Fresh Prep is available in Toronto/GTA! So I was lured in by their 50% deal and paid $100 for $200 worth of credits, which seems to be open to all first time customers. If you sign up at their booth at the Autoshow they also offer some swag on sign up. Since it was free delivery for the first delivery, we decided to spend all the credit at once... now maybe we ordered way too much but we ended up splitting the order with another household. I think the best value is if you stick to 1-2 recipes and order more portions of that as I see sometimes there are specials for additional portions. However, since I want to try a variety, we ordered a few different recipes. Pros: - Love the packaging and how all the things are precut, portioned and you just dump it in the pan and cook. However, I did notice I need to spend some time reading instructions but it wasn't too hard. I've tried recipes so far. - Easy to pause your account indefinitely or skip a week on your profile settings. - You can schedule for bag and container pick up so it's a bit more sustainable than the alternative meal prep delivery services. - It's cool to try some new recipes and ingredients I wouldn't usually buy. However, I don't think the recipe cards are easy to replicate yourself afterwards because the provide you the marinades, spices and sometimes things come pre-mixed. Recipe tried: - Spicy Apricot Chicken Rice Bowl Kit - it was okay, probably not something I'll return to. It also was a bit more sweet than spicy. It's just a regular stir fry with some sweeter sauce and doesn't feel as special. - Greek Chicken & Pumpkin Soup - my favourite, I love their pumpkin soup with garlic bread. I never would've bought or cooked with orzo. So I tried something new - Bean burrito - We enjoyed this dish, it was very hearty with lots of protein. Some sauces and ingredients I tried that I normally wouldn't buy on my own. We add in our pumpkin puree soup from one of their recipes into the bean burrito. - Surf and turf - The salad was really good has this lovely dressing. Though I feel like the salad comes with a small portion since it doesn't come with carbs so more salad for 2 servings would be better. Cons The website is a bit trickier to navigate and get used to at first. The way they break it down on the subtotal, it's hard to figure out the cost per portion per recipe without breaking out a calculator. The discounts are only applied to one tallied line. Sometimes there's a promo with an additional serving, but it doesn't tally under the one recipe so you can't tell how much on average each serving is for that specific recipe is after discounts. It does seem a bit pricier than just cooking but that's not exactly what I'm comparing to... the alternative if I'm lazy to cook, is we go out to eat, which is generally more expensive. After delivery, the optimal freshness is within 4 days so it makes me cook it so I don't waste it. Delivery is on Wednesdays and Sundays. For example you need to opt in by Wednesday and select your options for Sunday delivery. Usually I like to decide the day before but I suppose with logistics of packing the ingredients, I don't think they can allow for later decisions. Overall I'll consider going back again... but perhaps 1-2 recipes a week with more portions to get a better bang for the buck. It just doesn't make sense for us to cook with a little portion of rice they give us in some of the recipes. It's just easier to cook a larger serving size one time. Nearly two years ago, my neighbor went on vacation and forgot to pause her subscription to Fresh Prep, so she emailed me, asking if I wanted to take her two meals that were being delivered that day, her gift to me. Who am I to refuse such a gift??!!! I knew nothing about meal delivery services so I had zero expectations. But, OMG was I impressed! My daughter and I cooked one of those meals together that first night and it was such a great experience for us. And the dinner was excellent. We kept saying, it was "restaurant quality". Super easy to do, with idiot-proof directions, and super fresh ingredients, all pre-measured and labelled. Quite frankly we were blown away. We cooked the second meal for dinner the following night, wondering if we just got lucky with the fabulous meal the night before. Nope, the second night's dinner was as excellent as the first, and as easy to make. We were hooked. I'm not one for indulgent spending. I am unemployed and am on a budget. But I calculated, for me, the money spent per meal at Fresh Prep is a good deal, as my dinners for 2 nights a week were arranged, I knew said meals would be healthy and well-balanced, as I'd be selecting them myself from a wide variety of options, I'd be saving a lot of time as I wouldn't have to go to a bunch of different stores to track down ingredients (some are not common. And let's be honest: who wants a lot of some esoteric spice or product that you'll never use again? I hate waste, so it appealed to me, to have just the exact right amount of ingredients needed for each recipe), and, bonus for me, this turned out to be SUCH a positive bonding experience for my adult daughter and me, choosing our weekly FP meals and cooking them together. We have been so impressed how this company minimizes waste, simply by reusing the majority of containers and ice packs. We've been so impressed with the selection of meals each week and the quality of