Was able to get a last minute appointment for a very needed pedicure with my brother and his gf. It was definitely a perfectly fine nail experience. The cons were that the bathroom was outside and around the building (also not the cleanest) and we weren't able to sit together because of the chairs we were in. Not a huge deal, the shop was so small, but it felt a little awkward talking across the shop to each other. My nails turned out fine, no real complaint. It was just your run of the mill pedicure. This nail salon is my favorite! Iteasily became my go to as I actually live right down the road. I've tried a few other salons around Kailua but this one tops them. They always leave my nails how I envisioned them or better! I've been here more than a few times already and I've never had to wait. After a beach day in Kailua, I decided to try and see my old nail gal that moved to a nail salon in Kailua. Sadly, she wasn't working today so I headed to the next closest salon. I did a set on the 12th (Thursday) for $90 with Danny. Everything was fine at first until another client came then I felt like it was rushed through but it looked cute at the end. The problem came when I went home because the sides and underneath of my nails weren't filed correctly so they snagged on everything and pulled on my hair. By the next day (Friday) one of the top corners my nail broke off where it kept snagging, luckily it was small so I wasn't too mad. The day after that another nail broke at exactly where my natural nail ended and my nails are long so I just decided to go in and have him touch it up on Sunday. I tried to explain the problem esp because i had two long acrylic tips that I was concerned about that showed signs of cracking. He filed it really quickly and I had to stop to point out a few times where it was still had edges that caught on to everything but at the end I still had the dust on my nails so I couldn't see everything and I left. By Wednesday a huge top corner of my other nail broke off too (one of the nails i was concerned about) I don't mind paying for quality or at least fixing it correctly but by that time it hadn't been a whole week and it had broken 3 times. While the initial small cracks were fixed with the filing this most recent crack is too big to just reshape. read more

