When I tried to find a shop that would fix the broken open/close mechanism on the rear window of my 2006 Mustang I couldn't get anyone to work on it. I visited three places in El Cajon, and all of them refused because it is an old car and the repair involves removing the interior side panel on the car. " Saul Did A Great Job " I went to Friendly Upholstery on W. Main St. in El Cajon Ca. and meet the owner Saul Bejarano. Saul was very nice to talk with as I explained the cover that I wanted him to make to go over my small patio trellis. I gave Saul the dimensions and asked him to put several Velcro straps on the cover also. This was not something that he normally makes at his business, so he was doing this " Of the cuff " from just my directions. A few days later I went to pick up my cover and it looked Awesome ! I took it home and it fit perfectly, and all the Velcro straps matched up as well. Saul does a lot of Cars, Boats, and Furniture, but he will do anything that you take to him well, that's why his business is rated an A+ with the BBB, and why he has almost 5 out of 5 on his YELP reviews. For our business, we had two forklift seats reupholstered with a heavy duty vinyl. The seats had to be reformed with foam, as they were in pretty bad shape. The work was done the same day we dropped them off and looked great when complete. We haven't had them long enough now to comment on the longevity of the material/stitching, but it certainly looks good. This shop is owned by a true craftsman. I have taken seats/items to this shop to be recovered. It is tucked away between two bigger buildings on Main in El Cajon, a few blocks off Hwy 8. It has VERY limited parking, so plan to park on a side street and walk up. The owner is a very busy man who operates with a small crew and as they are renown for vintage as well as newer auto upholstery they are very focused. As such, I have found that I do have to wait patiently sometimes for his attention to shift to the front of the shop. I do not expect another employee to be able to tell me what the cost or time factor would be so I am willing to be patient. The owner is to the point in his conversation and the first time I was nervous about leaving my product since I was not sure if he understood my needs - a few days later, I called to see if the item was ready and when I went to pick it up he had done exactly as I requested. Sometimes I have waited for a call back which did not come but as he has no apparent office staff I have no problem calling him again. This communication pattern has been the norm with him, it's worked out just fine in the production of quality work for me and he is a true craftsman committed to that final detail. Here's the big surprise - he quoted me a price which I thought was reasonable on a 6 item upholstery job - when I picked up the completed order, he told me it would be less overall as he did not need to do certain things in the process - How honest is THAT??!! So if you expect warm fuzzies, you are not going to get it here... office coverage is spotty, the phone is answered as quickly as possible but sometimes rings long, and you will not get a chatty salesman of upholstery.....what you will get is a quality product, honest business practices and focused craftsmen. read more

They must have plenty of business because they weren't trying to earn mine. I went there today with a boat cover that needed repair, most likely have to get a new one made ($900-$1200 job). When I arrive there is nobody in the front office. I think OK, Ill walk around back. I meet up with an employee and tell him what I need. He asks if I brought the cover with me and I tell him that I have it in the trunk of my car. I assumed (we all know about assuming!) he was going to look at it and give me a quote on repair or sell me a new custom cover. NOPE. He said the owner went to go eat and told me to wait by my car for him. The employee never even took a look at what I needed work on. So against my better judgment, I waited. About 15 minutes later a person whom I assume to be the owner arrives and parks his Toyota truck. He looks at me and then hurries to the rear shop area with a bag from Carls Jr. I'm pretty put off at this point and I get in my car and start to leave. The owner walks up as I am backing out and asks, "What do you need?". Interesting customer service technique. I tell him what I need and he tells me to leave it and he will call me later, saying "it's lunch time". I am totally willing to pay a fair amount for service, but I insist on being treated right. So, it turns out that my cover couldn't be repaired. I'm bringing the boat to another shop tomorrow to be fitted for a new cover. Preliminary estimate for that is $1000. At least I was treated right at the other shop. read more

I met with the owner to get an estimate on a repair on one of my car seats. He was friendly and gave me a reasonable quote, but said he would call me that afternoon. I did not receive a call back, so the next day, I called him again. He said he would call me back within thirty minutes, but again no call was made. Another day has passed and I have not received any call back. This business is very unprofessional and discourteous. My Dad and Grandfather used to reupholster it, but I didn't learn the trade. Glad I remembered the fine work Friendly did on my cars. I'm the original owner of a 98 Camaro and I finally had the factory leather (if you can call what Chevy put in my car leather) replaced by Manny at FU last year. I seriously didn't want the same stuff, so I asked him for the best quality leather he could get within reason. He made a special order for me at a reasonable price and now I'm left wondering how I suffered all those years with that garbage Chevy sold me. I love my seats now, forget getting some $$$ Recaro seats, good leather will do miracles for your buckets that only gets better as it breaks in over time. I have a 2002 Saturn SC-1 which needed the driver's seat cushion repaired. This is the second time I've used Friendly Upholstery. Wow, it looks so brand new just like it did 11 years ago when I bought the car. I also used them in 2011 to replace the lining of the roof inside the car. Again, very professional job.