ingredients and the straightforwardness of directions. And it's kinda become a joke, how every night we've had a FP meal, we look at each other and say "THIS one is my favorite!". lol. (I'm not kidding, they've all been excellent). Yes, the prices have increased once in the few years I've subscribed (minimally, but it does make a difference), and they've recently instituted a delivery fee ($4.99). So that stings a bit. But they have a reward program that offsets the costs a bit, and for my daughter and me, the advantages of subscribing offset the disadvantages. We stopped our subscription for a while and we really missed it. We REALLY missed it. So I re-subscribed and I haven't looked back. I have friends who've subscribed to other meal prep services and they all agree, FP is by far the best. I also must say something about their customer service: the few times I've called with an issue, they were ALL over it, immediately. That alone blew me away, too, how receptive they were and how quickly they resolved the few issues that arose. Oh, and their delivery people are the nicest, too. I wanted to support a Canadian small business, but this has been a consistently poor experience. At $15 per meal, the portion sizes are unacceptable-frequently consisting of just half a chicken breast with a few vegetable cubes, requiring me to supplement the meal myself to make it filling. Beyond the inadequate portions, I have had significant concerns with quality control. Several meals arrived looking unsealed or partially consumed, and the sauces provided are minimal. On one occasion, the gravy had a distinct mold-like taste. Despite sending multiple messages and clear photographic evidence of these issues to the company, my feedback has been ignored, and there has been zero improvement in their production standards. Fresh Prep is here in Toronto! We heard about them at the CNE and they are currently at Union for a pop-up for their new expansion into Toronto. Fresh Prep is a meal delivery service with a few options: pre-made meals, read-to-cook, and just discounted meals (waste diversion). We got their promo deal for 2 meals for $20 to try delivered direct to our address. Fresh Prep is different from all other meal delivery services currently available in Toronto by a few measures... Pros: - They have some eco options were they have the ingredients prepd in re-useable containers and cooler bags that they take back. The cooler bag, ice packs, etc. are all reused. This saves a ton of plastic when the option is available. - We got two ready-to-cook and two ready-to-eat meals, one came with the eco packing option and the other without, and you can see what a big difference that amounted to. - The return pickup has two options, either leave it out the same day you have the next delivery OR schedule it in the website. - Their website is also SUPER clear and easy to pause/select options, etc. they aren't trying to trick you. - To cancel, it is also super easy, email them and as promised, it is no questions asked, cancelled, deleted, done! - The ingredients quality is also top notched, compared against some of the others we have tried, Fresh Prep really does have the best ingredients, no leftover cuts, everything looks prepd same day. - The recipes read much more easily than others as well, but as a home cook, all meal delivery recipes feel clunky when you read them... Cons: - They are expensive... relatively speaking, but that's the cost of their mission and ingredient quality. - Their ready-to-eat meals are a bit small and also the taste seems a bit off, not sure if it is a difference in palate or something, but I'd choose the ready-to-cook instead, every time. - Sales reps seems to be new to the job, they got the offers and details of the meals mixed up when we asked. We figured it out on the website, but since it is new to Toronto, hoping they shake out the kinks. Overall, we have recommended this to other friends already. I didn't start cooking regularly until I moved to Vancouver. Part of it was a quiet protest against the assumption -- often made by male coworkers who also ate out -- that I should be packing lunch. Then I discovered Fresh Prep. I've been using Fresh Prep for nearly two years. The convenience of pre-portioned ingredients, chopped vegetables, and a far more diverse meal rotation than I'd ever plan on my own has led me to cook almost daily. It's the reason I cook. What stands out: * Delivery reliability: They've never missed a delivery or sent it to the wrong address. Unlike other services I tried (one used FedEx and delivered to my neighbor twice), Fresh Prep uses their own delivery team. * Ingredient quality & consistency: In nearly two years, they've only missed an ingredient once--and I was credited right away without needing to follow up. The ingredients are usually fresh. * Allergen transparency: I have mild nut allergies and tend to skip vegan meals as a precaution, but Fresh Prep's allergen warnings have been clear and reliable. On one occasion, they packed a different nut than originally listed -- but they texted to alert before I'd cooked the meal. * Sustainability: I appreciate the zero waste kits and the option to return plastic packaging along with the containers. The only recurring downside is that many meals lean heavily on white rice, but I work around that by subbing in other carbs. Since the government is hankering down