Happy to have found a "kid-friendly" salon. I loved the atmosphere of the salon (DC vibes, great old school music,friendly and family like) and the services were A-1. I would've given 5 stars if the prices were clearly stated in the beginning. All stylists should make it a point to briefly discuss the price of the services for the day since the website doesn't seem to be inclusive of all services and not clear. There doesn't seem to be a price list posted in the salon either. Our first visit was on a Monday evening so it was not crowded at all. Glad the salon moved away from the mall after reading some older posts. Will be back! read more

To echo what several other reviewers have said - this place has horrible customer service. I called to book an appointment and received so much attitude. The receptionist did not answer any of my questions. Was very rude. And jumped in and out of conversations with the people around her while I was still talking. When I'd asked "are you talking to me" I was told "wait I'm not talking to you". Wait?! I had to repeat myself several times and was then rushed off the phone. I didn't even get to book my appointment, which was perfectly fine because I won't be going back there. The owner, his wife and my son's barber (who is no longer there) are all very friendly, helpful and accommodating. But I don't see those same standards with anyone else. I'm glad our barber left. I scheduled a 5:00 p.m. appointment for my daughter with this salon for today. I called at 4:52 to ask if my daughter arriving at 5:05 p.m. would be a problem. Since I am pregnant and this is our first time at the location. We would need time to figure out where it is. Instead of being accommodating for five minutes for new customers they asked me to reschedule and cancel my appointment. A little bit more accommodations for new clients could have gone along way. Yesterday was my first time stepping into FF salon. I am new to the state of Maryland and needed a salon for my tender headed, natural haired child. When I walked in Aliyah greeted me and showed me to my stylists station. Jordan was punctual and friendly and made my daughter smile. Ebony and Netta as well as the barbers were super friendly and made me feel right at home. I will definitely travel the 30 minutes every month. My daughter did not cry even through detangling and she has 4c hair and her hair was as neat as can be. Saturday afternoon was desperately looking for a shop for a much needed haircut for my brother (he's 12). We were at Dicks, and I knew there had to be a GOOD barbershop in Wheaton mall that could really fade. At first I walked by Friendly Faces seeking a shop that specializes. Only, when I looked in the window- the cuts being performed were EXACTLY what I was looking for! As a walk in we waited only 10 minutes (if that) on a Saturday, just after 1pm. Von was our barber and he was fantastic. Works at a great pace (not too fast not too slow- Goldilox would say juuuust right!). Great 'bedside manner' low key super star. Let me start by saying that I had called earlier in the week and reached the upstairs Friendly Faces salon and a gentleman that answered was very helpful. We had the pleasure of getting Kennie to cut our son's hair. She was so sweet and professional, as were the other staff. I brought my 3 y.o. daughter here to get her hair braided for the 1st time. I really have no complaints. Location has parking, it is geared toward kids but not overdone (or else they would want to play instead of sit!) Naelia, the stylist, was nice, patient, and made sure my daughter and I both were comfortable. She took her time at first to see how my daughter reacted. The style was cute, unique and lasted 2 weeks (and that was cuz she wouldnt sleep in a scarf lol). And the price was average. Just had her 2nd appt last Saturday and again, no complaints from her dad who took her that time. Definitely recommend. And the other stylists in there also did nice work and were very nice. Fuming with annoyance with this place. Poor customer service and obviously no communication with each other. I came in at 1pm and set up an appt at 1:30 for the same day for my son. We had been here once before and got him a haircut and it wasn't bad. Today, however when I came back for my appt early, they had me wait with my two toddlers with me for 15 min while they took a walk in client right away. When I got upset and decided to leave the lady in the front that checked me in try to claim that she thought I was waiting on a specific stylist. Um I never asked for anyone and a person with two toddlers with them just wants a dang on haircut for her kid! Next time try to communicate, there were plenty of employees around doing nothing. I absolutely love the service my daughter receives here. We live in N Arlington and it's 100% worth the drive to Wheaton. Gabbi has done my daughter's hair 3 times...our 1st visit was in January 2017. My daughter's hair is super thick & long for her age (2 years old). I've had it all done there. My daughter's first visit was for a shampoo, blow dry, trim & flat iron. Her second trip was for a shampoo, trim, 2 strand twists. The 3rd trip was for a shampoo, blow dry, partial cornrows in a ponytail and 2 strand twist. I was very pleased every time. Everyone is so pleasant at the shop too. I highly recommend a visit! I'm giving two stars based on where we were sat for my babies first haircut and the lack of skills to make it an enjoyable experience for a baby. Why would you sit a toddler ready for his first haircut right next to a screaming and crying little girl?? It made my baby very sad and he started to sympathy cry with her. Also, if you work with kids in a kid salon, you need to have a better trick than asking daddy to hold the kid's head when they get squirmy! Waste of my time and money!!! Others may have a better experience than I did, but the 2 stylist I encountered, would not make me refer anyone to this location!!! This location does not show a strong sense of COVID awareness. I sent a picture well in advance of my request for an appointment. I was told they could do the style. I came in and the person who was scheduled to do my hair could not be there. The young lady who did my hair made my style look NOTHING like what I requested. Was the style "ok", yes, was it what I asked for, NO!! When I spoke to the Manager the next day, I sent pics of what it looked like...he apologized and asked if I would give them another try, on him. I agreed. The 2nd visit was a week later and the person who was to originally do my hair, was going to take care of me. Welllllllll, It took just about an hour of her parting and re-parting and re-parting and ask someone else for help, before she even really started braiding. I didn't even let her finish. I've been taking my daughter here for few a few months now and I HIGHLY recommend this salon. We've have nothing but good experiences. Doing hair is not my strong suit and I knew I needed a professional. Before I took my daughter the first time, I stopped by on my own, talked with the owner at length to see what the salon was all about. I asked what products they used and also was just trying to get a feel for the atmosphere. I told the owner about my daughter's temperament and what I was looking for in a stylist. They set me up with Ms. Gabi and am I am just so thankful for her! Now doing hair isn't a stressful process....lol. I've never had a bad experience - everyone in the salon is helpful and friendly. I do recommend making an appointment ahead of time - otherwise you may have to wait - but I think that's pretty standard with most popular salons. read more

