Unassuming spot on 2nd - and relatively new - but excellent square pizzas. My husband and I have stopped by to pick up pizzas a few times now and have loved it each time. The Detroit square pizzas have the perfect ratio of crispy cheesy edges (the "frico" fyi) and a great focaccia like crust. We've grabbed the honey cup, burrata pesto, vodkaroni, bianco, and their specials (there's always a veggie and meat special of the week). Around $7 or so for a really filling, deliciously fresh slice. My husband's also grabbed the NY style slice of cup n char pepperoni and that was solid too. Really can't go wrong over here. Got the traditional margherita pizza and pistachio pan pizza; one NY, one Detroit. They were both excellent. To boot, service was top notch. I've been coming here regularly since they opened and have genuinely loved the pizza, which is why my recent experience was so disappointing. I called ahead to ask about one of their Thursday sando special and was put on hold, but no one ever came back to the phone. I waited for a while, then tried calling several more times over the next couple of hours, but the phone wouldn't go through (bc it was never hung up). When I went in person and politely mentioned that I had tried calling and had been left on hold, the response was dismissive rather than apologetic. The owner laughed off the phone issue, and when I said I was a regular customer who comes in often, I was told that didn't matter. The owner then said the special (of cold meats) is not available yet and posted its availability approx 20 mins after I ordered a slice. I completely understand that small restaurants get busy and things happen. I wasn't expecting special treatment, just basic courtesy. A simple "sorry about that" would have gone a long way. The food is good, but the attitude and lack of appreciation for customers was really disappointing. I got their Fig Around & Find Out (roasted fig, prosciutto crudo, burrata and orange infused olive oil) and loved every single bite. I honestly loved all four slices because each one was unique. I've had a version of Honey Cup (Cup N Char Pepperoni with Ricotta, Hot Honey, and Basil) elsewhere but this was next level here. I don't even know what all was on the Sorrento or Frico as it wasn't on the menu but was in display window. Worker recommended Pinocchio has her fav and she was spot on - Roasted Rosemary Potatoes, Crispy Pancetta, Cream Sauce, Garlic and Chives. Notes: I came on a Friday night around 6:30pm and it was packed inside with people waiting outside for their order. I maybe waited 10 mins after I ordered. Small take out pizza spot with a few bar top seating inside and 2 tables outside (it was wet and sprinkling). Worker was welcoming and helpful in providing recommendation. Workers in back were furiously working hard since they were only open 4pm-9pm. All my slices were $7 or less each. Great addition to UES with Detroit style pizza! Really good gourmet pizza! I got the plain slice and also the Detroit style flavor of the week The Decatur Street. Both are great tasting. The Detroit style crust is nice and crunchy. It's filling. The plain one is flavorful, a little on the salty side, but still very tasty. They have a happy hour special for $1 off slices from 2pm-5pm daily. Also a Monday $5 off Margherita whole pie. These guys make great pizza. When I saw another pizza place was opening on this side of the block I was not expecting much. The last one was very average and closed not long ago. Frico's though is doing things right. They have both round pies and square, Sicilian style "Detroit". I've tried both and they are excellent. Good amount of sauce, crispy edges on the squares. Be aware, they use bare hands to prepare foods, after check out. I went there to get a slice, and the cashier checked out with bare hands and then go back to the counter grind cheese, pick prosciutto , touch pizza with bare hands right after checked out the transaction. Witness all this, you automatically think that there are more behind the curtain. I ate half of the pizza and threw half out. I don't have appetite no more. Can you imagine, they use bare hands lock the parm and grind it right before they hand the pizza to you. It's not like it will go into the oven. read more

I just wanted to update my initial review. Frico keeps getting better. They are extremely friendly and they work so hard and it shows in the product. Pizza is still great and the best in the neighborhood, but now they've added heroes. Last night I tried the chicken parm pesto with burrata. 100% recommend. Keep up the great work. I live around the corner so I've passed by a several times in the few weeks since they opened but today I went in... and now I'm wondering why I didn't go sooner. First of all, John and Layla were so friendly and sweet. We chatted while John warmed up my slice. I took it home and OMG. This pizza is next level!!! The crust has that perfect coating of crispy cheese that you always kind of hope for when you get pizza but rarely get, while the actual slice (the square Napoleon shape) is soft and pillow-y and out of this world. Four stools inside, friendly cashier, 2 tables out front, a few drinks you don't see everywhere (Manhattan Special, albeit they were sold out). Minus a star for the loudness- neighborly energy is good but when the owner is talking very loudly about Florida with a couple and doesn't think to keep it shorter so they can help new customers, it's overbearing especially with a seating area of just 100 square feet and classic rock music pounding at you. This place is sure to become the favorite pizzeria of Fox News employees in no time. Good for a one-off novelty slice on par with Cello's on St. Marks. For a cheesier and more filling everyday square slice for $4, not $7, go to Jets nearby. Or you're about a mile from Pizza Collective to the west or Mimi's to the north but if you're in the E. 60s, this beats Two Boots for sure. read more