I asked for the remover on cotton with foil wraps & she said no it was better to just grind my nails away. I finally stopped her & asked for someone else or I was leaving. There is a nail wizard in Kailua and his name is Danny. I've struggled with short, flat nailbeds my whole life and trying to explain my concerns to my nail techs has seldom been beneficial. The final product is normally bulky and stumpy looking. NEVER AGAIN. I was a little nervous after reading the reviews for Happiness Nails. I had made the mistake of asking for a full set at another shop and THEY HAD TO GO. I had read that happiness nail pulls off acrylic vice soak off. Scary. When I showed Danny my nightmare, he recommended removal. Yes, he peeled them off. But he could see how nervous I was and acknowledged that. He told me jokes and talked me through the process and promised my nails would be ok. Soon after they were all off I watched as this nail Picasso went to work on my ten unfortunate little canvases. Horrible Experience!! She cut my nails til I bled...THEN still charged me full price!! I went in early this morning, at 9am. I wanted to remove a few of my acrylic nails, since I previously removed the rest prior to arriving. I planned to just remove 5 acrylic nails, trim my natural nails, then paint them with my gel polish that "I" brought with me. So I was directed to the 3rd station on the right. This employee cut my nails so short, it seemed to pinch worse and worse with each nail. By the last nail, she clipped my skin off the tip of my finger, causing me to BLEED!! I ripped my hand away and yelped in pain!! She told me to wash my hands, not even noticing what had happened. As I'm washing my hands, I noticed 2 of my fingers were bleeding!! I asked for bandaids, or paper towels. The ladies sitting next to me were watching, and were clearly disturbed by what had just happened. At this point, I am infuriated with her service, and just wanted to walk out, but I can't go into work with bare nails, so I decided to endure more torture. By the end of my session, I couldn't wait to get out of there. She tried to use one of the polishes to stop the bleeding, but it only stung more!! At the end of this nightmare, she charged me FULL PRICE!! At this point, I am absolutely LIVID!! Safe to say I will NEVER be returning!!!! Today, I officially declared the start of my birthday week. The first thing I wanted to do was get a mani/pedi. I needed that pampering after a hard week. I was too lazy to look around, so I checked out Yelp to see what was close by. Friendly Nails came up & off I went. I took my middle child with me because she was complaining about her nails. Friendly Nails is located in Kailua across from Safeway and next to Down to Earth. There are many stalls located in a parking lot behind the building. The main entrance is facing Safeway. We went in thru the side entrance that is in the corridor from the parking lot to the street. As we were heading to the main entrance, I had stopped to look at the price list posted above the nail polish display rack. As I was looking, one of the nail techs came out to talk to us. She asked us if we had questions and gave us pricing. She told us that there were open seats, and opened the door for us. Yay! My daughter only wanted gel polish for her nails. I opted for the gel mani, regular pedi. My technician was Andy and he is FABULOUS! He is friendly, funny, and really good at what he does. He offered me the options for flowers or bling, but I declined. (I'm just not into that.) I never felt rushed even as the place filled up. I definitely will be back. I don't normally leave reviews but I had a WONDERFUL experience today! I had called the day before to set up an appointment for a full set and they were prompt and easy to schedule with. Danny did my entire set + nail art in 20 MINUTES all while maintaining friendly conversation with me! I've never had acrylics put on so quickly. In regards to covid-19 they have so many precaution in place. When you arrive you wait outside for them to take your temperature. If you do not have a fever you can go right in to have your nails done. They have sanitizer at every station that you both use before they begin. They also have plastic dividers between you and your technician with a cutout at the bottom for your hands to go through. You sign 2 forms on your phone (via a QR code). One acknowledges the potential for exposure in such close contact and states that you agree you came of your own choice and won't blame the salon. The other takes detailed info on your name, contact info, DOB, appt time, what you're having done and everything else so they can easily track down clients if a positive covid-19 case does arise. The pedicure had more of a rub than massage and she barely touched my calluses. The music was so loud that I couldn't even relax. The manicure was my least favorite. I'm originally a Kailua girl, but now I live in Aiea, and I still drive all the way to the east side because it's well worth it. The staff are all really sweet and very hard workers. I get my claws done by Danny, but when it comes to pedicures I go to whoever is available, and they all do an amazing job. I've never had any bad experiences so it shocks me when I see bad reviews. The store is very clean, the staff always gives great customer service, and they play the best music ! If you don't already know who Danny is you need to look up his ig @nailsbydanny . He is so talented and such a genuine person. It's funny how someone said he has a big ego, when he doesn't act that way at all is actually down to earth. Every time I get my nails slayed by him, I get sooo many compliments. People always ask me where I get them done, and once I say Danny they immediately know who he is, no matter what part of the island I'm on. First time ever getting fake nails and have been obsessed with getting stiletto nails!! I did my IG and Yelp research and found Danny. This shop is located in Kailua across the street from Safeway. Danny is super talented with his nail art and in high demand. My appointment was at 2pm but he was backed up and offered a complementary pedicure. I had extra time to decide on my nail colors. This salon was very busy with lots of happy customers. My nails- I love! Gel, stiletto and crystals. I showed Danny some styles I liked from pinterest and IG along with the colors I liked and gave him artistic freedom on the rest. Danny "nailed" it! ^_^ Bottom line I'm very pleased with my new nails and definitely hooked. Now I just gotta learn how to type with these nails.... Always saw danny on instagram and needed to get my nails done. Never been to him and decided to text and see of he had any opens that day. Luckily someone cancelled and i got an appt with him the same day! Arrived to a clean, friendly salon and danny got started right away, hes very professional and makes sure your nails are perfect! Got a full set of acrylics, with gelish on top. He shaped them with a "coffin" shape and i asked for a roses too. He added the rhinestones and made them look beautiful. The shop itself is quite large with at least 10 spa pedicure chairs and at least 5 manicure stations. They have a pretty good selection of colors having a lot more options with sparkles or matte finish than most salons I've been to. Their prices are on average for Kailua, and I feel that they're on the lower end with a spa pedicure costing $25. All the people working there are extremely friendly, they speak English very well, and do a fantastic job on your nails. If I'm in Kailua and needing a pedicure this is the place to go! So happy with my experience here today! What better way to beat the Monday blues than with a little pampering? And this place hit the spot! I was greeted very nicely as I walked in the door and they seated me right away. I showed Sandy a picture of what I wanted and she got straight to work. She was friendly and talkative but not overly so (I'm one of those girls who doesn't want to chat the whole time I'm there, so Sandy was perfect). She was also very meticulous about getting the shape and length of the nails just right, which I absolutely LOVE. I've had my nails done so many times where they came out uneven and I have to go home and file them just to look straight! Not these! Sandy got them perfectly shaped right from the get go! Lastly, I'm a nail/cuticle biter (doh!)... Sandy noticed my cuticles were in pretty bad shape and was very careful with me. Unlike other salons where I almost always get a nick or cut, Sandy was so gentle, I came out unscathed. So any red spots you see in my picture were there BEFORE I saw her and she did an amazing job. Oh! And one more thing, she did the thickness of the acrylic JUST RIGHT! Not so thin that they feel flimsy, but not so thick they make my fingers throb and feel heavy. Nope. She got them perfectly in between. And so far, they stood up to me doing a little handy-man work (hanging mirrors) about 4 hours after so I am not worried at all that they will crack or anything! read more

Stopped by yesterday (05/19/2018) and service was not that great... Yeah given it was close to closing time but still customer service should still be upheld. While getting my gel manicure done, the nail tech switched out in the middle (which wasn't a problem). The second nail technician had forgotten to apply top coat on my right hand, which then I mentioned and she said she had.. I then went home and noticed that she hadn't.. When time came to pay, I paid with card and they mentioned that I couldn't tip on the credit card (so I went to the atm to pull out cash). I tipped $5 for a $30 mani (which isn't a bad tip), but then the nail tech asked if the $5 tip was for both nail techs (which, in my opinion, didn't make much sense.. because I only got one service and I tipped on the total of the service (am I wrong?)) read more

Went in today for a full set of gel nails. They were very nice and took me immediately without an appointment, however this is one of the worst manicures I've ever received. I asked for a pink and white ombre...there's no 'ombré' going on here. It's just the white tips which transition VERY sloppily and unevenly into pink. The technician (Sandy, I believe), was polite, but not very good. This manicure cost me $56. You can't tip with your CC, so if you go, make sure you have cash. I'll give this a week or so before I go to Kailua Nails to see if they can fix this and do a better job. read more

I came here to remove my gel manicure. To clarify and to be more specific -and to say again - to remove my gel manicure. I didn't request for anything special or any additional work. I spent an hour and some change repeatedly telling the tech that she wasn't doing well. She didn't file my nails to the shape I asked, which was round. She kept on filing the center of my nails making it more square. In addition, she never removed all of my gel polish so i had to ask for another tech to fix her job. If you want your precious time wasted with horrible service, I would say that this is the right place to go to. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
