Place: This place is probably the only karaoke place I know in the area. You don't have reserve but sometimes it gets pretty busy. For those don't know how this works you can go with a group of your friends like 10-15 people and you get a private room where you get mics and have an hour to sing. Service: The service is ok. The owner is doing his job and he is strict with the hours so make sure you leave within the hour and just have one person pay for the group and venmo later. Experience: From my memory it was easier finding the songs but now it is kinda hard and they don't have updated songs. You can bring your own drinks so that is fun! Audience: Solo Trip [ ] 21+ [ ] Family Friendly [ ] Friends [X] Date Spot [ ] Recommendations/tips: I would recommend this place for the vibe read more

Just went back over the weekend. I still hold by my original review: what matters most is WHO you bring with you. With that said, I had an excellent group and had a fantastic time. Between the 8 of us, we were singing songs in 6 different languages, stayed for 5 hours, and due to Friends' generous room rates, didn't break the bank for the sake of fun. Well done, I say! read more

Went here for the first time with friends last night. "Sang" till 3 in the morning. Downsides: They don't serve alcohol here! We had to run around the corner to Champions. In retrospect, this probably saved us money, but having to leave while you're trying to belt out boys 2 men is a downer. The non-Korean music selection is also fairly limited. There were several times we looked for a popular/familiar song to no avail. It's also surprisingly expensive. We were there for about 2 hours and the bill came to $52! What the heck did we do in there for $52?!?!? Upsides: The room was decent and the equipment worked well. I've been to too many places where the mics or the video controller was pretty beat up. Also, they have a fun feature that scores your singing on each song. I'm proud to say that we stayed in the 90s all night long! They also let us stay past closing. Sign on the door said 2am, but we were there for an hour after and nobody came and kicked us out. Probably cause they didn't mind charging an arm and a leg for being there. Did I have a lot of fun? Yes, but that was more a function of who I was with read more

So I didn't have the greatest experience, but I'm pretty sure that's just because karaoke might not be for me. I do want to separate that from my review of Friend's, though, but still, the place is not that great. The rooms are pretty clean, and there are quite a few of them (maybe 9 or 10?). We had about 11 people, and it didn't feel too crowded in one of the big rooms on the top floor. We were able to get all the songs (Chinese, English, and Korean) that we were looking for, so the song selection wasn't a problem for us. However, the controls are another story. There are no English labels on the remote at all, nor on the screen. If we hadn't had someone who could read Korean, there would be no way we could figure out how to use anything. This seems like a complete disregard for customers and really detracts from the experience a lot. The microphones are pretty loud, and there is quite a bit of reverb, especially if you hold it up close to your mouth. Tambourines are a nice addition -- anything to drown out the sound of my terrible singing is good. Friend's is also bring your own everything -- drinks and food. This isn't a huge deal, but it would be more convenient if they had some options. The pricing is also more than I would like. Prices are charged per hour based on your group size. For a group of 11-15, it was $5 per person per hour. The hour goes by pretty fast, so I wasn't as happy with the price as I thought I would be. The most cost effective plan might be 10 people, which is $40. In the end, Friend's is in a convenient location and it provides a clean place for karaoke. However, seeing as though they're just providing a room and microphones, I don't see why it's any different than hooking up YouTube to a monitor and jamming out on your own for free. At least that's what I plan on doing from now on. read more

Sitting on top of University Cafe, the owners decided to convert their top floor into a karaoke venue aka noraebang, with the literal Korean translation meaning 'singing room'. (Lame, right? Werdddd) If it weren't for my hatred towards NRBs, I would give this place four stars. Yet, somehow I find myself joining my fob friends and their obsessions with singing to their heart's content after a night out. For whatever your purpose is to satisfy any needs to sing, whether its to alleviate any fob impulses or to relieve stress, Friends Karaoke is a step above its alternative competition in Blue Karaoke. Granted, the rooms are smaller, but the legit service and the key location makes up for it. Basically, the dude who runs the place does not appear shady. Plus, you get free chips and a free DVD recording (upon request) if you even dare to watch yourself. And trust me, you will probably want to burn it afterwards. read more

I am a huuuge fan of karaoke (note-- other people probably aren't huge fans of my karaoke) Walking into this place, we almost missed it-- it is upstairs in a house right next to Ricks. We were promptly greeted and led into a karaoke room. Wow, the room smelled the the underside of Jabba the Hut's Balls, and that is the only reason why this place is getting 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, there was a large plasma screen TV, high quality sound system, tambourines, a fan, and two microphones. All of these essentials make the foundation for a great karaoke experience! I may not be a famous singer, but Friends Karaoke gives you all the necessities to feel like Beyonce in front of your friends. Brotips: Here is the Pricing Price (per hour) THUR-SAT 1-4 PEOPLE $35 5-10 PEOPLE $40 11-15 $5 PERSON PER HOUR MON-WED 1-4 PEOPLE $30 5-10 PEOPLE $35 11-15 $5 PERSON PER HOUR Also, I saw that they disinfect the rooms after each use, which is nice because the rooms do get pretty hot and sweaty half way through "Dont Stop Believing" (wear a t-shirt!!) read more

