The food is usually delicious. Probably has great cooks. Unfortunately, the owners aren't cordial. I have eaten there twice. Never see any African American personnel on the floor interacting with customers. The white personnel do acknowledge white customers. I'm not planning to eat there again. Will not send my friends and family there either. I was looking forward to experiencing great appreciative staff here in this restaurant. This didn't happen. I'm not a big buffet person, but I enjoyed dinner here this evening. Usually at buffets, the food is mediocre and cold, but not here at fried tomato buffet! Everything was hot and fresh and well seasoned! I had fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, green beans, yams, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and pickled beets. Went with some friends on Sunday for brunch (and boy was it PACKED). Food was actually really flavorful and cooked well. We had to try the Fried Tomatoes of course, and they were DELICIOUS. I think they're fried using chicken batter so it was savory and delicious. The ambiance is your typical buffet style spot. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes were delicious. The fried chicken was delicious; however, the breasts were slightly overcooked and dry. I did try the slaw. It was too sweet. I like real Southern slaw, with mayo -- not miracle whip or sugar. It was finely shredded perfectly, though. That's all I tried, but I will be back. Salad bar looked good. The staff were very nice. Well, well, well....I had no idea what I would find here at Fried Tomato Buffet until I took a sneak peak of their online menu. Boy oh boy!!!! If you leave here hungry then clearly you're vegan. I would have never known about this little gem of a restaurant unless I had taken a road trip with a bus tour group where we stopped here to have lunch on the way to Atlanta. I could not believe how much food this place had on its buffet. It was jaw dropping. I had the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, rutabagas, Mac n cheese, dressing, greens, green beans, potato salad, yellow rice, stewed meat, and probably about five more items I cannot remember right now. But, what I do remember is the taste. All of it was flavored well. The fried chicken was fried hard and crispy which is my favorite way to eat fried food. The buffet is small, but the food is pretty good and well seasoned. I believe the price was about $11 per adult and well worth it for the options provided. They have a salad bar where you can make your own with all your favorite toppings. The dessert bar has a variety of fruit and desserts. The main bar has a few meats and soul food sides. My favorite items were the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, fried green tomatoes and candied yams. My son and I LOVED the buttermilk pie! The peach cobbler looked pretty good, but it was a little lacking in taste. I did not care for the country fried steak (it was a little tough). I came here on a Sunday to ensure I can try their best dishes. You have to be from (jawja) to understand this type of cuisine. There's always debate in Atlanta over "soul food" and who is the best. I'm a true southern belle and there is a huge difference between soul food, and country cooking. This here is country cooking. You gotta come from nothing or barely something to understand the simplicity. This definitely reminds me of the food I grew up on every Sunday as a child. Granny used what she had to make something out of nothing but it was always made with love. The simple meatloaf with ketchup, dressing with real turkey pieces, banana pudding, fried green tomato's with fried chicken batter, bbq chicken just barbecue sauce and love. None of the food is overly seasoned which is why it just hit home so much granny never used much seasoning. The wait was about 20 minutes long. It was very crowded but started to slow down once the church crowd left. In addition to good food the crowd started singing gospel! I have visited the buffet 3x in the past month. Once myself, once with my wife, and then with a friend. All different days of the week. Each day they serve some things different. You pay for your meal in advance, and there is no way to leave a tip on the receipt. The cashier asks you if you would like cash back when you first go in and pay for a tip. If you are using a credit card, be aware some companies charge insane amounts of interest or fees for getting out cash off a credit card. Debit cards do not do this. The foods are mainly American traditional and southern foods. Examples are collard greens, loose corn, steamed cabbage, flat green beans, yams, fried/roasted chicken, spaghetti, mashed potatoes with skins... Each time I have went, the buffet line always had the 1 or 2 disposable gloves in a state of empty. The carpet and floor each time had food on it not being picked up in multiple places. The carpet looks like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. On one occasion the male table cleaner simply cleared the dishes. Took a wet rag and wiped everything on the table, onto the floor. Didn't spray to sterilize. He did this at a couple tables. Some of it going onto the seats and being left. . Once seated your waitresses ask you what you would like to drink. Coke products are served. The food for the most part is pretty good. The chicken breast on all 3 visits for all 3 styles has been overcooked and dry. The thighs and drumsticks were good. The breaded fish was overcooked also each time. Several of the desserts on each visit were empty and not being refilled. The price is fair for including a drink. My issue is the cleanliness mainly. If the areas observable to the customers are being neglected, and not properly cleaned, what are they doing in the kitchen and drink area... While I like the variety of food served and the price, I will not be back due to the cleanliness issue. read more

I ate the cornbread but apparently, it had been sitting out too long because when I sat there for a few minutes I threw it up directly on the plate and then I tasted a sour flavor in my mouth. I knew at that point I would never be back again. I was completely embarrassed but nothing got on my clothes. We had to wait a while to be seated, but I guess it wasn't that bad because it does say that it's busiest on Sundays. We went on a Sunday. The reason why I gave it a 3 stars is because of the food. The service was very good. The waitress we had had a lot of people to take care of and I don't think she missed a beat. I really appreciate her. The buffet had meats, but they should offer something more than just chicken. The size were good, but they also need to do better with the dessert.
