Notes: Daily Happy Hour from 2-5 PM, including weekdays, where slices are a buck cheaper. I was at this spot a couple of weeks ago for a slice as a snack after a long walk, having passed by this place a number of times but not being hungry. It's small, and the people inside were friendly. It happened to be happy hour, so all the slices were a dollar off, but judging by the quality of the one slice I had, I would pay full price. I went with the Detroit Pepperoni, which was $5, but is normally $6. The base is their Red Top, a mixture of brick cheddar and mozzarella with warm marinara, with cup pepperoni on top. On top, they added some fresh basil and shaved parm, like a lot of other modern spots do, after it was heated in the oven. The crust, in particular, was excellent as it was very crunchy, but it still had a wonderful little bit of chew. The tomato sauce was nice and bright, with larger pieces of tomato compared to the typical spot, which made it a bit messy, but I didn't mind. The pepperoni had a good crisp with a hint of spiciness. Overall, the only complaint I could make is that it was perhaps a little bit salty, but that's probably just because the pepperoni was on there also. I have had Detroit-style pizza a handful of times, but this was by far the best I've had. I would go back and get other slices or try a classic slice. read more

Frico has quickly ascended to my favorite/go-to pizza spot here in the area -- while they're known for their Detroit slices (honeycup & red are pretty good), I actually like their plain NY slice and think it's probably underrated. read more

Really delicious Detroit slice on the UES. I went with the Vodkaroni. I love vodka sauce and pepperoni. Of course I love the crispy cup n char peps. Extremely light dough. Best frico ever. The guy was taking the orders, doing the register, answering the phone, and making the pizza seemingly by himself. Pizza rock star. He deserves all those awards on the wall. read more

Damn good detroit slice. The red top was amazing, with a really nice-tasting warm red sauce. The sauce had a nice bit of garlic flavor, which I loved. The crispy cheddar crust edges were also something I really enjoyed. Another pizza I had was a New York style slice that had soppressata, jalapeños, and ricotta, and a basil leaf that blew me away. I forgot the name of that one. Overall very solid spot with a friendly staff. read more

Overall 3.5. Got the square pizzas Honey cup 3.5 Vodka 3.5 I was expecting an explosion of flavors but that didn't happen. I think I should have gotten at least one NY slice read more

Frico on 2nd - Vodka on left. Honey cup on right - Pizza Near Me - New York, New York

With so many pizza places in the city, it's hard to stand out. However, this new hole-in-the-wall Detroit-style pizzeria offers options that are both delicious and original. I got their Fig Around & Find Out (roasted fig, prosciutto crudo, burrata and orange infused olive oil) and loved every single bite. With all the pizza I've had in my life, this was my first of this type. Crunchy crust, airy dough, fresh and flavorful ingredients of high quality. You will not regret paying a visit! A big shout out to Jake, who helped us select our square and told us everything about the pizza, the award-winning employees and the memorabilia on display. Thank you, Jake! read more

THESE ARE THE BEST CHICKEN WINGS I HAVE EVER HAD! I've lived on the Upper East Side for 10 years and I've been searching for the best Sunday wing. These wings fall off the bone, with a crispy outer texture and unbelievable flavor. Frico is the man! read more

I've been wanting to eat here since it opened & finally had a chance to visit today. It was AMAZING. Had a slice of the pistachi-dew Detroit (my favorite pizza I've ever eaten in my life), a NY cheese and garlic knots. All was excellent and staff/owner very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

Unassuming spot on 2nd - and relatively new - but excellent square pizzas. My husband and I have stopped by to pick up pizzas a few times now and have loved it each time. The Detroit square pizzas have the perfect ratio of crispy cheesy edges (the "frico" fyi) and a great focaccia like crust. We've grabbed the honey cup, burrata pesto, vodkaroni, bianco, and their specials (there's always a veggie and meat special of the week). Around $7 or so for a really filling, deliciously fresh slice. My husband's also grabbed the NY style slice of cup n char pepperoni and that was solid too. Really can't go wrong over here. It's a small space, don't expect to dine in (maybe in their outdoor space when it isn't winter) but man oh man what a good slice. +they've got a wing Wednesday for $1 wings btw read more

Little inconsistent with the typical pies but generally very good. Small place on the upper east in a great location on 2nd ave. Friendly staff. read more

Good pizza. Only tried the New York Style. They are known for their Chicago style. I prefer thinner crusts but the slices did look great. She added extra basil for me. They also added grated cheese on top. Nice touch. I need to try again before I can definitely say how good it is. read more

