Jose came out to look at job and gave us a very reasonable bid; however, when we asked a couple questions based on what other contractor recommended and why, he became very defensive. did not answer our questions, and basically said he knew what he was doing because he has been doing decks and laying concrete for a long time. He proceeded to walk away, and I thought he was looking at job to determine if other recommendation was necessary. After getting estimates from several different tree services over several months, I decided to go with Calwest to cut down my 100 foot liquid amber tree which was dying. I spoke to Jose on the phone and when he came out to give an estimate, we also discussed the other liquid amber which is still alive, but overgrown and just as tall. He gave me a fair price and discussed the equipment and technique they would use to cut down the tree which is just a few feet from my house. The next day, Eduardo and his crew came as planned at 7am and got right to work. Eduardo climbed the tree to carefully cut each limb and the trunk. With ra rope and pulls, they never touched the house as they carefully controlled each lime as they dropped to the ground! The 2 men on the ground were so systematic with their assistance to Eduardo, high in the tree. They chipped the branches as they were cut so there never was danger with too much debris on the ground! AWFUL EXPERIENCE. DO NOT USE THIS GUY. Upon reading the other reviews, I had the same horrible experience as so many others. Jose came out to quote us for a concrete drive ways in our community. He was late. When he did get there, he had me standing and waiting out in 103 weather for about 3 minutes while he finished a phone call in his air conditioned truck. He kept telling me we should consider other options besides what I was asking. I let him know I needed three bids, and upon hearing this, he looked at me, with an annoyed expression and said he does not compete. He asked if the other ones are licensed. I said yes. We make our decisions upon many factors including references and yelp reviews. He said you actually believe the Yelp reviews? Well, I sure do, especially seeing that others are having the same exact experience. I asked him if he actually wanted this 60k job, and he smirked its up to you. The consultation began with me standing and waiting for about 5-8 minutes while he finished a phone call. He repeatedly went on a sidebar about repairing my fence (it does need repairs) after I told him that it is being handled. He also repeatedly tried to upsell us to stamped concrete (for our garbage cans, right?) after I said I just want basic concrete. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER. Lowe's in Madera uses this Company for fence installation. Very unhappy with the finished product for my Mom. Chain Link Fence install was ok; however, the installation of the E-Z Privacy Screen was not. There is a large section that needs to be redone and looks really crummy and not installed professionally. The workers that showed up at my Mom's came not totally prepared meaning they did not have the correct amount of "zip ties" to install the privacy screen so my Son had to purchase these with his own money and upon completion of the work, the workers tried to "take" my Mom's extra leftover chain link fence with them that SHE PAID FOR!! Really? Wow...Luckily my Son caught them before they left. My Mom has called Lowes in Madera numerous times or at least more times than I can count to get this Company to return to her home in Madera Ranchos to fix or re-do the privacy screen on the section of the new fencing but to no avail, no one is helping or returning. I would think that when a Senior Citizen of the age of 84 years old would receive a full-service job and not be taken advantage of, not sure if it is because "she is a woman". Lowes has over $16,000.00 dollars of my Moms money and I would expect faultless-extraordinary work for this price. It sure would be nice if someone would return and make this right. This company was great for me back in 2018 and now in 2019! I was getting tired of wooden fences always needing repair so I convinced my neighbor to build a masonry block wall. I reached out to multiple companies but Jose was the only one that took the time to see the property and provide a great price! His crew was fantastic so much that I called them out to do the other side of my property a year later. CalWest just did my fence Nov/18. They did a great job. They were quick and got the job done as expected. However, a discount (3%) was negotiated over the phone but it was not honored at payment time. Argument for not honoring his word was that the discount was only if payment was made on cash. Unfortunately it is a downside for me doing business with people that don't honor their word. Checking their website they even advertise 10% discount to new customer I never asked. I'm sure there are other companies around that can delivery the same quality of service just check around! read more

Cal West Tree Service: Inconsiderate employees. This company was doing a job today 6/11/22 in Sanger on Edgar and the branches were falling into my yard, when i told the employee to tie the branch with a rope before cutting so it does not fall into my yard, he said nothing and continued to cut dropping even more branches into my yard. They left and did not come around to my house to pick up the trash. My son and i cleaned it up. They are lucky this time they did not damage my pool pump which is located directly under the falling tree branches. Called the company's number and received the response of "you are complaining and it might not be my company" well guess what 20 minutes after calling my door bell rings, and i'm told "im here to pick up the branches", I said what for I already did it, and he proceeds to say in spanish "they were LITTLE branches anyways" to his surprise I speak spanish and threw it back at him in spanish "it doesn't matter, your employees should be more careful when cutting trees and letting trash fall into neighbors yards and they were not little, so for your next job do it right" Like I'm going to let an INCONSIDERATE person on my property..NOPE. read more

My neighbor wanted to get the fence replaced, so I came to yelp, to find a top notch fence company. I called several places, but this one answered! Another company had a voice message, and I left them a message. They have yet to return the call. One company's voice mail was full. The 3rd, a sister answered the phone. She was full of excuses, and I just have to give a yelp review of that phone call. Anyway, back to CalWest. Jose answered, politely. We arranged for him to give an estimate, the next morning. Well, same day, a wind storm came through, and blew the fence down! Now I needed to get an estimate, for myself, and two neighbors. Good thing I called the day prior to the wind storm, as everyone would be needing the fence repairs. The day of the estimate, Jose was professional, and friendly. Right away I liked his prices. I also like the option of having steel posts. During our meeting, I discovered he also removes trees. He gave me an estimate to remove 3 palm trees, . I told Jose I would contact him soon. I just needed to get an okay from the neighbor. The neighbor okayed the price, and Jose was ready to start work, bright and early, the next morning. He sent two workers. They tore down, and replaced about 120 feet of fencing. It was all done in 1 day! Also the 3 palm trees were cut down, and the stumps ground down. I was so happy, with their work. I did notice some other things, that I wanted done, a barn style double door gate, vines growing in a fence, and I added another neighbors fencing. Jose was accommodating. Sometimes you ask a contractor, to add to the order, and they will put you off, saying they didn't plan for the extra time. Jose didn't do that. I can tell you their work is good, the crew is good, and they have my future business. They also do landscaping, and concrete work. I know I won't be looking for other contractors.
