Frey wines are produced using locally sourced Redwood Valley organic grapes (mostly from their own vineyards). No added sulfites. Their new winery is impressive. It has the latest in technology, while holding true to the Frey Wine roots. They are family owned and run, and are always ready to try new techniques to decrease their impact on the environment. Like the state of the art digester pits for winery waste. Earthworms literally recycle organic winery waste and produce valuable fertilizer for the vineyards! Frey Wines offer an excellent Wine Club, and I have had wonderful wines delivered to my home. The staff I have dealt with over the years have been professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The Frey's make great organic wines using old school dry farming techniques, and biodynamic practices - that set their wines apart from all of the rest. If you have ever had a "sulfite" headache from drinking red wine, then I recommend you give Frey wines a try - no sulfites used in their processing of the wines they cask and as such - no sulfite headaches from drinking Frey wines. OMG! This review if for the Kwaya Red Sangiovese!!! First time ordering for delivery (Never been to Frey, but will make a point of it after COVID). I am Italian, and was very impressed with first sip of this wine. Brought me back to my childhood where my grandfather made wine with his own grapes on Long Island, NY. This place is known for Sangiovese, their award-winner. I am all about Sangiovese, but my girlfriend was also just way into their blends. And we both love a couple of other varietals. We came on a Monday, and three other parties arrived in the course of our tasting, so clearly we are not the only ones. Probably the only chance you will ever have in your life to visit a biodynamic vineyard and taste the results. A couple of these other reviews are straight crazy. If you blast out negative Yelp reviews because there wasn't a big enough sign, please question why you hate your own life so much. If you look closely (sorry, the signage is lacking) there is a small swimming hole just down the road from here on the way back to the highway. read more

Very special place in the mountains. It's nestled in the oak trees, and the architecture is just breathtaking. Old rustic redwood buildings with vines crawling up them. Hard to write a review because this place is something to experience. Very friendly people, and to those of you who are not wine enthusiasts, this is the first organic winery in the U.S. And no sulfites added is an extremely rare thing in modern wine making. Don't know the family personally like the other reviews, but was less than impressed with Frey. To begin with it was hard to find. They have one small sign on the road and nothing on the actual building. Had a hippy-cult vibe. The parking was pretty bad and muddy. We visited the Redwood Valley just north of Ukiah for some wine tasting. Yes- it is out there but not as out there as you might think. We appreciated the low key atmostphere of the area. We visited Frey Vineyards and were blown away by the beauty of their vineyard and land. Frey produces organic and biodynamic wines- and is the oldest organic winery in the country. The Frey family( 10 out of 12) children run the vineyard and live on the 90 acres. The wine was tasty. I haven't had a lot of organic wines but I liked the organic Zin and biodynamic Petite Syrah. Some of the wine fell a little flat but if you want a "wine experience" this is the place to go. The grounds felt magical and our host was gracious and kind. Make sure you make an appointment before hand and if you are going to Frey- make an appointment at Oster Vineyards across the street and taste some seriously good Cab! read more

I don't understand why anyone would give Frey a bad review. Do they understand that for people like me who are Sulfite intolerant, Frey is a godsend of wineries?? Stop complaining, and start listening!!! I have a partner who loves strong bold reds, and when he tried the Merlot, he was ready to take the bottle and drink it himself. I joined the wine club last month and this is what I discussed with a friend: "I just received my first Frey delivery, and I am so amazed and pleased at the selection!! I have always purchased Frey from a few over-priced vendors in Oakland, and I was so overly excited when I opened the box!! Everything is wonderful and so yummy. I have a severe allergy to sulfites, and I thought I would never be able to drink wine again; until I found Frey." Frey focuses on organic wines, which can be an instant turn off for some people [my drinking companion thought that all of the wines tasted a bit weird] so depending on your views they may not be your glass of wine. If you like organic wines, then I would seriously recommend this place. I found several of their wines nice [the white and red table wines were good] and probably would have bought a case of the biodynamic syrah which was on sale but I have too much wine lying around. They had a nice, laid back atmoshpere which was nice when tasting their ~15 or so wines. I did enjoy tasting there and probably would have bought more if there weren't several other places in the area that I knew I was going to buy lots of wine from. read more

I love the family and their generosity. The Frey's have donated wine to many of my sons fundraisers though out the years, even after I left Ukiah. Amazing wines! Stellar 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. They have Biodynamic wines as well. And the organic is actually 100% organic. Organic grapes and no sulfites added during winemaking. I'll be gettin some cases of that. It's definitely a good price for the organic. It's pretty much the same price as regular wines. read more

I bought this at Sprouts I think as I am always searching for a reasonable table wine. This organic white table wine hit all the points for me , reasonable price, organic, NO SULFATES!!! My husband and I had a great experience at Frey Winery the last week. We were in CA on vacation and just wanted to visit some wineries. The road to the winery is very scenic and the winery has an easy going, rustic feeling to it. Lisa hosted our wine testing and was vey knowledgeable and entertaining. I love the idea of organic and biodynamic wines and they taste great too. I would greatly recommend this place and the hostess Lisa. read more

One of the extended Frey family rescued my husband and I on his way to work and gave us a ride to the winery so we could call a tow truck when we got our car stuck on the dirt part of Tomki road (a few miles past the winery -- don't worry, the winery itself is on a nice paved part of the road). I didn't get to taste the wine because it was about 6am, but the winery and surrounding grounds are lovely, and the hospitality was much appreciated. read more

We have been wine club members over the years as Frey is one of the only Detmer certified bio-dynamic wineries in the country. We find their wines to be a great value for the what we believe are the healthiest wines anywhere (probably the most enjoyable research over the years as well!) Finally, only once did we have an issue with a shipment and Frey immediately went above and beyond to take care of it. read more

My husband and I tried their white table wine and were sorely disappointed. It tasted like stinky, moist feet. Not really sure how else to explain it even though I have never tasted stinky, moist feet. I'm pretty sure that's how they would taste though. I even posted on their Facebook page that I was upset at purchasing their wine and would not buy it again. They were nice enough to respond to my post after about five days. They had asked how much I paid for the wine so they could help me out. I was sick at the time they posted and did not look for the receipt for a couple days. When I went to respond to their post, about three days later, they had taken down their response post and my original post. Nice to know they are fluffing their posts and probably their reviews on Facebook. Hopefully they can't fluff the ones on here or else people are not getting a fair evaluation of their product. Either way, I will NEVER be purchasing their wine again for two reasons - 1. It tastes like stinky, moist feet and 2. They are liars by taking down negative posts. read more
