We were in town and were looking for fun adventures. We called and the friendly staff helped us book our ziplining and whitewater rafting activities. Ziplining was something we always wanted to try, and weren't sure what to expect. Maddie and Riley were so helpful guiding us step by step through the 10 line course. We gained confidence after each line and by the end we felt like pros. This was a one of a kind experience that enhanced our stay in Asheville. After lunch we went on out whitewater adventure with our guide Christian. He gave clear instructions to ensure our safety while prioritizing fun. He was extremely knowledgeable and prepared us for each of the rapids. The river itself was exciting and serene at the same time. The water temperature was a lot better than expected. We got the chance to swim in it and enjoy our time. If you are in Ashville, and can drive 30 minutes to the French Board Adventures facility, you will not be disappointed. Visited Asheville on Memorial Day Weekend! Just googled rafting and this company came up,decided to call in,the lady was super nice,she explained everything so I made a reservation. Marshall is about 40 min away from Asheville so enjoy the ride(views are amazing) Got there,filled up the waivers and got assigned to a your guide. Shawn was our guide and what a delight he is. It was 5 of us and he was keeping everyone entertained during our trip. Jokes,stories the funniest moments ever,he truly is a great guide and loves his job. My four girlfriends and I had one of the best days EVER with this group. Shawn was our guide and was incredibly experienced and knowledgeable about everything from the river itself to nature and wildlife. Shawn was really clear on instructions, so he was easy to follow. He was also really funny! Due to water levels, they also sent out another guide named Corey in a kayak that followed us in case one or several of us fell out, (which never happened but almost did!) The river was REALLY HIGH due to heavy rain, which made the rapids more intense. We did the 9 mile, which due to rain had two Class IV rapids and only took us about 2 hours. It was INTENSE but the most fun we've ever had. We were laughing and smiling the entire time. A little about our group: We are five women from Orlando in our 30s. We work out but by no means athletes. We were really nervous about going due to the water levels, but once we were out there we were having the time of our lives. We plan on going to Asheville a couple of times per year, and we will definitely be back to see our friends at French Broad Adventures! read more

I cannot recommend this trip highly enough! Not only did I have the time of my life rappelling down a gorgeous 150-foot waterfall, but the guides also took us to two awesome rock slides on the way back. The guides were professional and I felt completely safe doing this activity. But here's where I was really blown away: I accidentally left a bag full of my wet clothing at the outfitter's and didn't realize it until it was well past closing time. I had to leave for home early the next day. I thought I'd never see those clothes again. But the amazing folks at French Broad Adventures actually went out of their way to mail my stuff back to me, and they didn't even charge me for the shipping! You don't see service like that anymore. My husband and I booked a mini moon in Hot Springs and we spent an entire day with FBA. First, I have to mention their merch, we bought shirts that are super comfy, as well as water shoes that were a HUGE plus on our white water adventure. Not to mention everything was priced super low I was very excited about that. We went on the White Water Rafting adventure (my first time) with Sam and had the BEST time. He was super knowledgable and very funny. We wanted to be his BFF afterwards. Shaun was also great & we enjoyed his cringe jokes. We also went zip lining with Taylor (who was an ACTUAL QUEEN) & Shooby (who was hilarious and really fun to be around). It was the longest zipline I had ever done, and my first time repelling but they made it super easy to comprehend. If I ever go back I will be seeing when these two work to make sure we get them as guides again. Love this company and can't wait to bring our family and friends here in the future. read more