Delicious pizza. I would recommend and don't think you'll be disappointed. Decided to try Frico's because we wanted a simple takeout pizza dinner. Got the traditional margherita pizza and pistachio pan pizza; one NY, one Detroit. They were both excellent. To boot, service was top notch. Straight shooters when asked questions and friendly when you pick up the pizza. Thank you for a delicious meal. We'll be back! read more

Must try: Honey Cup, Sorrento, Pinocchio, and Frico! Why: Big and thick square Detroit style slices. Packed with sauce and flavors. Airy dough with crispy crust edges. Very filling. I honestly loved all four slices because each one was unique. I've had a version of Honey Cup (Cup N Char Pepperoni with Ricotta, Hot Honey, and Basil) elsewhere but this was next level here. I don't even know what all was on the Sorrento or Frico as it wasn't on the menu but was in display window. Worker recommended Pinocchio has her fav and she was spot on - Roasted Rosemary Potatoes, Crispy Pancetta, Cream Sauce, Garlic and Chives. Notes: I came on a Friday night around 6:30pm and it was packed inside with people waiting outside for their order. I maybe waited 10 mins after I ordered. Small take out pizza spot with a few bar top seating inside and 2 tables outside (it was wet and sprinkling). Worker was welcoming and helpful in providing recommendation. Workers in back were furiously working hard since they were only open 4pm-9pm. All my slices were $7 or less each. Great addition to UES with Detroit style pizza! Can't wait to come back for more. read more

I tried the plain Ole cheese slice $4.50 and it was good. Just the right amount of cheese and sauce topped with basil. There was a bit of flop unfortunately. The service was friendly and welcoming. I like how convenient the location is and the m15 bus stop is in front of it. read more

This place has always had great pizza and especially on the UES which doesn't have great options overall. Is it a little overpriced? Yes but I think they've come down on their prices a bit, but tonight I had to wait maybe an extra 5 minutes because the slices I wanted were in the oven for a new pie and they gave me an extra slice on the house. Great customer service and great ownership, definitely my main spot on the upper east side. read more

Really good gourmet pizza! I got the plain slice and also the Detroit style flavor of the week The Decatur Street. Both are great tasting. The Detroit style crust is nice and crunchy. It's filling. The plain one is flavorful, a little on the salty side, but still very tasty. They have a happy hour special for $1 off slices from 2pm-5pm daily. Also a Monday $5 off Margherita whole pie. Great way to try a few slices. read more

This spot is official they play rock songs lol. The owner seems to have done his homework on Detroit. A few pizza championships are showcased but let's get down to what you came here for. So I've tried a regular Detroit slice called a red top. It was authentic. The sauce was really good not too sweet not too salty the cheese was just right and gooey and the crust was soft and crisp at the same damn time .. definitely coming back for more read more

I've been coming here regularly since they opened and have genuinely loved the pizza, which is why my recent experience was so disappointing. I called ahead to ask about one of their Thursday sando special and was put on hold, but no one ever came back to the phone. I waited for a while, then tried calling several more times over the next couple of hours, but the phone wouldn't go through (bc it was never hung up). When I went in person and politely mentioned that I had tried calling and had been left on hold, the response was dismissive rather than apologetic. The owner laughed off the phone issue, and when I said I was a regular customer who comes in often, I was told that didn't matter. The owner then said the special (of cold meats) is not available yet and posted its availability approx 20 mins after I ordered a slice. I completely understand that small restaurants get busy and things happen. I wasn't expecting special treatment, just basic courtesy. A simple "sorry about that" would have gone a long way. The food is good, but the attitude and lack of appreciation for customers was really disappointing. It's unfortunate because I've enjoyed supporting this place, but this interaction left a bad impression. read more

Really great addition to the neighborhood! The crust is what sets this slice apart! It's perfectly crispy yet airy. The tomato sauce was slightly sweet and went well with the pizza. I got the honey cup slice and enjoyed the pairing of ricotta with the pepperoni! Would def go again read more

Freak out over Frico! Consistently one of the best New York slices I have ever had--and I've had more than my fair share. The thin crust has the perfect crunch and crispiness, while still retaining some subtle softness in the middle. The toppings are fresh, and the leaves of fresh basil are an added bonus. (Frico specializes in Detroit-style pizza, which I have not tried, because it cannot possibly beat the perfect New York slice.) Frick's owner, the "pizzaiolo", has won many awards, and with good reason. It is he and, I believe, his lovely, polite family members who man the small, clean, welcoming space. read more