on people leaving the house due to Covid19, I decided to try food prep delivery service once again. This time Ai chose Fresh Prep. You can choose you're delivery day, either Wednesday or Sundays and your groceries will be delivered anywhere between 12 pm and 6pm. Today was my first delivery and I received a text to say my driver is arriving soon with an interactive map to follow his progress, a second text to say it's arrived and a third one to say thank you! Wow! So I ran upstairs to pick up the groceries and brought them to the kitchen to unpack. I purchased three meals for the week for four people. If you are a UBC alumni, you get a discount so my three meals this week cost me only $92! Score! The regular price is $128 and you have the option to add other ingredients and salads as well as fresh pressed juices. What a great idea! So back to dinner, everything arrived in a cooler bag with an ice pack and all the ingredients are in a brown paper bag individually packed into plastic sealed bags, which they would normally take back to recycle. Our first meal is Chicken Tiki Masala served on a bed of quinoa and raita. It took about the 30 mins required and tasted authentic! There was even enough for one more serving, which so plan to have for my lunch tomorrow I like this meal prep because unlike Chef's Plate, you don't have to chop up anything like the onions and ginger, garlic. There is some prep but not too much. It truly makes for a much faster meal experience which people with busy schedules would appreciate. I also like the fact that they have reusable sanitized cooler bags instead of cardboard packaging. If it weren't for a pandemic, they even take your plastics and paper to recycle too! I had to pause Fresh Prep for a few months last summer. At that time, things were okay. I signed up again last week and picked a few weeks worth of deliveries. The first one since I was back was supposed to be this past Monday, Jan. 9 between 11AM and 4:30PM. When that didn't happen, I called and was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour later. If they can't make it during the time I was told, at least contact me to let me know. I refused the order because I had things to do that evening, asked for a refund and to cancel the account. When the pandemic started it had been a long time since I cooked for myself, and I decided this was a good time to start. In order to ease myself in gently, I decided to go with a food delivery service. Fresh Prep delivers all the ingredients you need, in the amount you need, and all you need to do it put it together. Most recipes take 30 mins, and are fairly easy to follow. What I liked: clear instructions, great flavours, lots of variety, ability to track the driver on an app, delivery windows that worked for me (I could not find any other meal delivery services that had drop off times that worked for me); feeling proud of cooking delicious meals for myself again. What I didn't like: carb heavy (although they sometimes have low carb options); frequent use of ingredients I don't like (cilantro (!), peppers, or potatoes); missing ingredients (twice); and late deliveries (for the last three weeks) outside of my chosen delivery window, which complicated things for me. I have cancelled my subscription for now because I am ready to fully cook my own meals, but I am open to using Fresh Prep again in the future. read more

Slightly more expensive than competitors. Recipes took longer to prepare, were much higher calorie, and yet were pretty mediocre. All vegan options and most vegetarian options are above 1000cal per serving which is a lot. There are vegan options, but only 2 per week so you get many, many servings of the same recipe (but all still packaged in 2-serving packages: SO MUCH plastic waste). Additionally, none of the vegan OR vegetarian options are part of their zero waste options, so I actually found there was 2-4x the amount of plastic waste as HelloFresh. read more

We are a couple in Calgary in our 60's. I wanted my husband to start contributing with meal prep etc once he retired. Enter Fresh Prep.... He now takes over! Or we cook together which has been really fun. We get three meals a week and yes it is the best meal service... period. I give five star to all aspects. From an easy to navigate site, to excellent selection of fantastic tasting meals, to delivery , packing , packaging and direction cards. This is hands down a great service, we have actually saved over $300 a month in groceries. I don't go grocery shopping 2-3x a week and buy food that we don't need and gets wasted. I have learned through fresh prep that less is better, and only buy ingredients I need and will use that week. The quality of the meals and the flavours are absolutely fantastic, no exaggeration! I can not recommend this service enough. The meals are always inventive, packed full of flavour and something I wouldn't normally think to cook myself. The options for meals change constantly which helps keep me on my toes. The delivery is always on time and easy. The one hangup I had was the idea of the waste a service like this creates. However, they instruct you to return the packaging for ingredients so they can safely recycle them and the paper bags the food comes in can act as your compost bag. Was a loyal customer of Freshprep for many years (since they opened) and will start by saying (when the ingredients was