Wow. I absolutely love this company and the tour. We did the 5 mile white water rafting with snack option and if I'm ever back in NC, I'm going to book as many tours with this company as I can. Our tour guide Lindsey was so informative and bright spirited. She was so down to earth and talked with us, which made me feel less nervous about my first time going white water rafting. I felt included in the whole experience and was having a blast. The area has two places to get out and swim to stretch and even a small rock cliff to jump off of. Such an amazing experience! My family and I did the Zip and Dip package (half day zip lining/ half day white water rafting) and could not have enjoyed it more. We were nervous at first but our amazing zip line guides, Mars and Sam, were quick to put us at ease. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled. We could not have asked for better coaches. The views on the French Broad were stunning and our rapids guide Eric was wonderful. He was super friendly and equally as skilled and knowledgeable. He was quick to answer any questions we had. Generally, had a great time. Beautiful scenery. Efficient check-in and logistics. Rapids weren't super intense but manageable with guide's directions and fun. Our guide, Calvin, gave clear directions and was encouraging with a sense of humor. One member of our group did get tossed from the raft near the beginning, partly because there wasn't any warning given about upcoming rock (which guides will sometimes use to help navigate river) but he another member of group pulled him back in right away. THE BEST RAFTING IN THE ASHEVILLE AREA! The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and hilarious. The guides made everyone feel comfortable before hand, and our guide in the actual raft was incredibly knowledgable. Everything was very well-coordinated, we didn't have to worry about a thing. We did a 3-4 hour rafting trip, it was myself and 2 friends, shared a raft with a couple and their daughter. There was plenty of time for hopping out the raft and swimming. There was even a cool little "cliff" where everyone jumped off. I felt very safe. Totally worth the money, and I recommend this company over the other in the area - seriously! Great white water fun and a great guide! Our guide Jim went out of his way to make sure the trip was special for my friend and me, in addition to a family of 4 who were in our raft. He was not only patient, but earnestly interested in developing the skills and confidence of the 2 teenagers in the group. We did lots of great tricks and spins, and learned about the local area, especially its nature and wildlife. Jim's excellent sense of humor and easy conversationalist style put us all at ease, and helped us paddle well together and make the most of the rapids, rocks, and journey. French Broad Adventures are just great! My family of four did a calm water rafting trip while on vacation in Asheville last week, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Sheila was super organized and took great care of us upon arrival, even helping my wife with some emergency planning since we forgot to bring shoes for her. My wife is also disabled, and Sheila was fantastic about accommodating her. The calm water trip was not very onerous at all, so it was mainly a great chance to get out and take a first try at rafting in a relaxed setting, while enjoying the great view of an historic river. Our guide was Amos, and he was an absolutely amazing guy. Super chill, very experienced and knowledgeable about the river, and most importantly he was amazing with my 6 and 8 year old kids. He had them laughing with a ton of great dad jokes, convinced my slightly water hesitant kids to go for a swim and also take turns "steering" the boat (while he silently did the real work behind them :). He also put safety first and had a lot of great ways to drive home the basic safety points with the kids. And on top of all that he's got great taste in music and movies, so it was a lot of fun hanging out with him while we took in all the sights. All around just a great, great time, and one my kids will remember for a long time. I definitely recommend French Broad Adventures, and if you can, ask for Amos as your guide! read more

We decided to come here based on the referred of our AirBnB host. We loved it. We did the 5-mile rafting experience and immediately wished we booked the longer excursion because of the experience. We could tell the river was lower than normal due to lake of rain, but the guides did a good job of hiding it and making the experience seem less than. They were positive and celebrated even the smallest of rapids as exciting, it made for a great experience. Our guide, Rocky, was truly amazing. Funny and personable, without being overbearing and obnoxious. He built a great rapport with us and made the experience fun and safe. Take this trip! Do it. It was a wonderful time whether you're a family or just group of friends. Moreover, these guys do this for fun, but they also do this for a LIVING! Take care of them. They have terrible Dad jokes (really, they're bad), but they didn't choose comedy for a career. They chose to let you and your friends/family have a blast while keeping you alive and safe. I am so glad we chose to go with French Broad instead of another company for our rafting trip! We did the 9-miler with lunch on a gorgeous July weekday. There were about 30 people who floated with us, but because of the breakups of the groups, we ended up floating with only 4 of us plus our guide, Jackie. She was so patient and fun to chat with while we rafted, and she gave us great recommendations on local breweries. The lunch they provided was no joke either - both my friend and I were expecting some type of questionable coldcut sandwiches or something along those lines since that was our previous experiences with rafting - but nope! French Broad provides you with burgers or hot dogs that they grill up, chips, cookies, and all the stuff you'd need to top your burger/dog! They offered vegetarian options too. We had the opportunity to get in the water and swim a few times as well, which helped cool us off after being in the sun! All the guides were SO nice, and you can tell they love what they do. Hands down, would recommend using French Broad. read more

