I usually go across the street and thought I'd try going there after work. They have an ok selection but are unwelcoming.

Just had a horrible experience. I stopped in to get an apple juice and paid with an older $10 bill. Not only did the cashier/owner accuse the bill of being counterfeit - she also asked the gentleman behind me in line to check and see if he thought it was real. I have way better things to do than to con someone for a $2 apple juice. I will never shop here again. This unprofessional and discriminatory behavior will not be rewarded with my hard earned money. read more

This is a nice little grocery with high-quality produce and basics. The Jin family were great neighbors and the new owners have a hard act to follow. Eric, the new owner, was very kind to let me post a thank you card for the Jin family. He and Mr. Jin worked hard for a smooth transition. If only our election were as friendly as that. Give Eric, Su and Mr. Na a chance. I think they are good people who want to provide the things we like here in our community. If you want him to offer an item, give him a label or source and he'll try to get it. I like them and am glad that we still have Jin's around! Mr. Jin!!!!! When I lived in Washington Heights, Mr. Jin's was the only place that sold good produce, snacks that could not be found ANYWHERE else in the hood, fresher items than anywhere else, and friendly service that also could not be found anywhere else in the hood, which is part of the reason I had to move. Too many nasty attitudes up around there, and not enough decent anything. I hope things have changed. Mr. Jin's could get really crowded, especially if I stopped by on the way home from work, but since I lived a block away, I learned my lesson and could go any other time. It also cost a bit more than any other place in the hood, but with good reason, so I'd gladly fork over the extra cash. And it is always hard to beat friendly service in this most industrialized/computerized of cities. That's what can keep people coming back. read more

Perfect place to stop if you don't want to walk to one of the supermarkets, as people noted. Also 24 hours, which can be really useful. Smaller than Smile, but they carry Fresca, and their milk doesn't go bad as quickly. And the staff are totally sweet. Great ice cream selection (better than Smile), and a bunch of frozen veggie entrees, which is really useful (now, if only they'd bring back the veggie unturkey slices). I love Jin's! This was MY supermarket when I used to live in the neighborhood. I bought pretty much everything here. I don't eat a lot of meat, so, for the most part, some Applegate Farms turkey, supplemented with an occasional Fresh Direct order did the trick. Jin's is GREAT. It has EVERYTHING, with the exception of a meet department. What do you need? You'll find it at Jin's. They have a great selection of fresh produce. The produce is fairly reasonably priced. It may be a bit more than you'd get elsewhere, but it is SUPER convenient for the neighborhood. It is right at the exit from the A train. you can pick up fresh produce every evening. When the train lets out, a line will form, but it moves quickly. The business is family run. I stopped by tonight. I brought my dog to stay with a friend while I was on vacation. It felt like I had never left. I wanted to grab a bottle of water, because it's a hot, sweltering October evening. I saw they had 4 varieties of Woodchuck Hard Cider in individual bottles. (Crazy, right?). I grabbed a couple bottles of the Fall. I don't know where else you'd find that, let alone at a little place like this. They are stocked with great food. They have a nice, epicurian selection of foods. It's not something you'd expect at a place like this. The business if family run. I am ashamed that I don't know everyone's names, but, the whole family works here. When I lived in the hood, The dad worked during the days, the son in the evenings, and the mom the late night shift. They are all SUPER efficient, friendly, and keep the line moving. I really can't say enough great stuff about Jin's. If you are ever up by 181st and Fort Washington, check it out! read more

Jin's is my #2 grocery store (next to Fairway) & I only gave it four stars because I can't buy chicken or fish there. Otherwise, it is stellar! I live somewhat far from Fairway, so Jin's is where we go 9 times out of 10. Excellent produce, great selection of pretty much everything (obviously with the exception of chicken, fish, beef, etc.) They sell these fabulous Icelandic yogurts, very similar to Greek yogurt, but they come in blueberry, passion fruit, & orange/ginger. Very friendly people working there! Jin's is reliable, consistent, and I go every week, 3-5 times a week for pretty much anything. Highly recommended! Oh, and great location - right next to the A train. read more

I just moved to the area, and the first thing I fell in love with was this supermarket! Woodchuck Cider. Amy's Organic Soups (cheaper than I've seen anywhere else by $2). Veggie Burgers. The snacks offered in this place are outstanding! He has my favourite brand of...everything! Fresh produce, amazing selection, things I haven't been able to find anywhere else, and I've always gotten amazing service. Oh, and as a bonus, this is probably the only place on the block that takes credit cards, so you don't have to worry about being short on cash! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! read more

This is the place you go because it's close to your apartment late at night, really early on a weekend morning or right off the train on your way home. Jin's is TINY and requires some clever sideways crab-like navigation when there is more than one person in an aisle. A decent selection of basics, a couple of fancy items and decent produce. Nothing here is cheap and Jin's is unabashedly unapologetic about that. I shop there if I'm right there. Maybe I'll pick up some tomatoes and cream cheese after grabbing bagels next door at the 181 Bakery. I always kick myself because it's way too pricey. La Rosa on 176th and Broadway is a much better deal. The owners are nice, but why wouldn't you be when your customers are paying you over $4 for a container of Tropicana orange juice? read more