I live around the corner so I've passed by a several times in the few weeks since they opened but today I went in... and now I'm wondering why I didn't go sooner. First of all, John and Layla were so friendly and sweet. We chatted while John warmed up my slice. I took it home and OMG. This pizza is next level!!! The crust has that perfect coating of crispy cheese that you always kind of hope for when you get pizza but rarely get, while the actual slice (the square Napoleon shape) is soft and pillow-y and out of this world. The taste, the texture... chef's kiss! But don't just take my word for it. There's a photo of Dave Portnoy enjoying his slice in their Florida outpost. Welcome to the neighborhood, Frico! read more

Not for me, certainly too greasy, and not the kind of style of pizza that I would normally enjoy, though I would like to find a good Detroit slice in the city Update: And an owner who can't take criticism! Don't take it personally owner! One star. read more

I came in with my friends the other day and after we ordered I overheard the older guy with a beard who I think is the owner making fun of us for what we ordered. Insanely rude as we are paying customers supporting the business. No surprise that it was almost empty in there aside from us, maybe there would be more customers if the store wasn't run by bullies. After we waited around for 10 minutes for a few slices, which were insanely overpriced at around $8 per slice, I realized that I had just wasted my money. The pizza was mediocre and lacking in flavor. Definitely won't be coming back here again and I would advise anyone thinking of trying this place to go somewhere else. So disappointed. read more

Be aware, they use bare hands to prepare foods, after check out. I went there to get a slice, and the cashier checked out with bare hands and then go back to the counter grind cheese, pick prosciutto , touch pizza with bare hands right after checked out the transaction. Witness all this, you automatically think that there are more behind the curtain. I ate half of the pizza and threw half out. I don't have appetite no more. Can you imagine, they use bare hands lock the parm and grind it right before they hand the pizza to you. It's not like it will go into the oven. read more

I just wanted to update my initial review. Frico keeps getting better. They are extremely friendly and they work so hard and it shows in the product. Pizza is still great and the best in the neighborhood, but now they've added heroes. Last night I tried the chicken parm pesto with burrata. 100% recommend. Keep up the great work. I'm glad it seems like others are enjoying it as well. read more

Solid Detroit style pizza. Had the red top and char pepperoni. I prefer Emmy Squared slightly but definitely in the rotation. Also ordered the wings and those are not good. Lacks flavor and dry. Get the pizza, avoid the wings. read more

These guys make great pizza. When I saw another pizza place was opening on this side of the block I was not expecting much. The last one was very average and closed not long ago. Frico's though is doing things right. They have both round pies and square, Sicilian style "Detroit". I've tried both and they are excellent. Good amount of sauce, crispy edges on the squares. Round pie slices have great crust and toppings as well. read more

Pinocchio slice was tasty, freshly constructed and the perfect portion size. I would take care to ensure that they don't overheat as it's going to go from crispy to overly charred in a NY minute. Four stools inside, friendly cashier, 2 tables out front, a few drinks you don't see everywhere (Manhattan Special, albeit they were sold out). Minus a star for the loudness- neighborly energy is good but when the owner is talking very loudly about Florida with a couple and doesn't think to keep it shorter so they can help new customers, it's overbearing especially with a seating area of just 100 square feet and classic rock music pounding at you. This place is sure to become the favorite pizzeria of Fox News employees in no time. Good for a one-off novelty slice on par with Cello's on St. Marks. For a cheesier and more filling everyday square slice for $4, not $7, go to Jets nearby. Or you're about a mile from Pizza Collective to the west or Mimi's to the north but if you're in the E. 60s, this beats Two Boots for sure. read more

By far, the best pizza in the area. The hot honey slice is tasty, unique and well balanced. Frico gets the native NYer seal of approval!

After a long doctors appointment we wanted to try this pizza place 2 minutes away from the hospital, but they were closed. My husband said let's try Frico! It's near the train station before we go home, I looked them up and it said "Detroit styled" which I've always wanted to try. So I said let's go! We're so glad the other Pizza shop was closed or we would've missed out on the deliciousness. Friendly staff, and the owner was soooo niceee, I love a business that makes you feel welcomed. We had the special of the week! Which was the Lemon drop, so delicious! I'm a simple person when it comes to pizza but I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try it and we were not disappointed! Crunchy, lightly sweet lemon but still savory. First time trying pesto and I'm in love! The Garlic knots were big and garlicky, 2 regular slice, 2 deep dish, and, the Bianca. Everything was delicious, but my fav will always be the Lemon drop until I try other specials. All in all I love this place already and I'll be back real soon or my husband will be back for the both of us. read more
