a non-traditional learning environment, it's amazing.

Our son is leaving middle school with a clear sense of who he is, ready to take on High School and whatever life throws at him. He knows how to advocate for himself to his peers and to his teachers. The smaller environment has meant that the teachers know our kids as individuals; they know their learning needs and strengths, know their unique personalities and challenge them just the right amount to keep them learning and growing and reaching their full potential academically and socially.

Miss Rita can pick 'em well. Our kids have learned, grown, socialized, and played a ton--exactly what they need. When we first moved to town, we looked for daycare options in every prospective neighborhood, which is to say a lot. The yard at Strawberry Farm was the first indication this place is the best. It's a huge yard. There's a "car" area for driving, grass area, playhouses and slides, sometimes a bouncy house, sometimes a sprinkler, always a sun-protected sandbox. In the summer, there's a sun shade canopy over the kid-height picnic table and benches. There's a garden the kids help with. Inside is cozy. The whole downstairs is for kids--a quiet, dark nap room, another nap room for the youngest so they can sleep longer, a music room, cozy living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom with changing station/small toilets and sinks the kids can reach. The schedule is posted in the entrance hall. The kids have drawers and hanging pockets for delivering and picking up things. More about sleep: Our oldest had just turned 3 and we were lucky there was a spot open. The little one was 1 and no spot. He went somewhere else that was...fine...he was safe and fed. However, maybe they never turned the lights off? or didn't have a quiet room? hard to imagine but he didn't nap. They said he wouldn't nap, which was nonsense. At pick up sometimes he was asleep literally on the floor of the main room. He'd sleep in the car/bike, pass out at home and barely revive for dinner. We had to move him ASAP. Once with Miss Rita, he napped perfectly fine without any trouble. Such a relief. They have healthy food and snack every day. Lunch is prepared and the menu posted daily (I love that). They occasionally take fieldtrips to the library and a local Italian restaurant (and send along any leftovers). They have circle time and interactively enjoy story books every day. They learn manners, taking turns and polite language that has been very helpful to use at home. Life is never always smooth and to help with that, Rita will always make time to discuss concerns and issues. We've talked to her when we wondered about our kids and she talked to us when there was something we could help with. That communication is important.