Yay we found another hair cuttery place for kids! We happen to be at the Wheaton plaza mall near the play area and walked by the salon. It defiantly caught my attention. I walked in to ask for prices and availability and one of the barbers w/ a cool hair cut helped me. The prices are reasonable, we paid $15-20 bucks for a regular hair cut, no shape up or anything like that. The salon/spa is pretty big and I love the concept. If I had a little girl I would be boosted!!! They have a hair washing station, manicure and pedicure station, and the chairs to get your hair cut. Mrs. Karen did my sons hair, she was so nice and patient. She did exactly was we asked for. I began taking my daughter here back in the Fall and the stylist she had did good work but always ran super behind. The final straw was her birthday. Appointment was at 6, not seen until like 8pm and didnt finish until after 11pm! For a 4 year old!? Unacceptable. No discount or anything was even offered. We went the entire summer without going back and today, with a different stylist we had a completely different experience! Gabbi is timely and professional. She even had the receptionist call us in the morning to let us know she would be late and offered for us to come an hour later which was fine as opposed to waiting there for an additional hour! She shampooed, blow dried and cornrowed my daughter's hair in less than 2 hours. Now thats what I call superior, quality service! Not only will my daughter be going back but I even made myself an appointment! I'm chopping a star off because there is NEVER anywhere to sit. In a kid salon parents need to be front and center or at least nearby especially with smaller kids. They shouldn't be "banned" to a waiting area out of the sight of their children. Love love love!!!!! We go to Sharelle who does my 4 year olds hair. She is EXCELLENT!!!!! Very good with kids and my dtr loves her. The salon is very kid/family friendly which is a huge plus. They have kids movies that can play on the tv and its bright in there and a completely friendly atmosphere. We won't be going anywhere else for braids. It's a little pricey but the braids last between 3 and 4 weeks. YOU MUST GO!!!! read more

What can i say, I loved this place. I took my daughter Diamond there today for the first time and the staff there was amazing, friendly, funny, talkative and patient. Mike is great with the kids and making them feel good regardless of how they act, Ciara came in on her day off to do my hair and did my daughters nails about a million times without complaining (my daughter kept messing them up) Greg is so cool, we were talking as if we already knew eachother. I can't remember the name of the female that did my daughters hair (she had red hair)but she was amazing, the hair style was awesome even though my daughter wouldn't stay still for more than a minute. They closed at 8:00pm i believe but we left at 10:00pm (entire mall was closed down) and they were still open making sure the customers left happy. Reasonable prices as well. read more

I loved coming to this salon as it has a kid friendly atmosphere and the stylists are greatbut as of today I would no longer patronize this business. Apparently there is a new "drop off policy" that I was unaware of. Because there is limited seating parents/customers can no longer wait in the salon but will have to "drop off" their children and then wait outside until they are done. Firstly my daughter is only 4 year olds she is not a grown adult who can be left alone without a parent presence. This just not sit well me at all. How can you conduct business and not have a waiting area. There are only two chairs in the front and that's it. I haven't had a problem before siting and waiting but now they have this ridiculous policy that they didn't even give the courteous of sending out a newsletter, an email or a text informing their clients. I was unaware of this until after my daughter's hair was washed and blowed dried and she was siting in the stylist chair. Kudos to the stylists for their great work but this is bad business on management's part. read more

I have to say that I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED with my hairstyle especially after the young lady that did it assured me she knew what she was doing. I made an appointment at this salon last Friday to get a weave installment done, I stressed how I wanted full hair hence the reason why I purchased three packs. The stylist went to the beauty supply with me and was nice enough to give me some assistance choosing the hair that best suits me. Fast forward she gave me NOTHING I asked for my hair was thin to the touch, when I got home it was bumpy not laying flat also my tracks started to slip out. Today is Tuesday three days later and I've already lost two tracks and the hair installed at the very nape of my hair is slipping out as well. I called this establishment and left SEVERAL messages for the owner to compensate me for this in some way. I paid $75 plus tip for a SLOPPY job. She never returned my call and when I was given her personal cell number by her manager she forward my calls. The one star was for the young lady that did my hair even though she did not install my weave to perfection she was extremely polite. My advice to her is practice makes perfect but that does not mean I'm willing to give away $75. I WOULD NOT BE RETURNING and this is a BAD review based on owners unprofessional attitude toward returning a call to a unsatisfied customer. read more

