We attended before my son's autism diagnosis, and he was treated with a shocking lack of empathy. The owner actually called me to claim my son had a 'medical tic'--which was actually just a self-soothing raspberry-blowing behavior he only did when he was extremely stressed by their environment. I witnessed systemic neglect: children who spoke English as a second language were left to sit alone without interaction, and toddlers were left to sob inconsolably after drop-off with no comfort from staff. I actually had to step in and hug a crying child myself because the teachers wouldn't. Most concerning was the lack of respect for parental boundaries and age-appropriate care. When my 3-year-old was nervous about potty training, I requested he wear a pull-up for one day to build his confidence. Instead, the staff spent 30 minutes of his school day forcing him back into underwear against my explicit instructions. Unless your child is neurotypical and requires no emotional support, stay away. This is not a safe or inclusive environment.

My 14-month-old daughter used to attend Goddard School Erie at Vista Ridge. She was often crying at…read morepick up and shaking her head 'no' and crying at drop off with the teacher. This was very uncharacteristic of her. One Monday, at pick up my daughter was the only child left and I found her in a corner by herself crying. I was unable to settle her or get her to stop crying until after we got home that night. The teacher told me that my daughter was isolated like that after the other children had been picked up to work on 'regulating her emotions' (at just over a year old?). On Wednesday that week, when I picked her up, she was hysterical (again, this is very unlike her at home or in previous daycare). There was another child still in the class and a second teacher present this time. When I went to lift her up, the teacher told me that my daughter's hair was wet because "she needed to be spritzed a couple of times to help her regulate her emotions when she would not stop crying." I then noticed that her hair was soaked. I looked at the teacher in shock and she pointed at the wall where several spray bottles were hanging up and she stated that "some kids actually like being sprayed." I left immediately to gather myself and calm my child. I then emailed the director and requested an immediate meeting. We requested that a letter be sent to families of other children that could have also been treated this way by their teacher. Since a letter has yet to come out, and may never, I feel responsible to share our story with others. This is especially important since children in these classrooms aren't yet able to communicate these things with us. Ultimately, we lost trust in the school. Felt like there is a big miss here in terms of teacher education and general oversight in the classrooms. We pulled our daughter out. She has since joined a new daycare and is thriving. I am hopeful that the state licensing agency can help the school to reach the standard of other Goddard schools that we have previously known and loved.

CMA is a community music school that has served the region for over 25 years. First of all, I called to enquire about music lessons 4 months ago and finally, they called me back one month ago! I believed that I had set up 3 trial voice lessons for my daughter starting today, dates booked in, teacher info received - they took my credit card details, the dates and times were confirmed over the phone, and I put them in my diary. Today we showed up and there was no lesson - the answer? 'Oh, I'm sorry, we're very backed up, you're one of the new people aren't you'. 'Oh, I see you here in the folder that I haven't got to you yet (4 weeks later) and we've given your slot away to someone else'. This is on top of the enquiry I made about cello lessons for my son. That enquiry took 3 weeks to respond to. They left me a voicemail, I got back immediately and left them a voicemail then....nothing, another 2 weeks to get a response from that call. After a couple of mumbled apologies today, I left furious having taken time out of my day to get my daughter there on time for something that was confirmed one month ago. This business doesn't deserve any success, if you can even call it a business.