My girlfriend is vegan, and I'm 90%. Fact: The produce here is superb. It beats Whole Foods time and again. Get your potatoes, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale, shallots, etc here ... prep them the same day, and experience the abundant flavor difference truly fresh produce makes. Prices are no different from lower-end supermarkets in the area. Service is friendly. During Covid, we wish the place were huge and airy, but with some caution and care, this remains the best place in Washington Heights if what you want is fresh produce. I shopped here when it was Jin's. The produce then was excellent. I would say quite simply: It has improved. Yes, I miss Jay. Nice to get some humor and irony during your checkout. But the new family are wonderful people. Let's support them during this crisis. read more

I have an issue with food going bad. This issue drives me to open up produce that comes in plastic containers and examine its contents because I've been tricked before, looking in from the outside and thinking all is well, just to come home and the berries have been fused together by their mold. I'm tired of getting looks from store employees dressed in hideous Hawaiian shirts over my inspection though. Jin's has gotten rid of all of that for me, I have peppers that were purchased from some bs recipe I'll never be able to make from two weeks ago. Still just as fresh. Jin's never closes, the cashier (esp Jay) greets you by name and actually speaks to you while he bags. I live a bit away from Jin's and I'm moving even further but I'll still make the trek for their produce*. *The bananas haven't been right lately though and the dried cherries are pretty expensive, seven or eight dollars last I checked. read more

There are few things that you can't find at Jin's and everything is fresh. It is surprising to me that a lot of the items are as cheap as you will find anywhere in the neighborhood. Yogurt is the generally the same price as Associated for example and Jin's is WAY cleaner and more friendly. The produce is ALWAYS better than Associated and a CLEAN friendly environment. If you want ice cream, good fruit and veg, fresh milk products, cereal etc etc they have it. A prototype of what a store like this should be. read more

For a neighborhood spot, jin's is great. The whole family that owns and runs the place is very friendly and all of their food is fresh with a high turnover rate so nothing is sitting there forever. Great location for me since I like having a 24 hour place so close to both the subway and my place. Also very convenient to have a place with least 2 friendly people always there in case I have an issue on the street and can run in there. I wish they'd kick the crap out of the bums that like to loiter in front of the place though. It definitely detracts from the place. If I owned it I'd be calling the cops on those pieces of filth every day. read more

Fresh fruit and vegetables are much better quality than anyplace for miles around. They have organic salads (baby arugula, romaine, etc) and pre-cut veggies for snack or quick dinner prep. Also carry nitrite-free cold cuts, organic eggs & milk, green teas, fresh nuts of all kinds/trail mix, etc. Because it's small the stock turns over frequently, a big plus. Only downside: it's really crowded, especially in the early evening when the train brings a load of people home from work; I don't go then if there is any way to avoid it. I get too cranky and want to smack all the other nice people shopping there. But they do a great job with the space they have. read more

Stop complaining about high prices - you can save on wandering and frustration here bc it's so well edited. I love Jin's Superette, I randomly came across the store when I was waiting for my takeout order from Bangkok Heights. I was pleasantly surprised. They have a lot of things that I eat (vegetarian) and their produce is super fresh. I don't mind walking a few extra blocks for quality. The great thing is that the store is 24 hours. read more

This superette is the grocery store equivalent of a clowncar. I don't know how they do it, but they pack everything inside this tiny mart. Depending on my budget, I want my cheap options and my fancy organic options and my kimchi options, and they have it all. Just don't go right after work if you want to avoid lines, but that's easy because it's open 24 HOURS!! Plus, Jin's son and I are like this: *crosses fingers*. Definitely recommend. read more

I'd be lost without Jins. I often get home too late to trudge out to Key Food, and Jins is significantly cheaper in most aspects than Frank's Market. Although smaller than Smile Deli as many reviewers have noted, Jin's carries a wide variety of kosher products and their veggies are fresh and of excellent quality, even if the prices don't always make so much sense, they are never exorbitant- if its out of season they typically just wont stock it. Milk is consistently fresh (the bane of most bodega shopping) and the whole Jin family really cares about us, the locals. PS- they dont take AMEX. MC, Visa, and Discover are about an 8 dollar minimum. read more

They kill you on the price with kindness! This place should be called 'Roadside Ripoff'. While they have a good variety of things you can find in a bodega, this place is more expensive than a D'Agostinos. Will leave you with an example: the owner once saw me holding scan of polar ice seltzer water. He tells me it's a pretty can and asked me where I got it from. I told him Target - 12 cans for 4.99. He tells me he will buy it and look into selling each can for a $1+. True story. read more

Prices are much higher on most items than in neighborhood stores but quality is best. Very small selection of kosher food which is available mainly only in Key food on 187 St and Broadway that has a full line but also high prices. I'm a huge supporter of small businesses, and Jin's is a great example of a great corner grocer. This is the perfect spot to run in for some fresh produce.