I really want to give this place five stars based on their haircuts and customer service, but there are some things that drive me crazy about coming here that keep me from giving it a resounding thumbs-up. First, let me say that the staff are very friendly and always cut my children's hair to perfection. Both are boys and I think the guys here spend more time on their hair than my stylist spends on mine. They always leave looking great and for $15, I'm always pleased. We are always greeted quickly and with a smile so I'd say service is their strong suit. Now, for the things that make me cringe when I enter the salon. It is always a mad house! I know, it's a salon for kids, but it's more the atmosphere and cramped quarters. The check-in system leaves something to be desired and seems very disorganized. I got skipped once because there was some confusion. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but given the time and attention that they provide to each haircut, it left us waiting for awhile. Waiting is no fun in here because there are only about three seats and they are always taken. We had to stand in the doorway while we waited which was not ideal...I was afraid to leave for fear I'd get skipped again. It also drives me crazy that they need to do a serious clean-up in here! If you are lucky enough to get a seat, take a look around and see how much hair and dirt has collected in the nooks and crannies. It's quite horrifying. If they had a bigger space with more seating, a better check-in system, and maybe did a little cleaning, I'd give them five stars. If you can overlook the negatives, these professionals do great hair. I'll keep taking my kids here because I love the way they look when we leave. read more

I will never again bring my child to this unprofessional salon! This place lacks basic customer service. I tired so many times to give them a chance hoping they would redeem themselves, however they proved me wrong every single time. On every single occasion I brought my child here I been called the day of an appointment or the day before, if they feeling like they need to keep my money coming to say they have a conflict with the scheduling. Every single time I've accommodated the request to come at different times allowed other stylist I didn't book with to do my child's hair, which in itself is unacceptable. You don't just let anyone touch your child's hair. This time I show up for the appointment that they had already called the night before to say they had a scheduling conflict can I come later. I show up at the later time I check in they then say the stylist is running behind again ok fine, how far behind?!?! But then they go on to say my appointment was moved to someone else, I never even booked with this stylist! I asked why wasn't I called before my appointment to ask if this was okay, or give me the option to reschedule. I never ever seen this stylist in the salon. Oh not to mention the stylist I was moved to was still about and hour or more finishing someone else hair! I walked out this is last time they will every do that to my child. My child is a toddler with a very short attention span not to mention it's still COVID-19 having a child to sit for hours In a mask waiting to get her hair done unacceptable! This place is terrible. I took my 18 month there this evening for a "kid's first haircut" package, except there was nothing kid friendly about it. No race car chair, no toys, no kindness from the staff....nothing. There wasn't even a lap buckle on the chair which was very big. I had to kneel on the floor getting hair all over me to hold my son in the chair while desperately trying to entertain him with my keys and phone. The barber didn't even ask my son's name, nor did he talk to us. Then when I told the cashier we weren't happy, she ARGUED with me about how everything was satisfactory. Don't go to this place if you don't have to. Long wait, unorganized, and not that catered to small kids. I brought my 2.5 yr old son here, as opposed to my normal barbershop, for his first haircut bc I had no clue how he would react. I was excited to find a barbershop that specialized in African American hair while including amenities geared towards children. I scheduled an appointment online for 12pm and received a confirmation text. When I got there not only did I find that this place doesn't specialize in toddlers (they had one dedicated kids barbers that I could tell. The rest of the customers were teens/adults) but they did not have my 12pm appt scheduled. They asked if I could come back at 2pm to which I initially thought to refuse but realizing I didn't want to go through this headache again I agreed. The barber was very good which is the only reason they're getting 2 stars instead of 1. Also it was $30 for my sons haircut ($10 more than what I get charged for my own hair). As a result I decided to take my son to my own barber going forward. His haircut has been just as good and only $10. read more

What the hell???!! I've been getting my hair braided and weaved uo since I was 15 it has never taken more than an hour to braid cornrolls!!!! On top of that they charged a total of $81 for each. I was ripped off and lost 3-4 hours of my time for shitty service and stylist who can't even do their job right. P.S. I did not tip them, from what I experienced they did not deserve a tip. Started taking my daughter to this salon in November 2016. I came across the Yelp reviews which made me give this place a try. This Black-owned business is very professional & diverse as it it a unisex salon...I've seen customers (children & adults) of all shades get their hair done here (black, white, Latino). My daughter's stylist is very professional and educated in the world of natural hair care. For example, the edges of my daughter's hairline was receding from her hair being cornrowed too tight. The hairstylist suggested ways for her hair to grow back while at home. There are few spots in Montgomery County that cater to natural hair, so I'm glad that I don't need to travel to D.C. or PG County to get her hair done. Even if our hair stylist is busy with another customer, you can still be accommodated with another available stylist. No issues here at this salon; very happy that we found this gem! read more
