Food trucks... the next big thing sweeping South florida and I can heartily say it is about…read moretime!!!!
I have been to one other food truck event and fell in love, so when I saw my own city was having a food truck event, with a live concert no less, this saturday, I knew I had to go!
The food truck rally seems to be held once a month on 441 and Sample Road. If your drive past, you will see, hear, and smell it! In an unassuming empty lot, about 12 food trucks gather in an L-shaped formation to surround you with options of wonderful elevated fast food. There are hot dog trucks, burger trucks, snow cone trucks, cupcake trucks, Latin food trucks, taco trucks, lobster trucks, chili trucks... your imagination is the limit!
I decided to go to the lobster truck to try a lobster roll. Never had one, and I have seen photos, so I decided YES now is the time! Let me warn you, food truck food, though served out of a truck, is NOT cheap. expect to pay between 8 and 13 bucks for your meal. My lobster roll was $13 and included a baby cape cod chip bag and candied boston baked beans (how freaking cute is that?). It was a texas french toast folded and piled inside with chilled lobster claws in a creamy sauce. It was awesome! they also had lobster grilled cheese with fries, lobster quesadilla, and clam or lobster chowdah at that truck.
My fiance got a grilled chicken sandwich next door for 6 bucks.
Later on, we went to another truck to get some fries ($2), yucca bites with garlic aioli ($3) and tres leches bread pudding ($3). Slap me silly if this wasnt even better than the lobster roll! the yucca bites were so unusual... creamy and crunchy, and oh god the sauce was amazing. And the bread pudding was phenomenal!!! what a bargain too at this truck!
In the meantime, we brought folding chairs (bring these or a blanket, very very limited bench space) and plopped on the lawn to enjoy live music from a wonderul country band. it was a great community event and i felt like i was part of something...
definitely going back every month!