My last memorable appearance on stage occured in the late nineties. As a proud member of the North Shore Country Day School Recorder Club (and chorus) I belted out some sweet tunes to a pretty large audience on the reg. While those days are long and gone, that doesn't mean I still don't passively search for opportunities to perform. That being said, Friends karaoke is a venue right up alley. Friends is gross, smells like stale sweat and is on south university and all the karaoke songs are in Korean. But whatever you know? You gotta work with what you have as an amateur before you make it to the top. Honestly, my only serious concern with Friends lies in the restroom. So, the door does not lock or actually close firmly. As someone who appreciates using the restroom with a door that is secure and everything I found myself a little very high anxiety (READ EXTREMELY ANXIOUS) about using the facilities here. Other than my aforementioned remarks and valid concerns don't be a dingus and pass this place up. read more

One of the stranger places I've been... Still not sure if this was a karaoke place or a brothel... Bring your own booze & food. Books are hard to navigate. Not by artist and not in English... Remote was hard to use. read more

Friends karaoke is a hidden karaoke gem. Many weekends I frequent Friends after the bars close and sing my heart out until 5 am. Decent music selection, tambourines are crucial, patient and helpful staff. Perfect after party spot, rooms for 10-12, byob. see you at friends! read more

Friend Karaoke - a man holding a remote in his hand - Karaoke Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

3.5 stars Went for friend's birthday, had a great time. Room was a bit small, but created a nice intimate environment for us all. When flipping through the songbook it first appears everything is in Korean. Don't worry, there is a large blue section at back with English songs. read more

We went here for part of a bachelorette party on a Thursday night. We booked from out of town based on reviews, so we were a little worried. Luckily, we had an awesome group to sing with because we weren't too impressed with the facility based on the previous positive reviews. First impressions are important, and our first impression was a room with a sticky floor, shady couch, and non-soundproof room. The biggest turnoff was that the guy monitoring the security was smoking and that smell filled the room. He was also pretty impatient with us when we were trying to figure out the all-Korean keyboard/machine. Once we figured it out, it was pretty easy and we had an awesome time, but the positive service reviews left on here just didn't add up. They should have a one-sheeter with simple instructions. Another con was that in the songbook, there were indeed a lot of songs in English, but they were listed alphabetically by song title, not by artist. That made finding songs difficult at first. Pros: BYOB, lack of service = lots of freedom, no interruptions, nice sound systems, goofy music videos. There were also a lot of people there on a Thursday night, so they're pretty popular. If Friends Karaoke upped their service and continued their remodeling, we would come here again with the same group of people. If it had been my own bachelorette party, and I was able to check out the facility beforehand, I would have chosen a different karaoke venue, no doubt. read more

They have a pretty high minimum credit card charge. Song selection is just okay. BYOB -- they didn't mind. Prices are all right. It's kind of the only place around. read more

Better rates than Blue Karaoke. Convenience to campus. BYOB. This place has a lot going for it! Went here for a birthday bash recently and it was definitely memorable fun. But please, for the love of god, invest in some room ventilation!! Turn the air-conditioning on because, despite being drafty outside in the streets of Ann Arbor, this place steams up like a wet sauna! Nothing sexy about running make-up and sweaty underarms when you're belting out Rihanna, seriously. Or make sure you wear a tank top underneath all of your clothes so you can do your fave 90s jams some justice! Also, I wish they made the controllers easier to work. These things could be more user friendly. It's almost as if there needs to be at least one designated song-inputter of the group, not a fun job, and this is presuming that someone in your party is likely not drinking. I can read Korean, but dang, that remote is still Greek to me! Also, I'm really picky about song book albums. I think there should always be an album by ARTIST, not by SONG. I always think it's easier to find songs to sing when the book is organized by artist and band, like, hey, let's do 80s Madonna or a couple of Aerosmith songs. Gripes said, I would definitely return for another party here or when I need to just belt the stress out! read more

there was that one time. A late summer night. The air was sultry and the stars are shinning and I was ready to sing. I came to friend alone, ready to bust out my solo audition for chinese idol. This was my moment. I've been training for years. My life. I was ready. The song begin, the drums best, the riffs rung and i sung. I sung my heart out. With you read more

Good song selection and reasonably priced. We had a great time singing here. It does get hot in the small room with all the lights and stereo system, so wear light clothing! read more

The guy charged us 10 dollars for staying an extra 8 minutes, controls didn't work well and walls were ripping off room. :(

The owner's a really nice guy. However, the sound system... or whatever you call it, is pretty bad. What I mean is, you can barely hear yourself singing. I gotta resort to screaming or covering one of my ears to hear myself. Adjusting the volume/echo on the karaoke system doesn't do much. If you're just looking to have a fun night with friends, this place will do, I guess. A little less expensive than Blue Karaoke as well. read more

Quirky little place, but overall had a fun time. They had a decent selection of music both Korean and American. Our group enjoyed the fact it was BYOB. Be sure to bring a big group so it doesn't end up being so expensive! read more