We had a BLAST with our guide AJ on the French Broad for our half day with lunch whitewater rafting trip. French Broad Adventures was a great company. Very easy to check in and fill out waivers before arriving. The trip leader was really funny, cracking jokes the whole way there and back on the bus - it kept everyone laughing. AJ was an amazing guide. He was knowledgeable and we felt like we were in good hands with our 3 kids. Definitely enough whitewater to feel adventurous but also enough floating down the river to enjoy the beautiful day and scenery. read more

My wife and I did the canyoneering activity. We met the guides in Asheville's River Arts District along with two other participants. We then drove drove separately an hour south to Brevard. After hiking in one mile to the falls we did ground school, which was basically 10 minutes of training. Each guest rappelled down the waterfall. My wife and I went a second time too. At this point we were satisfied with this waterfall and expected to go find another waterfall to rappel down. Except that was it. Only one waterfall to rappel down, except we didn't know it at the time. We went to a natural rock water slide and did that a couple times. The other couple had pre existing injuries and chose not to partake. After that it was a 1/2 mile hike out and the trip was over. Overall I'd say the guides were nice. But the experience left me wanting. I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if I was the other couple who paid $125/person to rappel once. I was very disappointed to rappel twice down the same waterfall and do the rock water slide twice. Just very overpriced for what you get. read more

My family did both rafting and ziplining with French Broad, and had a great time! Everyone at French Broad was friendly, funny, and informative. This was everyone's first rafting trip and some were a bit nervous, but they do a great job at explaining things. Once we were on the water, all of our fears were put to rest. The tide was little low that day and it's too bad because I think we all were up for a challenging ride. It was still fun though. After rafting, we went ziplining. I'd been before but never like this. There were a bunch of lines that ranged from very basic to longer/higher. We all had a blast. My niece, who's 9, freaking loved it and mastered using the gloves almostly instantly. So anyone can do this! It's a bit pricey, especially when you factor in the cost of the photos they entice you into buying afterwards. But it's worth it. The photos were a great souvenir of a wonderful experience. Tip: To save a little, we didn't do the the trip that included lunch and I think we choose wisely. We brought sandwiches and snacks, which we ate right after the trip. And there's a break during the rafting trip where they provide you drinks and a snackbar. I honestly don't think I would've liked to have a hamburger or hotdog and then jump back on the water. read more

We signed up for the shorter trip and our group spanned the age spectrum from elementary, middle school, high school, parents and grandparents and it was great fun for us all. This was our first experience rafting and we will definitely do it again and sign up for the whole day excursion. We've been there about 4 years ago. We had a delightful experience. So when it was time to go again, we did not consider anyone else. FBRZ. Plus we wanted to do a Zipline. This past year FBR became FBRZ after purchasing 27 acres with beautiful views and installing 10 lines and two repels. The crew at FBRZ is fantastic group. They have fun and they make sure you have fun, but they are professionals. They are concerned about and make sure you are safe at all times. We did the 9 mile raft trip which is very scenic. It has a few class II and III and one Class IV. All very manageable for those that are new to rafting. The trip is for those that just want to enjoy the scenery and have some fun, forget about the office. Then the following day the zipline. This was a new experience for us. I was there to enjoy the zipping through the air, but I was amazed and very pleased with the focus on safety and making sure that at no time was anyone in any danger. FUN FUN FUN zipping through the air. The 2 hours was over too quickly! Will have to do this again. If you have not been on a raft or zip trip, then Mike, Tim, Ed, Marti, Colleen, and Jeff (and everyone else) are looking forward to seeing you. Leaves are just beginning to change.