fresh, not forgotten and delivered), at first it was amazing. It really helped with being able to figure out what to eat during the week. But unfortunately the service, deliveries and the portion sizes got progressively worse. Ever since they switched from their in-house delivery drivers to 3rd party delivery drivers, the deliveries has been horrible. The drivers just downright lazy don't care about you or the company and just want to make a quick dollar on their delivery. Following simple (standard instructions) definitely isn't their strong point. Their in-house drivers used to be amazing and would always call you if there is an issue or delay. The last straw was when time after time our deliveries were left out infront of our building door when there are simple instructions for delivery to buzz my suite first then call if there is an issue. This is a huge issue as it is not sanitary and leave it open to theft. And quite often they were delivered outside of the delivery window and their tracking system is totally inaccurate. I've had times where my meal was delivered at 10pm at night when the delivery window was 4-6. Or they would deliver at 230pm when I was unavailable and no phone call at all. They would just drop and go. Also when getting the package the meat would be thawed out and rotten/mushy vegetables. And every other order there would be missing ingredients and would have to have to make a trip to the store to replace it. That totally defeats the purpose of paying for the convenience of this service. Like what am I paying 50 dollars a week for? The service is abysmal. Why offer a service if you can't deliver on it? The meal sizes are very small and will often leave you still hungry after. Their steaks are like the size of a small tube of toothpaste and the chicken breasts are so thin. I can't even count how many times all of this has happened but it's more often than not. And each time I call to report it, they never fix the problem and only offer a small credit off your next delivery. when there is an issue they often don't answer their phones, voicemail or emails and will reply a week later. It is next near impossible to cancel your account. I will be doing a chargeback if I get charged because they didn't reply. This has been more of a headache than its worth and ultimately will be cancelling. I recommend you save yourself the headache and go with another meal prep service that is more reliable. read more

Really enjoy the smoothies and cold pressed juices as often as I can whenever I'm waiting for the 99 on sasamat. Green goddess is incredibly refreshing and makes me feel super healthy. And the berry smoothie is great when I feel like having something a little sweeter and it's all natural sweetness too! Recently tried out one of their fresh prep meals for a small party of 4 at home - the chicken and mushroom with toasted broccoli. But I extremely shocked at how rude there customer services reps were. I have never been treated like that by a local business in my whole life, went out of there way to call me and be rude to me. Tried Fresh prep early in 2017 but had to temporarily cancel service because they did not deliver in my area - it was a hassle having to ask co-workers to accept my order at work and put in refrigerator until I arrived the next day. But now they deliver to North Delta so I signed back! First and foremost I really like the variety of dishes they offer with the choice of being able to change them before delivery date. I would say I've enjoyed 80-90% of the meals delivered. Not only were they tasty but healthy and "fresh" too. Packaging is really good with all the ingredients cut up, measured and labeled. instructions are easy to follow and I found it fun and exciting preparing the meals and eating the finished product. Some decent recipes, but quality control is lacking. I subscribed for four weeks, but there were too many issues to continue. Problems included: -Missing ingredient (twice). -A very long hair in a sealed bag of green beans. -A lime so old and dried out, I literally could not squeeze a single drop of juice from it. -A red pepper clearly well past prime, beginning to shrivel. -Late delivery (once). In fairness to Fresh Prep, I only reported one problem to them directly (a missing ingredient), for which they credited me $5. I used Fresh Prep for about 6 months and only stopped because I moved out of Vancouver. This is the third meal delivery service I had tried and it turned out to be my favorite. Why? Delivery was always consistent and on time, and there were a lot of delivery windows to choose from. They used reusable bags so I didn't have to recycle a cardboard box. There was a good variety of meals and they could all be prepped and on the table in about 30 minutes. The price was competitive. Oh, and the meals were super tasty! They mixed up my order only once in 6 month, accidentally giving us 2 of the same meal instead of a different second meal that contained shrimp. They forgot to add a main important ingredient once and I wasn't too happy about it (sorry I was Hangry!) but they dealt with my phone call in a very polite and friendly manner and gave me a credit for a further order. I have gotten this service for probably 5 months now 2-3 meals a week for 2 people. It has changed my life! Because I am vegan I order the vegan meals and my husband who is a non vegan enjoys them too