After a long doctors appointment we wanted to try this pizza place 2 minutes away from the hospital, but they were closed. My husband said let's try Frico! It's near the train station before we go home, I looked them up and it said "Detroit styled" which I've always wanted to try. So I said let's go! We're so glad the other Pizza shop was closed or we would've missed out on the deliciousness. Friendly staff, and the owner was soooo niceee, I love a business that makes you feel welcomed. We had the special of the week! Which was the Lemon drop, so delicious! I'm a simple person when it comes to pizza but I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try it and we were not disappointed! Crunchy, lightly sweet lemon but still savory. First time trying pesto and I'm in love! The Garlic knots were big and garlicky, 2 regular slice, 2 deep dish, and, the Bianca. Everything was delicious, but my fav will always be the Lemon drop until I try other specials. I came in here with my husband, definitely a lot nicer than any city pizza spot we've ever seen in the city. They were friendly as soon as we walked in. I stood there for a while deciding what I wanted as there are a TON of options to choose from. They have regular slices and even Detroit style, and other food options as well! I ended up trying a couple Detroit slices, which is new to me and nothing I've ever seen over here. Well, I have to say, it was the BEST pizza I've ever had in my life. I also tried their cookie which was great as well. They do have tables and chairs you can sit at either outside or inside. And hanging on the walls are photos and trophies from having traveled all over the world from winning competitions - which I have to say it shows in the taste of their food. So, great service, food, atmosphere - 100% recommend. You won't be disappointed! read more

Both the NY and Detroit style pies are great, but they are definitely doing something special with the Detroit style pies. The people who work here are also very nice. Yelp suggestions include Centro Pizza, Delizia 73, Donna Margherita, Famous Famiglia Pizzeria, Krave Pizza, Little Italy Pizza, Mariella Pizza, Numero 28 Pizzeria, Patsy's Pizzeria, Pizza Park and York Ave Pizza. All have their charms. Joining this group last month was Frico on Second, a takeout establishment that serves Detroit-style pizza with a frico crust. While the business has only been open since May 5, 2025, they already seem to have a following. Not only is the pizza is fabulous (pictures attached), the owners and staff are incredibly nice. i respect the effort, but this just wasn't it. i could see that the owner clearly cares about the food and that a lot of thought and effort was put into each slice, but effort does not equate to yumminess. the dough was gummy, chewy, and dense. the pizza was a chore to eat and my jaw and appetite were fatigued half way through eating one slice. the flavors also didn't quite work for me. the plain, with just tomato sauce and cheese, was too salty, greasy, and monotonous. i couldn't even finish the plain. the only slice i could finish was the ricotta and honey, which helped to mask the overwhelming monotony and greasiness. it felt like, to me, that the owner made some good focaccia once and had the idea to convert that dough into detroit style pizza. cool idea, but just not a good eating experience. give me a basic sicilian slice from a decent pizzeria any day over this. i think the owner, or anyone really, should take a trip to Low Fidelity in jersey city to try really phenomenal detroit style pizza. their dough is airy and pillowy and such a textural treat. i ate 4 slices and still wanted more. all the flavor combinations i tried were so well thought out and balanced and bursting with flavor. read more

Tiny new Detroit style pizza shop. Music was really loud but when The Doors, Mountain, and Deep Purple are what's coming through the speakers I dig it. It's festive and fun. Only a few stools to sit inside with 2 small outdoor tables. Very busy but service is quick and very friendly. There's an array of slices that all looked great. I wasn't looking for any meat this particular day and noticed a Pistach-I-Dew slice. White Detroit slice with toasted pistachio(had pistachio cream slice in Sicily that was great so went with this one),mildly spicy peppadew peppers enough for a little kick, finished with ricotta, hot honey and arugula. Felt like needed something a tad salty on this slice but tasted so fresh and delish! The dough was airy yet had a good chew. Def go back to try the red sauce slices with various meat and spicy toppings. Not sure how the whole pies hold up on takeout but a lot of people were picking up so that's a good sign! I'll be back!!!