because these recipes are full of flavors and just very well put together. Big fan of Fresh Prep so far! The meals actually take the time to prepare that the instructions say they will! Lots of things are already done for us, i.e. vegetables are all cut up and ready to go. Less waste than other food delivery services, since the food comes in a cooler bag, and everything is recyclable, expect the plastic, which they will take back with the cooler. I've tried a few different food delivery services similar to this one and so far Fresh Prep is the very best! Removing one star because I wish the meat meals had more vegetables in them. They were awesome making sure we got our deliveries ASAP when the BC flooding happened too. Also the pricing is so much better. To date we have been very pleased with all of our meals, super excellent quality, diversity of menu choices, excellent ingredients: local, organic, satisfying portions, fun to prepare. Service has always been timely and I like the on-line flexibility of changing delivery day or quantities. Delivery staff are courteous. We have always received what we ordered and there has been no missing ingredients. I like this company but have decided to pause my subscription for a while. The good: they deliver usually on time. The packaging is good and we've had no issues with the freshness or quality of the ingredients. The recipes are ok most of the time The main reason we paused the subscription is that the value is not really there. While the concept is good, I feel that other online stores offer as much or better value (spud.ca). We also found that a lot of their recipes were repetitive. Either they recycle the same recipes or have slightly different variations or use the same kind of ingredients. We will probably come back but I can only see us ordering recipes one or two weeks per month for two meals each week. Again, nothing majorly wrong with this company. My husband and I love this delivery service. We both like to cook, and the service makes it even better; we still get to prepare a meal together, but don't have to spend our time searching for a recipe or going shopping. We especially enjoy the dishes with fish, as they are inventive, fresh, delicious, and actually quite affordable. I don't usually go for the vegetarian ones, as I don't think there is as much value in them, but I ordered one recently and it was interesting and delicious; it actually fed my husband and I four meals instead of two, only requiring us to make a bit more rice. We like to get two meals each per week, because it still gives us the opportunity to make our favorite meals, but also gives us a new recipe to enjoy for two of the nights. I really wanted to like this company. I subscribed from Dec until mid April. In that time I've had all sorts of delivery issues, a few times they've skipped delivery until I contact them, and then all of the sudden the delivery driver is coming (well over an hour outside of my delivery slot). I've had days missing, or items missing in the bags, to even the recipe card missing. Recently they've changed delivery in my area to only 1 day in a small time slot that would have my food sitting outside for hours. The best thing about fresh prep is their quality customer service. I missed my food delivery twice in one week because I was not home and they were nice enough to refund me the credit. The food portions are generous and the recipes are creative and diverse. I would like to see more phone support and/or adding a chat option online. I have been a customer for about 4 years. In previous years, i was really happy with their service and food. But in the last couple of months almost every week / every delivery there is a key food ingredient missing. They will give you a discount for the missing food, but it's not just the money, it's the time I have to spend going on an extra shopping trip to pick up a missing ingredient. So you get a few bucks discount, but then you spend an extra hour shopping for ingredients they forgot to give you. I'm busy and I don't have time to do this every week. I've learned to check the ingredients right away b4 the cooking day, cuz once I had a guest over for dinner, was about to make the meal and found a key ingredient missing. My poor guest had to wait while I went out shopping for it. I've complained to FP a couple times now, but ingredients are still missing. As I say I really liked them before, so I really hope they get their act together on this very soon. read more

I want to like this service SO badly. The concept is great, the food is usually pretty tasty, their commitment to local products and recycling their packaging is absolutely commendable. Unfortunately, week after week we experience missing items from our delivery. Customer service is always quick to offer an apology and a credit, but there seems to be nothing done to fix the problem. For the most part, when they have meals that you might like, they're great. But after my first couple of weeks, the next few weeks have been unappetizing choices. I do enjoy the time savings from not having to pick meals, grocery shop, measure everything out, NTM trying new things. I've eaten stuff I never would have chosen on my own. I'm feeling very chef-like. My only request to them is that they put the measurements next to their ingredients so that if I want to make it again, I know how much I need. read more
